Han has a new home, still on 32nd St. Located in the old Hickory Smoked meat and BBQ shop. We are glad they moved. The old place was too small and sometimes we came in and left because of a lack of seating. The decor is simple and trendy like I'd find in San Francisco or LA in the business district. Not overdone and has lots of seating. Han the man has hired more staff and they are learning the menu and the new items. We liked everything we tried including some new noodle bowls. To be honest, I miss the other sushi place on 32nd that closed during the lockdowns. Hans has always been our second choice between the thin menu and the small dining room. Now with the expanded menu and space, we are more likely to come more often. Still, I hope they can bring their prices down, lunch at Han's is very expensive for Joplin. I think for the cost the quality should be better, it still some of the best sushi in town. And try the new bowls, I'll be back for those, very tasty! read more

I'm between a rock and a hard place with this spot. Nice people, service, but to get my food took forever and the price doesn't match the meal. I'm not partial or angry in any way, but something seemed off. Positives: Owner Seems Nice, Servers seem very nice, hellraiser flavor was good. On the other side: 1.) Long Wait Time: Took about an hour from when I sat down to when I got two rolls. Some drama was going on in the kitchen, and I'm not even sure what happened. Maybe they ran out of rice, idk. Between all that, they for sure ran out of ice (not rice lol) because they went to refill my drink while I was waiting on the second roll. And, the server told me they had no ice. 2.) The fried roll was pretty meh and oddly cold for being freshly fried. How is that possible? The hellraiser on the other-hand was packed with flavor, which I found surprisingly good. The only issue with it was that the roll slices were falling apart because it was so large. That's partially my fault, so that's not a knock on them. 3.) Lastly, I think it's overpriced. Maybe that's an issue to source fresh ingredients? Idk. I was just a high-end sushi place the night before with two rolls/sake/tea and they were at about the same price. Maybe it was because I was in Springfield? Idk. But, I thought Joplin would be less expensive for this kind of sushi. Side Note: Ambiance seemed oddly out of place. Just seemed like a place you'd go after a teeball game with kids to get cheap pizza and a coke. Overall, I don't know if I'll come back. BUT I do wish them all the best and hope them success. This was our second visit... the first time we went the owner was there and the service was great! Food was hot (that was supposed to be hot) and fresh! Now... that brings us to this last visit... Walked in... must have interrupted an intense conversation between coworkers because the lady that seated us and greeted us seemed very rushed to get back to the conversation. Tried taking our drink orders before we were even close to her or our table... within a minute of us sitting down she was trying to take our order, which is fine that we weren't... asked if we needed a few minutes and but then never coming back... she was standing in a group of 3 coworkers by the To-go order area, had to flag down the attention of someone in the group because she had her back to us, she turned around and rolled her eyes... took our order... and unfortunately the sushi was much warmer than you'd expect from sushi and the fried roll we got... you could VERY much taste the oil, unlike before. I met my family after work for my daughter's birthday. I had got her a card cookie from The Great American Cookie Co. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a rude man that yelled at me that I can't bring outside food in. I said we are not going to eat it. He began to yell at me again that I couldn't have it in there. Wouldn't even let me get a word in other wise. I brought it in for my daughter who tuned 7 and didn't want it to melt in the truck. We were not going to eat it, again. The waitress apologized for his behavior. Had he asked nicely I wouldn't be leaving a bad review. My husband had already order drinks and appetizers or I would have got up and left. That man completely ruined the evening and they will not be getting our business ever again. When it arrived there was no wasabi at all, no chopsticks, and two little packets of soy sauce, and 8 pieces of the tiredest looking salmon I've ever seen. I am removing a star only because of service, the food is amazing and I never have a problem with but when your son spills his entire drink and nobody notices for over 10 mins then it's kind of annoying, we are in the party room so I'm assuming the ones in that room get neglected. I live in the Austin, Texas area, and I've had sushi all over the country, including New York and many places in California, and this ranks among my favorites. This was not a very good experience. When my wife and I arrived we were directed to a very small table. We ordered water and a hot jasmine tea. We were each given a menu and a 3 ring binder to make our food selection. The tea arrived a short time later. It was a plate with jasmine tea bags, honey packets, and a tea pot of water. That is pretty standard, but the honey packets were crystallized and almost impossible to squeeze out and the water was warm at best. After steeping the tea for a couple of minutes, it was room temperature. With the menus and the binder and tea, we were almost knocking stuff off of our very small table. The menu was too much info. It's hard to tell one thing from another. We ordered and it took quite a bit to be delivered to the table. The fish in the roll was fresh and good. The rice was undercooked and crunchy. read more

