Spriggs Farm Park - Another view from the beach/launch

Spriggs Farm Park

Bottom Line: A small Anne Arundel County park with views of and a kayak/canoe launch into the…read moreMagothy River. As the name implies, once a farm, Spriggs Farm Park is now a small park bordering the Magothy River. The amenities are very simple and limited to a porta potty, one or two picnic tables and a small sandy beach with a kayak/canoe launch. The park is gated but visitors can contact the county if they would like to be able to drive in and park. Otherwise, there is some street parking. Once inside the gate it is a bumpy ride down a gravel road past the porta potty. Before too long you arrive at a place where you can turn off to park in a grassy lot. If you go to the end of the road you can unload your kayak/canoe but you will then need to move your car to the parking lot. As far as the kayak/canoe launch goes, from the drop off point it is about 150 yards to the sandy launch. There is a little bit of a steep hill down to the launch but it as been stabilized with some railroad ties for steps. For those not in search of a small boat launch the best part of the park is probably views of the river including Dobbins Island and Gibson Island. But be aware, there is very little shade at this park.

I highly recomed this place!! Take the dogs or the kids swimmin!! Could use a few more picnic…read moretables tho.

Updated review. I…read moreabsolutely love Piney Orchard Nature Trail! It's my go-to jogging destination because of how peaceful and serene it is. On any given day, you can spot a wide variety of bird species, which adds to the tranquility of the surroundings. The trails through the woods are well-maintained and offer a wonderful escape into nature. I especially enjoy the paths that lead to the fresh water ponds, where you can admire the beauty of the area while getting some exercise. If you're looking for a relaxing and scenic place to jog or simply unwind, Piney Orchard Nature Trail is the perfect spot!

I've been here to walk 4-5 times, in different seasons, and each has its charm. In the spring, you will see myriad flowers in bloom, hear the lovely song of little streams and birds trilling. Winter is very different, with frosty pine cones and leaves to photograph, and everything so still. Fall is lovely! I saw two does with their mostly grown fawns, and encountered a baby rattlesnake! That surprised me greatly as I've never seen or heard of them around here. I confess that fall is my favorite season; I love the bluest skies and the aroma of leaves. I prefer not walking on asphalt too much, so as soon as I can (where the duck loop cuts off and so does the vernal trail) I cut down to the sand/dirt path along the water. Both trails, asphalt and dirt, eventually end up at a sort of trail end. The other day when I was here, since there was no water in the stream, I crossed over to see if I could go any farther - ermmm not really. There are numerous access points from the neighborhood that borders the preserve, so lots of folks seem to walk their dogs close to home. The water was extremely low since we've had very little rain; I was surprised at how far the mud banks extended into the lake. There are NO services whatsoever! Go potty before you get out to walk!

I was in Baltimore for a visit and needed to get out for a walk. I discovered Andover Park via a…read moreGoogle Search and decided to go. Andover Park was easy to find as it's close to the airport. The park is a multi-purpose park as it has a few fields along with the BWI Trail. Parking was easy to find as well once I realized the trail parking is on the other side of the ball field parking. Once parked, I hit the BWI Trail and fell in love. As the trail itself is a little over 11 miles, I did 2 miles and turned around and headed back. The trail is spacious and easy to follow. The signs are clear and the variation of the trail varies from easy to moderate. As I walked along the trail I was captured by the sights of the airport, the horses, and the natural landscape of the greenery. As my walk came to an end, I not only felt good but I was also excited at the experience. If you're in the area and wanting a great trail to walk, run, or bike, check out Andover Park.

In general, cyclists are kind and let you know that they are passing. It's nice that you will see the occasional bench there if you just to sit and enjoy some rays or take a break. There is plenty of free parking at the entrance up by the ballfields or down a ways by the horses. I'm probably doing a disservice by only mentioning the walking trails because that's basically what I will be using. But from what I have seen the ballfields look well-kept and appear to be a fine venue In the county for recreational sports.
