It was a holiday weekend (Labor Day, easily one of the busiest for this line) and he managed to get me on the bus with my friends so we could enjoy the ride together. With all the negative reviews on here, I thought i'd chime in with my experience. My boyfriend and I traveled from Boston to visit New York for a weekend. We decided to book a hotel in Montauk but traveled to the city. When we tried to return back to our hotel, we bought train tickets from Penn Station to Montauk Station. When time came for the train we were told by police officers that the train got canceled when it actually didn't, so we ended up missing the train and were stuck in 0 degree weather in the city, 6 hours from home. Our other option was to wait until 12:45 AM for the next train to bring us to the hotel by 5 AM. We were looking up other ways of transportation when we came across something called a jitney, and it turned our night completely around. Not familiar with any of the transportation here, we were a bit skeptical but we needed to get out of the horrible weather so we decided to take our chances with the jitney bus. The bus left at around 10:15 PM with about 5 other passengers on it. The bus was heated and very cozy and quiet. The bus driver was a SAINT, not only was he extremely nice but very caring. We were the last stop and at that point we were the only ones left on the bus. Our car was a 30 minute walk from where the bus was going to drop us off, and it was still 0 degrees. Our bus driver literally told us he wasn't going to let us walk a half hour in this ridiculous weather, so he drove us all the way to our car. He was so nice and made our experience so much better. We were having a terrible day, and he completely turned it around. It's a fast and affordable way to get from NYC to LI and vice versa, would highly recommend :) The bus drivers name was Ed, he was wonderful thank you!!! read more

Although Im counting down the days to when the luxury liner runs full schedule my expereince on the jitney has been somewhat ok but I then am faced with always two things that makes me really wanna storm into the there office in the omni firstly there is one attended who gets on my nerves and if there one thing to cut cost its getting rid of the attened who screams into the micraphone or in your face late at at night when you are the only person on the bus. This was the most miserable experience of my life. First bus breaks down (not their fault, but annoying). Second bus driver decides to drive 11 miles past my stop (Islip Airport) and then when I say I was supposed to go to Islip she chuckles and remarks "too bad". She will call dispatch with another arrogant tone in her voice. I have to get dropped off at a random gas station and order my own Uber. All and all I made it to my flight 10 mins before it took off. They reimbursed my Uber and bus ticket but not after days of calling and being lied to about where customer service people were. They also don't work on Sundays and Mondays.....will never use again. read more

I took the jitney twice in the last week and it was great, I was worried after reading the reviews on here but everything went smoothly. Both buses left on time and arrived on time, the AC worked fine and so did the toilets, they even passed out free water and snacks! I would definitely take the jitney again. read more

A violent ride , I felt every bump and bolt move in that bus. I think in Zimbabwe they have buses that are a bit more up to date. For the price they charge they should have buses that are not made in 1980. read more

The bottom line: Hampton Jitney as a company has bad business practices, and simply prioritizes their profit over the health and well-being of their customers and employees. Shame on Hampton Jitney. Now some background: the Hampton Jitney was once a reasonably priced, comfortable option for commuting between Manhattan and the Forks. I have been a customer more times than I can count, primarily because it remains to be the more convenient transportation to choose, despite my enduring and increasing disappointment in this company for years. The prices have continued to increase (most recently to $27 for the pre-paid option and $33 per person for paying onboard). And what, might you ask, does the customer receive as a result of this increased fare? A near-capacity bus during Covid-19 restrictions. If you care about your health and the health of others - I implore you to find another way to commute. While the bus drivers did notify the passengers (once) that masks were to remain on for the duration of the trip, people were eating, drinking, and conversing. This is of no fault to our bus driver - who, I'm sure, in addition to having to focus on the road, was also trying to rationalize the risk of contracting Covid-19 while driving for hours on a bus packed with 40 people. Simply put, this company doesn't deserve your money. Support ANY other business before you prop up these monopolizing, Covid-19 restriction-flouting clowns. read more

They provide the minimal expectation for a bus service. They do get you from one point to the other. The drivers do know their way around Long Island and can minimize the delays on the Long Island Parking Lot. However, the quality of service is terribly unreliable. The attendants are curt boarding on professionally polite. Reservations are a nightmare. The reservations desk is generally rude and apparently too busy to bother. The back ground noise on their end also makes it very difficult to hear or understand them. Make sure to write down your reservation number. I have had 2 instances of reservations disappearing. Make sure to have the representative repeat the entire reservation before you leave the call. I have had one reservation made for the wrong day. A club membership number is only useful when...well, it's not really useful at all. The website limits you to one reservation per form. It would be useful to be able to use your club number to auto-fill the form, but alas, no such luck. Unfortunately, there are no real alternatives for getting to and from the South and North Forks. read more