While we waited, the waitress brought us the different sauce options that they had and explained what each of them were. We ordered the crunchy shrimp roll, the dragon and the radical. My husband and I love trying out new restaurants, most especially ones that are locally owned. So we were very excited to come here this past weekend to see what's up. This restaurant is located in a strip mall. Inside, it is small. Has maybe 15-20 tables. Decor is nice. Pretty colorful hanging lamps and great artwork. Walls are avocado green with crisp white crown molding. Everything looks new, modern and very clean. We decided to try three different rolls. One off the Favorites menu, one deep-fried, and one basic. The favorite roll was the Crunchy Shrimp Tempura. Very delicious. This was by far the best of the three. I can see why it is one of Han's favorites. It had tempura shrimp, avocado, crab salad, and cucumber, topped with unagi sauce. Flavors went very well together; unagi was the perfect choice for sauce. For the fried roll we chose the Volcano. This one had salmon, masago, green onion, tempura crunch, deep-fried and then topped with spicy mayo and red fish egg. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was way way too crunchy, like they fried it too long. And the spicy mayo was too much for me. I had to scrape some of it off. I probably won't order this one again. As for the basic roll, we got a Spicy Lover and chose tuna for the "meat". It wasn't super incredibly spicy, and it tasted just fine. It was definitely basic, however. And the tuna was extremely mushy as if they ran it through a mill or something. So for those with texture issues, this may not be the roll for you. One thing to note: they use imitation crab here. Good thing about that is it's clearly written on the item descriptions so no one can accuse them of doing it sneakily. I'm not offended by imitation crab, but thought I'd mention it in case anyone cares. The restaurant was packed when we went about 6:30pm, so it was nice to see that. We definitely will be back to try some other rolls, but at this point we still like the Ichiban sushi restaurant the best. read more

Very bland, no variety. Every roll is the same!! Fake crab avocado and cucumber. Borrrrrrring :( Spicy rolls are not spicy and I can't take heat so, no flavor. Paid $35 for a sushi lovers plate which basically was all the same fake crab rolls. Not enough variety of dipping sauces. Not impressed. Will spend my money at other sushi choices here in Joplin. My absolute favorite place for sushi in Joplin. You can deep fry practically any roll and they specialize in sushi vs a hibachi place that doesn't have that wide variety. Found this great local place on accident, and what a find! The rolls here are very untraditional, most are customer creations. They are good clean and fresh but definitely different. My husband ordered nigiri, the tuna was by far his favorite. I ordered the Benny roll which was good as well. Make sure to ask for the cilantro sauce and the habanero sauce if you don't mind a little spice. All the staff were very friendly. We got to meet Han the owner, he made our sushi, it was such a pleasure talking to him! I love sushi. I've made the rounds of every sushi restaurant in my hometown, and I make it a point to seek out sushi restaurants wherever I travel. I've traveled through Japan, and enjoyed sushi there for at least one meal every day. The highlight was a sushi breakfast after seeing a tuna auction at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. So, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to sushi / sashimi. That's why I'm not terribly impressed with Han. First of all, I noticed a distinctly fishy scent when we entered. If I hadn't been with a party of five I would've turned around and left ... But it's difficult to get this group anywhere, and there was a monsoon-like rain outside, so we stayed. The lay-out of the restaurant is odd. You enter into a room of small tables meant for one or two people, then there are several small rooms in back with three or four tables in each. The hostess / waitress put a couple of tables together for us in one of the back rooms. I wish I'd brought my sunglasses because the lighting is bright bright bright and the walls are all painted a bright green. Hello 1988! In addition to the regular menu, we were presented with a notebook of specialty rolls created and named by customers. There were some bizarre choices, many (if not most) covered with drips and trails of sauces that would undoubtedly cover the taste of the fish. I don't understand the point of going to a sushi restaurant if you're just gonna order something that smothers the taste of the main ingredient! It's like getting an expensive steak and covering it with Heinz 57 sauce. For lunch I ordered Miso soup, a salad with ginger dressing, and the rainbow roll. The Miso soup was good, and pretty standard for a sushi restaurant. The salad was ... edible. The dressing was much more like a Thai peanut dressing with just a -hint- of ginger. The Rainbow roll is their version of a California roll (avocado, cucumber, and crab) with slices of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, ebi shrimp, and avocado on top. You have a choice of imitation crab, imitation crab salad, or spicy imitation crab for the California roll. I chose the plain imitation crab. This was not good. Perhaps they got my order wrong and put the imitation crab salad in my roll because it tasted like there was cream cheese in there somewhere ... and it was nasty. I'd really preferred to taste the (imitation) crab but it was ground into a mush. The fish on top of the roll were edible but sliced pretty thin. The ginger on the plate was diced up, tasteless, and very nearly dry. I've never seen any restaurant serve ginger like that. In short: It's an awkward and uncomfortable restaurant, and the food is not what it should be. There has -got- to be better sushi in Joplin.
