I'm not sure when it became Harvest Hills Market. The current Harvest Hills Market has a nice selection of organic produce, a whole wide range selections of Amy's Soups, other essentials such as non-dairy yogurt, non-dairy milk, hummus, tofu, & more. The prices overall are a bit costly yet if you live in the neighborhood might be more convenient to pick up some items. Pro tip: keep your eye out for specials. When I was last here they had two containers of organic strawberries for just $3 which is a good deal. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

Literally there is something spoiled, old, rotten or expired in every food item I have purchased. Aside from being way overpriced, they do not behave like a neighborhood spot. I've brought rotting fruit/avocados back-they never allow for a return its not their problem. it IS their problem. I just bought some chips-$7. SO STALE I ALMOST BROKE A TOOTH. like really? are they trying to be terrible neighbors? it could be so good, its in a great neighborhood wherer people support buying local. But there is zero reciprocity. i am so DONE. Save some cash, go a few blocks up to mission st to casa lucas or guadalupe.

I came here with my current very ragged, extra stinky foster dog. She's a small terrier mix who spent at least a year on the streets. She is a combination of terrier bravado and extreme love me cuteness, but she doesn't know some of the basics of being a companion dog. So the bath plan was very new to her. Everything was set up for me - towels, wash cloth, massaging brush, apron. There are shampoo choices that you can smell before testing which is very important to people with allergies. Because the dog is healing from a major flea infestation, we chose the calming oatmeal shampoo. We were also given a blueberry shampoo for her face and conditioner. Everything is mixed in squeeze bottles for easy application. They also gave us a bowl of treats to keep her happy during her bath. They explained how everything worked and made sure to get the water to a good temperature before we started. The shampoo was excellent quality as was the conditioner. They checked on me to make sure things worked well. When we moved to the drying area, the table had been raised to make things easier. I also want to mention how clean everything is. We were there later in the day. You would think they had just opened given that everything was sparkling. I'm sure other dogs had been there that day, but you couldn't tell. We left happy. The dog looked wonderful and bounced out of there as happy as could be.

Finally -- a Pet Store That Actually Cares as Much as You Do!…read more I drove all the way from Sacramento just to visit Maxwell's Pet Bar, and it was absolutely worth the trip! I have a Belgian Malinois, and even before coming in, the team was so kind and helpful over the phone -- patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping me choose the best food for her. When I arrived, I was blown away. The shop is beautiful, clean, and filled with the highest-quality, thoughtfully selected products. You can tell everything they carry is chosen with real purpose and care. What truly stood out, though, were the owners. Jen and Christy (apologize for misspelling ahead of time) are passionate, down-to-earth, and incredibly knowledgeable about pet health and nutrition. They took the time to answer every question, explain ingredients, and make sure I left feeling confident and informed. I honestly felt like I was hanging out with friends who love animals just as much as I do. Even though they likely offer shipping, I'll gladly make the drive again just to experience that level of customer service and connection. If you're serious about your pet's wellbeing and want to support people who genuinely care, Maxwell's Pet Bar is the place. Truly one of a kind!

This particular location seems to have less inventory than the Hayes Valley location but that's understandable as they probably have less foot traffic - there were maybe two other shoppers in the store at the same time as me. I'm a slow shopper so I meandered through the entire store for a bit before choosing a box of candy near the front of the store. I would have wanted 3 boxes but only saw the one box sitting by itself so I asked the only staff member I saw if they had any more. He said something along the lines of "we're not Safeway, we don't have a bunch of inventory laying around" - kind of cold and unfriendly so I didn't even try to ask if other locations might have any or if there was any other similar products he could recommend. I just bought the one item but if I had felt a bit more welcome, I would have potentially bought several more gifts. YMMV.
