Bamford Wellness Spa - Couples Massage

Bamford Wellness Spa

I had a massage at the Bamford Wellness Spa on my recent trip to Kauai in July…read more I'll break down my rating of Bamford in more detail, separating the massage service itself from the spa amenities and experience with the rest of the staff. In terms of a massage, I'd rate it 3 stars based solely on the massage, not taking into account the price which is high due to the venue and amenities pre/post massage. I had a regular Swedish style massage which frankly felt like majority of the massages I get at higher end spas situated in luxury hotels when I travel, light to medium pressure (regardless of what I ask) that doesn't quite give the lasting relaxed feeling in my body that I get from my regular massage spot in the peninsula. The amenities and staff I'd rate a 4 out of 5 for the cozy relaxation area, cleanliness, modern and well kept locker room/shower area, and friendly service. The spa lacks a designated pool area that I tend to find in hotel spas overseas which is always a nice treat. Pros: Friendly staff, clean and modern amenities, situated in a gorgeous hotel. Cons: Nothing exceptional in terms of the massage itself, the premium paid is for the venue and amenities.

I was called 16 hours before the time of service and was told a technician was sick and they had no options at the same time for both guests. We ended up changing a service and time in order to make it work. I am definitely sympathetic to staff members being sick but thought it was interesting it was the same day as a Sephora brand trip when all influencers were posting about the spa. The spa amenities lack attention to detail. My friend was given two different sized shoes, as a non-resort guest, we could not use the pool or hot tub. There were no bags provided for wet swimwear or clothing. The showers are all rain showers which is nice but if you had a facial and are trying to avoid your face, it's very difficult. Customer service was not especially friendly or welcoming and I was disappointed with the experience for the price. Overall, I would not return or recommend.

The grounds are breathtaking including the pool & spa. We had a full kitchen & bought groceries for breakfast & lunch when we left the airport. We had a beautiful view from our condo! The resort is exceptionally quiet & peaceful even though there's a lot of people there. We loved it! Didn't have any problems! Can't wait to go back!

My husband and I stayed here for a week trip in the summer. I'm not sure how they can categorize…read morethemselves as a resort as you do have to leave the property to get basic needs such as breakfast and lunch. The two restaurants on the property open at 3pm, and are actually closed two days of the week (Wednesday and Thursday were the closed days when we were there). We had to go to the 1 Hotel Resort for breakfast and lunch, which isn't far and can be accessed through the hotels golf cart transportation system, but defeats the purpose of the resort being the destination itself. And if you plan on going anywhere, you NEED a car, there are no Ubers or Lyfts around. We felt stranded when we arrived from our flight at lunch time, starving, and learned the restaurants are closed for another 3 hours, until 3pm. It does have a coffee shop that has drinks, cold and hot homemade sandwiches and snacks for on the go, but the hours it's open depends. The flyer they hand out says it's open from 7am-4pm but we just watched them close today at 1:30pm. There's a QR code that says to scan for live hours, which tells me it doesn't follow the 7am-4pm time frame at all. How would we then know when it's open to plan for it? Thankfully we got in before they closed for a lunch snack. That said, the operating times that can be inconvenient and if you want a proper sit down meal it's not the place. I found myself confused at times, wondering who this place was for because at times I needed food or simply a place to sit, everything seemed to be closed, all the way to the detail of seating areas on a busy dinner night. It's almost as if this isn't a resort meant to be open or helpful for guests living there. Most of the staff is welcoming, I saw one review mention some animosity towards tourists which I could definitely sense at the front desk with one of the ladies, but the rest of the ladies were nice, I think it was just her. 1 Hotel definitely has better service, where they actually critically think to go above and beyond on getting you what you need, though that's expected due to the price difference. The room was clean and had what we needed, full kitchen, master bed and a separate space with a pull out bed that was useful for our family who stayed with us to help with our baby. Overall, I'd rethink calling this location a resort, it's nice but a bit misleading.

Cons: the couch mattress is horrendous (one of the worst I've ever slept on), the water in the shower only stayed hot for 2 mins max, the blender broke, the aircon was finnicky, and the kettle was too disgusting to use. Honestly, if this place just fixed a few things here and there (namely the couch bed and the shower), it would be a really cozy and enjoyable place to stay whether it be shortterm or longterm. I hope they get this sorted.

10/29/24 Spectacular & breathtaking views of the golf course ... let's start there!…read more Hubby booked this place because they have natural (propane) gas stoves, most condos have electric stoves. I love the idea of cooking with gas. It's a bit dated but it fits our needs. Yes the walls are thin but it's fairly quiet (with the exception of insects trilling in the background & the roosters crowing at odd hours--par for the course, pardon my pun). Rooms are clean & well maintained. Beds are fairly comfortable. Most importantly, the staff are extremely attentive & provide the Aloha welcome. Waking up early to walk the periphery of the golf course... priceless! Watch out for critters/bugs, almost stepped on a millipede (Hubby freaked out & I had to capture & send it back out of the greens below our balcony)-/found it crawling in the closet. It must've hitched a ride on my slippers & shoe bag. Saw plenty of gnats even with screened doors & windows. Loving our stay in Paradise. Just BREATHE, take it ALL in, enjoy! Namaste

