The first thing I tried was the chocolate cake, which tasted and felt like it had been sitting out in the window for over a week. The icing was the only slightly soft thing about it. The next thing I tried was the baklava, and to no surprise, also tasted like it was stale. The baklava had a somewhat sweet taste to it, but it was more on the bland and mushy side. Overall, I am very disappointed that this bakery did not have freshly baked products like they advertise. 1/5 would not recommend.

I was surprised to see that they also made challah, a Jewish bread I used to buy when I lived in Halifax. I like that Blak's Bakery still has a down home family feel to the place. This bakery is owned by a nice local couple who also make spinach pies and other delicious Mediterranean foods and baked goods as well. This bakery has been open for as long as I can remember; my parents would come here every Saturday after I was dropped off at my art lessons that morning and in the afternoon, we'd have fresh pita bread for our lunch! You walk in and are immediately greeted by one of the owners, and when you turn to your right, that's where their items of goods that they sell is located. Pita bread, canned beans, olive bar, olive oils etc..all in that area. They make the pita bread fresh everyday and you can get either white or whole wheat. In the main area of the store is where their ready to eat spinach pies, fattoush salads and everything else is located. They were baking fresh spinach pies today and we had one on our way out, the spices were perfect and delicious and you can get ones with or without feta cheese. Definitely a great local place I keep coming back to often. Now, lucky for me they're right down the street from where I work, I can come and grab a bite to eat for lunch, or pick up some more pita bread when I am out. This bakery is one of my favourite places to come to in the city!

Turns out these guys supply the gluten free pizza crusts to Johnny's Piez, and they are awesome (separate review). For celiacs, this place is fabulous because it is a 100% gluten free facility so everything is good to eat. So far I've tried: the Danish (okay, not overly sweet which is nice but the pastry is too dense) the bagels (not very good - the dough is pasty and doesn't have that "bagel" flavour and texture, even when toasted) the bread crumbs (very good - they cook well and taste good). I will update this review with more info as I eat my way through their products.
