We had a great experience at Han. The teachers and management are great, and they are both encouraging and firm with the kids.

We enrolled our 6 yo at Han in Montclair a few months ago, and we couldn't be happier. The entire staff - from the front desk to the instructors - is energetic, friendly, and supportive. Master Sam, Master Jacob, and Master Edward do a fantastic job balancing real discipline with skill-building and teaching the kids to celebrate each other. Our son's confidence and interest in Taekwondo keeps climbing, and he's even helping lead class warmups now. They have built a positive, family-oriented community with fun events. Parking is always easy. Highly recommend! read more

My daughter and I have been learning Taekwondo at Han Martial Arts for about a year now but what I've enjoyed the most is watching my daughter become more confident and poised while also becoming stronger and more skilled at Taekwondo. The mental focus and concentration needed for taekwondo has not only helped my daughter's academic performance but has also sharpened her social and mentoring skills. She is 10 years old but has become smarter, sharper, more focused and more confident while learning Taekwondo at Han Martial Arts. I would recommend Han Martial Arts to anyone of any age because it's so much more than taekwondo - it's valuable life skills you can use at any age and at anytime. - Tom read more

Han Martial arts has been great for my daughter! She loves working with all the different masters. The belt system gives her something to work toward, and I've really seen her focus and discipline grow as she moved up belts. She gets an opportunity to lead stretching in class to built up her confidence. Plus it's awesome having them active a few times a week and the flexibility to pick classes that fits into our schedule. read more

We enrolled our 4 year old at Han Martial Arts and it's been one of the best activities we've enrolled him in. The instructors are all incredible with kids and really are skilled at working with all different personalities/age ranges. Our son has gained so much confidence in the few months we've been there, as well as having lots of fun. We appreciate that the instructors allow kids to be kids (energy in all) while still implementing the importance of patience, respect and responsibility. Could not recommend Han Martial Arts enough. read more

Han Martial art school has a very well-structured curriculum, and the instructors do a wonderful job teaching students the skills and techniques they need to learn at each belt level. The Masters are kind, patient, and truly care about the students. They create such a positive and supportive environment where children are encouraged to learn, grow, and follow good examples. It's a wonderful place for kids to build not only their Taekwondo skills, but also confidence, discipline, and respect. read more

Our 5 year old has been in the Tiny Tigers program for about 6 months. Our whole family has had a great experience at Han Martial Arts. The instructors are caring and attentive and we can really see our son learning and growing with each class. The focus is not just on physical ability, but on social and emotional development as well. read more

Han Martial Arts Studio is a wonderful environment for students of all ages to learn Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts. My son has attended the program since he was 5 years old in the Tiny Tiger program and progressed all the way to green advanced belt. The masters are all focused on the key behaviors for a young martial artist, honor, self-discipline, respect, self-awareness and self-control - while engaging students in the basics of Tae Kwon Do. The masters make it fun, entertaining and have a great positive attitude. Their positive-reinforcement approach make it a welcoming and nurturing environment for kids of all ages and aptitude to succeed. I highly recommend Han Martial Arts Studio to any family that is interested in providing their child a warm, fun and positive-space to learn martial arts. Thank you, Masters Han, Edward, Sam, Jacob and all the other supportive staff for a great experience for my son. read more

When I started martial arts I was a very crazy child and I would not listen mom I would run around and scream. Now I have been doing martial arts for 4 years and I just got my black belt, now I listen to my mom and do all my chores without her even asking, Han martial arts has had a great impact on my life. Thank you so much read more

Taekwondo has been my life since I was 6. It was the one extracurricular I actually enjoyed as it provided life lessons through fun activities as facades for physical exercise. Out of all the taekwondo studios I've visited, I can confirm that Han Martial arts is one of the best studios I've ever attended. They accept everyone like family and genuinely hope to help anyone who wants to learn taekwondo. I've learnt determination and confidence through Han Martial Art's fabulous and exciting teaching program. 10/10 recommended!!! read more

Our daughter has been doing Tiny Tigers for 6 months and we love it. The instructors are so kind, there's a lot of flexibility in the schedule, and we love how their belt progression process also encourages responsibilities at home. They also offer some really nice community events like Parents Night Out and a very cute Halloween event. Overall, it's super thoughtfully done for such young kids, and our daughter has a blast! read more

I've been training at Han martial arts for six years and I recently got my black belt. I couldn't be more happy with the positive and experienced Masters. Master Han and his team are always not only trying to make you better at Taekwondo and Judo, but also try to make you a better person. Their friendly attitudes and fun and effective ways Of teaching make it always amazing to learn there. I would fully recommend Han martial arts to anyone looking or not looking for a martial arts training place. read more

The instructors are absolutely fantastic and the program builds gross motor skills, physical and cardio strength, and also personal responsibility and discipline from a young age. I also highly recommend the adults and teens class, which is 50% off for parents of enrolled kids. This place is fabulous - highly recommend. read more

Master Han and all his staff are wonderful. The studio is supportive & encouraging of all ages and they very much care about everyone. It's the best out of school activity we do. Fun, supportive, nurturing, and for the adults a great work out too. If you join and have the chance to attend the Christmas party... do! I won't spoil why, but it's special. read more