I had a long day of medical tests next door to the Omni/Jitney. Called ahead to reserve a seat on the 3:30pm bus 08/02/11. Got there at 2:50pm when the Ambassador was pulling away, it had one seat but someone stand-by took it. When I called, no one gave me this option. Went inside to buy a ticket, unsmiling, unhappy workers that barely made eye contact. Went outside to wait because the Omni smells of sweat and mildew, the coffee shop was gated shut at 3:00pm. Sat on the wood bench on the side that was shady to avoid the scorching hot sun. Reading some emails, only one other person waiting. A bus pulled up at 3:20 so I got up and the attendant said no, this is not your bus, it's going East so I sat back down. The next thing I know, another attendant shows up and tells me to " get in line!!!" I stand up and see he is taking names so I pull out my ticket and ask him if he will take my name but he says " I will take your name when you get in line!!!" and then I see at least 20 people have lined up but I tell him I was the first person waiting so I stand behind the person he has just taken their name. Do then he yells at me " Oh so you are just going to cut in front of all these people now???!!!" I have never been so humiliated and a guy next to me said he was waiting after me too. We sat on the bench at the front! This attendant has ZERO people skills and was incredibly rude and condescending! I told him he should give his customers the benefit of the doubt before he goes ahead and decides I am trying to cheat! He told me " to get over it!!!" If I didn't have to get back to the city, I would not have let it go. He did finally say he was sorry for how he spoke to me and another passenger said to me that he could have delivered his message in a much less hostile manner! Once I got on the bus, it was pretty full so I had to sit at the back near the toilet and someone went inane took a stinking dump!!! Seriously, you can't wait to do that at home??? The attendant going up and down the aisle half a dozen times was nice and smiled. She had to wake up a few people to collect their money. This is why I much prefer the Hampton Luxury Liner. The value pack works out to be $28 per ride. I paid $30 for the abusive Jitney and they collect your money up front so transactions aren't going on for half the bus ride. The snacks and magazines are at the back so you help yourself and the toilet doesn't smell like a sewer! The Jitney got me from point A to B but I prefer to give my business to a company that trains their staff to treat the customer with respect.Call me old fashion but manners and class go a long way in maintaining your clientele. read more

The folks went above and beyond when my son left his iPad on the bus last weekend. We called the office and spoke to a friendly, understanding human who made the rounds and learned that it had been found and was in the office in Southampton.... (we're in Manhattan) With a phone call the next day we arranged to send it in with a bus driver and I met the bus in the city...Not sure who, but someone ran to catch the departing late bus to get it to the driver (thanks!) and the drivers were patient with my calls and friendly...everything worked out smoothly, simply, between people, without any expectations other than a thank you ...old school, if you know what I mean. Don't take the jitney to go to JFK. They say they do it but they don't. They leave you in the middle of nowhere and a bunch of fake cabs wait for you. They charged me 40 dollars for a 15 minutes ride to JFK terminals... otherwise, from NYC to the hamptons it's easy and confortable. read more

I take the Jitney frequently from the North Fork and think it's a terrible service. Why do I take it frequently, then? Because it's a monopoly. The train, which is far nicer, runs just twice-a-day most days. Hampton Jitney took over the route from the slightly better Sunrise Express a few years ago and it's pretty clear that they are even more indifferent to their North Fork customers than they are to those heading to the Hamptons. I'm no fan of overly polite service people but the North Fork team is usually rude, overwhelmed, blithely unconcerned, or some combination of those. The wi-fi is just a tease. Your fellow passengers run the gamut with some very preoccupied with keeping the seat next to them unoccupied to the point that they sit on the aisle and plunk thir luggage down by he window. Please make a point of sitting next to these people to teach them a little lesson. There are occaisional cell phone chatters, some bathroom befoulers, all inevitable, I suppose, but not situations that the bus staff would ever attempt to assert any control over or take responsibility for. Oh, and you'll enjoy the darkened interior courtesy of the bus-wrapped ad on the exterior. Go ahead and ask if you get a discount for promoting tequila while you're riding to the City. On the positive side, the schedule is convenient and, despite traffic, the bus is almost always on time (the schedule is padded to ensure this.) Unfortunately, there really isn't much that any of us can do to pressure the Hampton Jitney to provide better service. They really don't have much incentive since there's no alternative. One very long shot would be to repy to this comment by indicating your interest in taking a better bus from a different company if one were available. Would you pay more? Would you be more willing to travel at different times? Would you support a competitor just in the interest of promoting free enterprise and in the hope of keeping Hampton Jitney on their toes? Would you be loyal to any particular bus company or would you just are whichever one was cheaper or left at the right time? It's possible that there is even some sort of government support through tax breaks or by other means for someone who wants to break up a local monopoly, especially when it's one that controls a vital service like transportation. More expensive than the LIRR, but *so* very worth it. The buses are immaculate, the staff friendly, there are rules limiting cell phone use, the seats are comfortable and they give out water and food. For example, if you ride in the morning, you'll get a muffin and pretzels or some other snack along those lines. When I ride the Jitney, I never have to deal with drunken idiots, arctic temperatures, staff who hit on me when I'm trapped for hours on end in a train car that somehow always smells like diapers no matter how far away I am from the bathroom and loud, obnoxious cell phone use. The ride is also a lot faster than taking the train(when I'm going out to Long island, I'm headed to East Quogue), which is always a plus and doesn't involve transfers resulting in double the waiting time for trains that arrive when they feel like it. Sometimes, it just makes more sense to shell out a little extra for the sake of comfort. Picking the Jitney over the LIRR is definitely a decision that falls into this category for me. read more

