Beautiful weather in mid October made for a wonderful weekend getaway for our 20th wedding…read moreanniversary..  Peggy warmly greeted and checked us in followed by a property tour. The building was quaint with each room tastefully decorated with cool and funny schoolhouse memoirs.  Well kept grounds included a pool, vegetable garden, vines and bicycles, with close proximity to local restaurants and shops.  We enjoyed the balcony for Schoolroom #4 every opportunity we had. The claw tub bath/shower provided a functional look into the past while the outdoor bath  provided a unique treat of showering under the stars. We ordered the wine and flowers package and were delightfully happy to see that the flowers were beautifully arranged in a vase in our room.  And the wine chilled upon arrival just begging to be enjoyed. Our gourmet breakfast was sparse but tasty with fresh squeezed OJ.  And dinner hosted by Chef Meseret was exquisite dining at its best.  She loves cooking and it's reflected in her dishes. .. every item was fresh and flavorful with the generous crab cake entree a show stopper.  It was all crab.. no fillers, just a bit of egg to hold it together. We had an enjoyable weekend and hope to explore the area more on another visit.

He hesitated, but then let me do so. I thanked him profusely for letting me use the restroom. I went on my way and got in my car 30 seconds later I was exhausted by this gentleman who proceeded to tell me how inconsiderate it was of us to come to an establishment in the park in front of a business. I however, did not know that we were parked in a space that was not appropriate to, but more than that. I was shake it. He knocked on my car door and proceeded to berate me for parking in front of a business establishment. He said he hoped that I would come back. I'm not really sure what he meant by that nor would I ever come back to a place where I was scared in uncomfortable. I can't really say anything about what he served or anything he did, but I will reiterate that it was so inappropriate of him to knocked on my car door. It scared me to the point where I thought about it any hours in the day.

Apparently the term "boutique hotel" means it operates a bit on the margins. The structure felt old but solidly built and my room was renovated nicely. Other reviewers seemed to have had issues with AC, but mine worked well during some robust summer heat. It was a comfortable room that I spent plenty of time in. The fact that they send you a code remotely to check in is convenient, but not having a regular on-site person to talk to felt a little strange. The kayaks they offered looked a little old but functional. I didn't get around to taking one but other people did and it looked like a nice little inlet to kayak in. The titular pier has a good view, and I observed ample sea life in the estuarine waters that I came to experience. Sightings will vary of course, but if you want to see a blue crab I think your chances are pretty high.

I was so excited to stay here. I loved the themed rooms and although the decor was adorable we were…read moreextremely disappointed. First off, the plumbing was a nightmare. Our toilet clogged several times. Luckily the first time the cleaning lady was on site and provided us a plunger. The shower drained so slowly that it would fill up with water every time we used it. Housekeeping service was non-existent. Our trash piled up and after two days we had to track down a maid to get fresh towels. I'm assuming she was there to clean a recently vacated room as that was the first time we had seen her since day 1. When we initially checked in, we were given only two towels, one washcloth, and one hand towel. Cleanliness was also a big issue. We battled gnats the entire stay. Also, when we first walked in, I ran directly into a spider web, which we shrugged off, but on the last day, a spider crawled into my husband's ear while he was sleeping! That was absolutely horrifying. The grounds of the hotel were equally neglected. The flowerbeds were overgrown and looked like they hadn't been tended to in ages. The outside trash can was overflowing, with room trash that guests were emptying themselves. If you are looking for good food, head to Salt Waterfront Kitchen down the road. Overall, the poor maintenance, lack of cleanliness, and subpar service made this stay one of the worst we've ever had.

Modern but still captured the old coastal feel. It was super musty and smelled like it. There was a dehumidifier but it was so small, in two nights we actually had to dump the water bucket 4 times. And if we left all day, we came back to a damp room. I'm not sure what causes that - we live in a super humid area and don't have the same issue, but maybe a larger humidifier would help. The breakfasts were fantastic - you can order anything off their restaurant menu. I didn't have anything bad, everything was super fresh and came in huge portions. I do wish they had an espresso machine but the coffee was okay. Check out was also a breeze. This isn't a luxury location, my main complaint was the price for it feels steep, but it's one of the only spots in the area which is probably why they can charge so much. Overall, a great stay and I would definitely come back here if I was in the area again.

My wife's house salad was very tasty but had several pieces of wilted greens that she picked out. I started with the French onion soup, which was very salty. Almost too salty to eat. My wife had the salmon and I had the Shrimp in the sambuca sauce. The salmon was cooked good and very flavorful, the asparagus was cooked perfectly and good tasting. The shrimp were cooked well but the dish itself was lacking flavor. I was surprised at the absence of the sauce. It barely covered the pasta. The waitress did offer to add more sauce to it, and actually brought out some more sauce with a little more sambuca in it. It did improve the dish, but not one of my favorites. So 5 stars on the salmon dish. 3 stars on the salad. 1 star on the French onion soup, and 3 stars on the shrimp sambuca sauce dish. I have had the French onion soup before and it was good, so this was just a bad night. We will still go there because they usually are very good, and everyone can have an off night. The waitress told the chef about the sambuca sauce and she said he agreed with me and tweek the sauce.

The house was cozy and very homey and the bed was extremely comfortable! Coffee, tea, and snacks were always available in the dining room and Judith and Bill cooked breakfast in the morning. I had a mozzarella, basil, and tomato frittatta and my husband had the french toast, both with bacon. DELISH! Also breads, preserves, and homemade granola. We enjoyed our breakfast and chatted with Judtih and Bill for awhile. My husband left early and then i sat with a couple of our other friends and we continued to chat with Judith for awhile. All in all a charming B&B and fabulous hosts. We are hoping to have a reason to visit again! LOVED IT!

They had free wireless internet, so you can have some contact with the outside world if you like. This is a classic B&B, decorated in very soothing colors and liveable antiques. Coffee was put out early every morning, and the breakfasts were filling and tasty- with the highlights being what was made there- homemade granola and fresh preserves (jam). Bill makes great omlettes and bacon as well! The two labs, Abbey and Savana are sweeties, but only seemed to get used to us after 3 nights. They are protective and will bark, but in a way as to welcome you home. A quick rub behind the ears and they miraculously remember you. Urbanna itself is SMALL, so make sure you have activities beyond tea and breakfast- we just used the wireless to plan our outings each day. I was pleasantly surprised that our pet-friendly room not only had a door to the back garden (so you dont run through and disturb other guests) but there was no additional fee/rent. That combined with the great breakfasts make it very reasonable. I will be returning soon! p.s. location is wrong on map- located 1 block from Cross and Virginia Streets near the town center.