That said, we were one of 10-15 occupied rooms when we arrived, with more staff than vacationers, but the staff was EXCELLENT and so happy to be back at work. EVERYONE was awesome, from front desk ( Rita), concierge ( Tiffany, Holly, Boon), back room (!/ ownership?) Nolani, Nancy, Michele), to Nanea ( Cass, Shiama, Chris etc), and finally activities ( the BEST Veronica, Dawn, Mina and Micah) who put up with our long talks, bingo- bracelet making- canvas bag making- Kikui lei making etc)... and truly showed the spirit of aloha. That said, evidence of extensive tree damage but with ongoing clean up and never safety issues. Still beautiful bit with maybe a bit less moa ( chickens)..boo!! But plenty of nene.. They have valet parking and parking for guest staying here. It's even great that they have a parking lot just outside the front entrance for the public access to the beach. So I was able to park and walk into the facility without paying anything. They have updated their facility and remodeled a lot of the units. The lobby area was nice and downstairs. I remember from before that all of the food and restaurants are downstairs. The pool area was really clean and that they also had redone some of that surfacing. It wasn't too crowded, which was nice and we walked around all of the different building areas. They have added a lot more units and it was very big compared to long ago. There wasn't any beach access like before I think you had to go around to the other area to enter that area to access the beach. Facility is clean and very nice. It was so much fun to reminisce and go back to the old complex.

Had a really good overall experience here…read more View/location is obviously spectacular. Room: Ocean view studio suite is nothing short of incredible. High floor with a perfect view of the bay. Open layout with a large bathroom and huge walk in closet area. Service: Was overall really impressed . Wife had an allergic reaction to something one evening. We called the front desk who unlocked the on site shop to get her allergy medication after the shop had closed for the night. All of our servers at the restaurants were very friendly, pleasant, and warm. Housekeeping was slow and did not make up our room during the few hours we were out from morning to early afternoon, but we called the service team and it was made by the time we got back from dinner. Fitness center was spacious and had plenty of equipment/machines - never felt crowded despite being busy. Restaurant food: The breakfast buffet and dinner meal we had were very good. The buffet in particular was great - so many dishes, omelet station, delicious Hawaiian coffee, etc. Main complaint is that the hotel felt quite packed (including the pool and beach area). We went during peak season so I guess this is to be expected. Tough to avoid though given this will always be a popular destination for non hotel guests as well. It's expensive for what it is, especially compared to international resort destinations at the same price level (a function of proximity to CA I guess) but overall was a worthwhile stay. 5 stars for the views and service t(hat went above and beyond).

Ever since I saw Jurassic Park and watched that little dinosaur with the popped collar spit in…read moreNewman's face, I knew I wanted to visit Kauai. Now, was that scene actually filmed there? Who knows. I was a child, and a guy who lived down the street that my mom made me call "Uncle" told me it was. I've trusted that man with absolutely zero credentials for over 30 years. Well, I finally made it to Kauai, and let me tell you... it is absolutely gorgeous. Lush. Green. Rainy. And now I also look like Newman from Seinfeld. The circle of life. I spent four nights at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, and it was... nice. Let me start with the good. My room was beautiful, the views were incredible, and the grounds are spectacular. Tropical plants everywhere, waterfalls pouring down the mountains, and postcard views in every direction. Now... the not-so-great. The food was aggressively mediocre. By day three I was fantasizing about a microwave burrito like it was a Michelin starred meal. I would've fought someone for a Cup-O-Noodles. I think it's called 1 Hotel because it's the one hotel around, and they know you've got nowhere else to eat. Unfortunately, all three restaurants seemed to have the exact same menu. Room service, The Sandbox, and the sushi restaurant all blurred together into one very expensive wagyu smashburger. The staff? Honestly, I can barely review them because I hardly interacted with anyone. Nobody bothered me, which some people probably love. The pool is beautiful... but there are nowhere near enough lounge chairs. Every morning it looked like the midwest trophy wives stormed the pool deck at 6:00 a.m. to reserve every chair with towels. If you want to sit within eyesight of the water, you're going to need an alarm clock and the competitive spirit of a suburban mother on vacation. Which brings me to... the kids. Look, if you have kids, that's wonderful. They're just not for me. Splashing. Screaming. Running. Falling. Crying. Parents yelling at their kids. Parents yelling at other people's kids. Kids somehow yelling at adults. It was like spending the afternoon inside a Dave & Buster's that happened to overlook the Pacific Ocean. If you're looking for a quiet couples getaway, I'd probably avoid summer break. There is an adults-only pool, but it's pretty small and mostly occupied by guys taking "business calls" while crushing Michelob Ultras. There's also a tiny beach area that's... ehhhhh. Now the spa? That's where this place shines. The second you walk in, it smells incredible. The kind of smell that immediately convinces your brain you've become a much healthier, more emotionally stable person. I got one of the best massages I've ever had from an amazing therapist who somehow found muscles I didn't even know existed and negotiated a peace treaty with all of them. I walked out feeling completely relaxed, refreshed, and significantly less judgmental about everything else. I'd absolutely go back for another massage, and next time I'd definitely book a facial too. My biggest surprise was the cleanliness... or lack of it. For a luxury resort, it never quite felt polished. Dead flies sat on windowsills around the property. The carpets always looked a little grimy. There was a half-finished iced coffee sitting outside my elevator that stayed there for a day and a half. None of it was a huge deal individually, but after a while you start noticing all the little things. Overall, I had an amazing trip because Kauai itself is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I stay at 1 Hotel again? Probably not. For what they're charging, I expected luxury. Instead, it felt like I paid luxury prices for a really nice hotel that still needed someone to walk around with a rag and a trash bag. If I'm spending that kind of money again, I'd probably book the Four Seasons.