HAMPTON AMBASSADOR review. This is consistently the best way to go east and back. $45 each way but only $35/ticket if you buy a value pack. Book well in advance! The seat selection feature for $5 means no fighting for your seat and 3 seats per aisle means 10 lucky people get to sit alone. The leather seats are quite large and there is ample leg room. My 6'2" friend was even comfortable on this bus. The attendants are pleasant and extremely helpful. They go out of their way to make sure everyone has what they need and knows to ask for anything else. Rado has been my attendant several times and he is the best! Give the man a raise! Free wine, unlimited snacks (the usual chips and similar but also granola bars), coffee, tea, water, juice, newspapers, towelettes, headphones. They consistently show a movie. Bathrooms are pretty clean. read more

Will a bad review keep anyone away? No it will not, as this is the only transportation service to the East End from the Eastside of NYC. However be aware as other reviewers stated they will almost always be late and will always blame it on traffic, even when there is none. My sons bus from Airport connection was an hour late. Blamed on traffic even though other buses scheduled at the same time going to the North Fork & Ambassador arrived much closer to on time then his bus. When they all left Manhattan at the same time how could one be 10 minutes late, one twenty and ours an hour?? The driver seemed disoriented and at first insisted that he was driving the 10:20 bus rather then the 9:20 which is what he actually was. After being lied to repeatedly that they were stuck in traffic we were then told they had been stopped at the tunnel by transit police??? If you are on the westside take the train. read more

So I took the jitney to sag harbor and back. Both times is was over 45 minutes late. The 10pm one showed up at 10:45 then we had to transfer and now it's 11:15 and we just left south harbor. Still 2 hours away from Manhattan....save yourself the hassle and just rent a car! read more

Ambassador was nice. The person working was nice. The driver was a raging jerk. He drove off without getting my luggage and when I chased him down and reminded him I had a bag, he actually rolled his eyes at me and muttered under his breath. Then he said I had given him the wrong stop and didn't know where my bag was. A moment earlier, he didn't even know I had a bag! He kept yelling at me, which was utterly humiliating, until I asked him if this was getting us anywhere and wouldn't it be easier to look for my bag than scream at me. Made reservations back from NoFo. Bus arrived on time but was oversold, even w reservations. Driver took a bunch of us, standing, to another bus w promised seats. No seats on bus two to another town. Bus three would not take any of us. Bus four, in another town we were taken to, finally had a seat. No wifi. The company blamed traffic for delays. There were no delays. They oversold and did not honor reservations. Look, take Bolt bus to Boston all the time and it is also packed. But you pay for your reservation and therefore have a seat. Clean w wifi. Will never take Jitney again. Complaints to company mean nothing to them. read more

Too bad zero stars isn't an option. This is the third time I've taken it in a week. The first bus was late and beyond disorganized. It took 4 hours to get to East Hampton in minimal traffic. On the second trip, the driver was violent and aggressive towards the passengers, especially one female. He stopped the bus twice. The second time he threatened to call the police if one particular passenger didn't get off the bus. He essentially held us hostage. I was terrified. The police came and the driver refused to go on. Again, we were late. Then we had to switch busses. They offered us half off. So cheap. I'm currently on another bus (should have learned my lesson the first two times) and my seat won't go back. When I told the attendant the seat was broken, he said "yup" and ignored me. I hope he trips when the bus stops short. Taking the Luxury Liner on the way back. read more