Even in these unprecedented times, Han Martial Arts is amazing. Master Han, Master Baek, Master Kim (who's visiting), and Zenas have been such a blessing by continuing to offer classes and teach TKD. We've been part of this dojang for nearly 7 years, and my son still looks forward to attending and continuing this hopefully lifelong journey. This place has provided an outlet for him to get some exercise, work on discipline, and train for his next level. I am thankful for this team here -- for modeling perseverance, humility, disincline, and a positive attitude, especially when pandemic sized curveballs are thrown. If you're considering this dojang, I recommend you go for it. You won't regret it. read more

Our 7-year-old daughter has been with Master Han for the past 8 months and she's loved it. The classes are active and have a great balance of fun and more serious (age-appropriate), disciplined training. During COVID they have offered virtual classes every day and have now opened up for a few live classes a week with appropriate precautions while continuing virtual classes as well. Master Han and his teachers challenge the kids to work hard and improve themselves while also teaching them to respect others and build their self-discipline. We like the holistic approach. It's easy to see that Master Han and his teachers are passionate about teaching and developing their students. read more

We have been a part of the Hans Martial Arts family since our son was 6 years old (he is now 13 years old). Master Han and the other Masters are terrific. They are serious about their practice and what they teach, but also VERY good with children and teenagers of all ages. The culture/environment is like that of a family. Our son has learned so much from being a part of Hans Martial Arts on and off the mat. Highly recommend. read more

Han Martial Arts is a fantastic place to train Taekwondo or Judo for all ages. I have 3 children who have trained at Han Martial Arts, two of which achieved their black belts and it was truly a wonderful journey. Master Han and the masters are world class athletes, but also world class people. The culture of the dojang is one of supporting all members, learning together and achieving one's goals. I have personally seen my children grow so much at Han Martial Arts, including joining the various leadership and development teams. I highly recommend Han Martial Arts and would strongly encourage anyone thinking of studying Martial Arts to come and see for yourself. read more

We did our research before starting martial arts for our kids and heard amazing things about Han Martial Arts. It was close to our house, has a small family business feel, with many class times to choose from. So we decided to try it out and found that they really live up to their reputation! My 10 year old son and 5 year old daughter have both been enrolled for several years. I have watched the improve with their martial arts skills, but more importantly, with their maturity and dedication. Masters Han and Beck teach more than just martial arts, they are teaching the children hard work, respect and responsibility. I highly recommend Han Martial Arts! read more

Our 4 year old has been going to Han Martial Arts for the past 9 months and Master Han and Master Baek have tremendously helped my son build up his confidence! Since March, Master Han has been offering virtual classes which are engaging and still fun. During the late spring and summer months, it was the only thing that connected us to the pre-COVID days and the daily classes gave us a sense of relief and comfort in terms of having a consistent schedule. We highly recommend Han Martial Arts for families who are looking for a fun, confidence building and self-disciplined program. read more

I can't say enough good things about this organization. All the masters are extremely positive and talented. They are skilled at dealing with all age groups and I feel very lucky that my daughter has had the opportunity to go here for the past 2.5 years. I also would like to point out that they have adapted quite well to Covid and we are grateful for the opportunity to have a safe, fun and educational activity for our child to attend (both virtually and in small group) during these difficult times. read more

My 9yo twins have been going to Master Han's studio since they were 5. Master Han and his team of instructors are warm and encouraging, and adept at finding the right balance between instruction, discipline, and fun for kids at each age. They are extremely gracious and accommodating. UPDATE: Master Han started offering online classes right after the COVID-19 shelter-in-place began. Over the next few weeks they figured out how to make the experience better for the kids. More recently they've started offering small in-person classes and private lessons in the studio, in compliance with current CA guidelines, and they plan to offer classes in Montclair park when permitted. Of course it's not as fun as being there in person, but I've seen my kids continue to advance and gain confidence. read more

Han martial arts is a factory-style setup. Class sizes are large and loud and based on my experience at other academies the kid classes are basic and promotions to higher belts not based on performance. read more

My son loves Han. We've been going for two years and counting, heading for black belt. He also participates in Demo Team. It gives him courage, strength, and stamina. And pride. We moved to Alameda and we still go back to Montclair several times a week to continue with the staff there. My son won't consider going anywhere else! read more

My little 4 1/2 year old daughter started her lessons with Master Han and he is fabulous with kids. My daughter was scared to go to the class but he has a way of keeping the kids interested, disciplined, motivated and most of all learning while having a lot of fun. My daughter went to an individual class, then her and I went to family class together to get her acclimated, and then she took the group "little tiger" class. The other black belt instructor and students were very nice and made me and my daughter feel very welcome. The group class was very fun for me and my daughter. My daughter was beaming when Master Han during stretching asked her to show everyone how to touch her head to her knee and mat during stretching and praised for being the most flexible. It gave her a lot of confidence. She was having so much fun in the family class that she wanted to stay for the little tigers class. Master Han was very gentle, patient and playful with the kids but kept them focused, disciplined, and learning. I hope that my daughter keeps taking the lessons. So far I am bribing her with ice cream after class and I am keeping my fingers crosses... read more

