I stayed at this hotel on the evening of Monday 3rd July 2017.
This is the worst hotel I have stayed in for years, even though I have stayed in many Hampton Inn hotels over the past couple of years.
I don't pay for five star hotels but when I book a hotel that is supposed to be a three star, I expect a certain standard. This hotel falls WAY BELOW that standard. I don't know who is being paid to award the stars to hotels, but they need to revisit and review this one again. This hotel is barely a two star.
The hallways STINK. The rooms smell even worse ! It's a mixture of mold, dirt and wet dog. It is disgusting. It smells like they were a smoking hotel years ago and they haven't changed the carpets since they converted to being a non-smoking hotel. I can honestly say I have NEVER smelled a hotel this bad.
My TV was broken. I couldn't do anything with it.
Wallpaper is peeling off the walls in many places in the rooms.
The toilet and bath have obviously been there since the 1970's. The hotel has tried to make the bathrooms look more modern with newer wallpaper etc, but it doesn't work. The bathrooms feel dirty. I left my shoes on because I didn't want to touch the bath or the floor. In fact, I wore my shoes the entire time because I didn't want to touch the floor in the bedroom either !
The air conditioning unit was broken. It only works on one setting - super cold. It also cannot cope with the humidity in the room which means when you get in bed, the sheets feel damp. I thought they would feel better after I had been in bed a while but they felt damp and cold all night. Disgusting. This may explain why the room smells of mold and why the wallpaper is peeling off the walls.
Despite checkout being at 12 noon, the cleaning crew were opening my door and walking in at 10am - even though I had the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door !
When I looked in the hallway, there were dozens of rooms vacant which the cleaning crew could have been working on (they had left the doors wide open) but instead they were trying to get into my room as quickly as possible ! Very weird. Couldn't they have worked on the vacant rooms first and then cleaned my room after I had checked out ?
When we checked in, the lady on the desk was not very friendly - not rude - but just not friendly at all. Our check-in took about 60 seconds because she wanted us out of her way as soon as possible.
When we checked out, it was a tall, young man who was also unfriendly. Again, he wasn't rude, but he wasn't friendly and seemed uncomfortable dealing with people.
Neither of them said "hello", "goodbye", "how was your stay ?" or any other pleasantries.
This hotel seems to be a stopping off place for people who are passing through Kansas. No one seems to stay more than one night. This is how they seem to get away with running such a terrible hotel. Come on Hampton Inn - put some money into this hotel and stop ripping off your customers !
I was glad to leave this hotel and head home so I could shower and get myself clean again. I was glad I was not traveling with children. I wouldn't like my kids touching the floors and being exposed to the mold.
AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS ! There are other hotels in Salina. read more