I was on the Hampton Jitney coach bus from Amagansett to New York, and my driver was Phil and the attendant is Lois. I found her to be very attentive and engaging with her customers she made the experience very pleasant. Lois in my opinion is a tremendous asset to the company and represents it well. read more

We have been taking trips to Yankee Stadium for a few years now, and had no complains until this Saturday afternoon trip. Traffic was horrendous, which could not be helped of course. But once we arrived at the Audi Club we were told we had 35 minutes to eat until we would have to leave, since the next seating for the tables would start at seven---since we arrived too late. Now it does not take a genius to figure out, that we just left to late with the bus giving extra time for traffic on a Saturday Afternoon! Plus we were never told that we had two hours at the Audi Club and then had to leave. The Assistant had no clue either, even when asked if we could go later for another snack or whatever. Just sit and wait until they "kick" you out- was the information we were told! Really!!! The seats in the outfield were nice, no complains there. Hopefully Hampton Jitney will take this information in account when they plan the next trip. read more

Took the regular jitney out and ambassador back. Bus was on time on both ends, hostesses were great. Would do it again. I deducted a star because I lost money on a reservation I couldn't cancel because I as in meetings. Lesson learned: reserve, but pay on the bus. read more

Hampton Jitney showed up 40 minutes late for a Northfork bound Manhattan pickup. The office when called was rude, could give no ETA and then hung up on me and then made the excuse to another rider that there was traffic. Well yeah there is always traffic. The drivers made no apology either.this is shoddy customer service. It would be simple to text passengers that the pickup was late and to provide an updated ETA. This monopoly needs to learn more about basic customer service. read more

Horrible Customer Service- Used this Bus company several times from Manorville to NYC Memorial Sloan Kettering to be with a dying family member last month Due to a situation at the hospital we had to miss our scheduled paid for bus and when we called the office were told it would be no problem to take the next bus. On the way home to manorville 15 minutes away we were told that we would "have to pay again" and take it up with the office durring business hours for a possible refund on our first paid for bus that we missed., We were harrased and humiliaded by the crew as if we were trying to be freeloaders when in fact we paid for a round trip and the later bus we took was only half full so it was not taking anybodys seat After what we went through with the rude bus crew and office staff we would never take this Bus service again or recomend it to anybody Thank God for the new 2nd ave subway line which stops close to Sloan Kettering and the other NYC hospitals read more

great way to get to and from nyc .the only problem are the people who make the reservations and the coordinations that are placed at busy stops during the summer days. i dont appreciate seeing them supplement their weekly income by pocketing money from people who are deemed walk ons ;those who have not secured reservations, and ,(there is no record of a name )traveling aboard the bus. the attendants dont always take names so no one knows how many have paid to ride who did not book a ride in advance. read more

I have ridden Hampton Jitney's buses back and forth from the North Fork to Manhattan countless times over quite a few years, and I would not recommend their service to anyone. Several times I have been disrespected by the employees and my fellow riders alike. Their customer service is just terrible. For instance, when trying to call up to change a reservation I was promptly told I would have to work it out with that specific bus driver, that they "wouldn't touch it," and when trying to ask the bus driver if I could use the reservation I had already paid for, I was told "nah they took that. You've gotta pay again." Another fun thing to deal with is the apparent prejudice from the staff. One day when I didn't have a reservation and had to wait for most of the bus to board, I was told there were no seats left and that I should make a reservation and pay online.. Which would have been fine if they didn't proceed to let on the next two people, both young women, to walk up without reservations. The attendant lady told me "Oh she just took my seat, that's all. It's fine." ..No, that's not fine. Or professional. I've also been told to go to the back of the line (which gets long for some trips) for no apparent reason and with no explanation, when I had been waiting there the longest. Yet they can do all this because they are the only public transportation that regularly goes directly between the end of the North Fork and Manhattan, and they know it. They don't need decent customer service when they know they're the only method of transportation available for their customers. I will be taking the LIRR as much as possible after dealing with them. read more

The Bolt Bus from DC to NYC has this company beat by a mile. It is now 35 minutes and no bus in sight. On the way here, there were not enough seats for those with reservations. Not sure I'd ever recommend this one. read more

There are a lot of things not to like about the Jitney. First, unlike the LIRR, it often gets stuck in traffic. On busy summer days, you are much better off on the train at a cheaper price. Second, the customer service people on the phone are rude, impatient and unhelpful. Third, the extras that they give you on the bus are pretty worthless: Hostess-style muffins, cheapo orange juice and yesterday's Southampton Press. Take the train. read more