There is something magical about sparring with an olympic level judoka and realizing that no matter what you do, they will predict your movements before you yourself are even aware of them, and they are in complete control of the situation. There is this undeniably certainty that you are about to be flipped onto your back within a couple seconds. I've only had this sense of being "completely dominated" in Judo sparring with about three people in my life, and Master Han was one of them. Master Han is awesome. Not only is he an olympic level Judo competitor, he is also extremely charming and humorous. Despite the language barrier and Korean accent, you always find yourself laughing with him rather than at him. I literally cannot imagine anyone not liking him after being around him a while. And the best part -- you're not enrolling your kid in some bull**** kiddy "karate" or aikido or useless half-assed self-defense that were really popular in the 90's ... you get to learn things that actually work -- like JUDO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOV3qVIEFng don't let that video scare you; I'm sure the kids do not train like that; I just wanted to show you that Judo is legitimate and proven to, you know, actually work in a real situation! I have not been to his new facility but I trained under him in Judo at UC Berkeley, so my review is relevant for as long as he keeps teaching at this facility. read more

Master Han is one of the most affable instructors I have ever met. This school purports the idea that there is not such thing as "no" and "can't." His program is a great opportunity to introduce children to fitness, self-discipline, respect, and self-confidence in one little package! They also offer an adult program that I have not personally attended, but I am sure it's great as well. After all, the master was an Olympian! read more

Our son has attended classes here for two years and it's the best thing we've done. It has become his second home. He has grown in so many ways- all because of Master Han's philosophy and the incredible team of dedicated masters. Today, we celebrated his 9th birthday at the studio and it was fantastic... again, because of Master Han and the other fantastic instructors. We had a very happy birthday boy- along with all his guests and parents. Thank you so much to Master Han and team for all that you do. read more

Both of my children have been attending Han Martial Arts for over 2 years and the program is amazing! The instruction begins by layering a strong foundation of TKD while having fun. The fun never stops as the training becomes more dynamic and the masters and their enthusiasm carry the students to success. In addition to mastering skills, students are also taught respect, safety and cooperation. The extra bonus is that the program extends itself beyond the dojo, and into the students homes where they are expected to carry the same respect and courtesy with their family and friends. The students are also taught how to deal with bullying and kidnap scenarios - which my children care deeply about. My family wholeheartedly recommends Han Martial Arts and we consider the instructors and supportive team as an extension of our family. -- Sills Family read more

I'm not sure how much skill or talent there is the kids scream at the top of their lungs and are outrageously loud compared to any other martial arts studio even where there are many more kids. It makes me think it is mostly about the screaming and not skill. read more

If I could give Han Martial Arts six stars, I would. Master Han and the other masters are so good with the kids, and there is a focus on building their confidence and improving their behavior. They have also been great about adjusting their program to meet COVID safety guidelines, and they offer both in-person and Zoom classes. I have personally had an amazing experience with the teen/adult program. There are lots of opportunities for older students like me (I'm eighteen) to have leadership roles at the dojang, as instructors, on the poomsae team, etc. I have learned not only taekwondo but also how to teach taekwondo and work with kids, which has been incredible valuable for me. The Masters are also very accommodating and can personalize your training if needed. For example, after I missed my second degree black belt test due to an injury, Master Han gave me an individual belt test once I was healed. Han Martial Arts has been a second home to me for the past eight years. I would highly recommend it for all ages and fitness levels. read more

This place is amazing. My 5 year old son is has done a 2 weeks trial. He is not very athletic. But he loves going to Han Martial Arts. Our son has been attending Han Martial Arts for the past 1.5 years. He started as a timid kid that was physically behind his age group in terms of strength and stamina. It has been amazing to watch him grow, not just in ability, but in confidence as well. All of the masters have been truly fantastic. They are all incredibly skilled with positive discipline and I have seen how their methods are effective with every kind of kid. Most importantly, all of the students are always having fun! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

How to say this delicately? My kids attended a different dojo for nearly 2 years and always had fun, but never really learned anything other than how far they could push the sensei before they would get in trouble. With Master Han, however, after the 2nd lesson, they came home asking me to look online so they could learn how to count in Korean and my older son is practicing his steps and sequences freqently (and without direction from me) so he can advance in his belts. Additionally, since Master Han focuses on positive reinforcement instead of discipline, my kids spend the class trying to be as good as they can be (and are therefore learning a ton). I always try to get some work done during the class, but every time end up totally engrossed in watching the class and laughing with delight at Master Han's good natured teaching and my children's reactions. I could not be happier there. Here's what my kids have to say: I think it's really good martial arts place because they don't really yell at us that much and it makes me feel really comfortable that they don't yell at me. I don't get headaches, because they don't yell at me. I've also learned a lot there - like how to count in Korean. It's a really good place beacause there are a lot of really nice kids and Master Han is a really nice teacher. - 7 year old I LOVE Master Han's place because he doesn't make us do pushups. He's also really funny and he plays a fun game called Doggy (where we have to jump) and Monkey (where we have to duck) and I love that game. - 5 year old read more
