I booked a last-minute reservation with this property because I was actually staying at the Holiday Inn express. They refuse to let me check in early even with a platinum status, so I took my business away from them. Before I did, I called the Hampton Inn never had been at this property before and amazing employee by the name of Leland assisted me. I explained that possibly would like to check in a little bit early because I was changing hotels, and the checkout time was a lot earlier than what their check-in time was. He said normally that's not a problem but just let me verify that we have a room ready. Now this was at 10 o'clock in the morning. He came back and said that will not be a problem. Absolutely you can come anytime and we'll get you checked in. Yet when I try to check in at the Holiday Inn express in Algonquin at 12 o'clock I was told I would be charged $40 for that extra time even though the daily rate was $106 and I held a platinum status. When I actually arrived, Leland was behind the desk and he couldn't have been more accommodating and generous. He did not know my story until after I checked in. I even had a blender and spilled water all over the council by the elevators and he's so kindly took care of it. I asked to actually clean up the mess, but he refused and said don't you worry. We've had a lovely stay so far. Thank you Hampton in McHenry for making a difficult day turn out. It's a little bit of sunshine and thank you Leland for your excellent customer service. read more

Overall decent hotel. We did Everything through the app, checking in and checking out made it easy. Clean room, comfortable beds pillows and blankets were good. Snack mini fridge and microwave. Bathroom could've been slightly cleaner, but it was nothing that we needed to call the front about, more of a deep cleaning thing. Gym is a good size and has nice equipment. Didn't check out the pool. Breakfast was delicious. Saturday was cheese omelet, seasoned potatoes and sausage Pattie's, make your own waffles big and mini(so cute). Batter was vanilla or cinnamon sugar. Yummy pastries, juice, bagels, cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit. Sunday was all same pastries and waffles but the hot food was scrambled eggs, turkey sausage and biscuits n gravy. Coffee was fine, nothing special. Just checked out. I am floored at the lack of customer service. I checked in via the app last night but did not arrive until after 7:30 pm. Went to my room and used digital key. After a long day of tavel and meetings, I just wanted to rest. First, the jumping above me started and then in the hallway. Finally went to sleep only to be woken by more noise above me and then tbe maid knocking on my door. I went to the desk to share my frustration. The manager, Julie, was there. As I was telling her the situation, 2 other gentlemen walked up. Julie just walked away. I had no idea who I was speaking to. They never introduced themselves. They proceeded to tell me that no one knocked on my door. It was probably the room next to me. I said when I yelled yes the person said they would come back. They then said there was no way anyone knocked on my door, and they can't do anything about the jumping. I totally get that. But this is why I am very disappointed and would not recommend this hotel. I went back to my room, and I went to get in my room, and it says I am checked out and can not use my key. I go to the naud to let me in, and she redirects me to the front desk. I then asked her if she knocked on my door, and she said yes. These 2 me pretty much nad me think I was crazy and it coukd not have happened. I went back downstairs and asked why I was checked out. The nice front desk oerson said I have no idea. Obviously, something went wrong, and that is why she knocked on my door. But instead of listening to me, they argued with me that there was no way. I asked to soeak with the manager or the 2 gentleman again. The front desk person went to the back office for a few minutes. Then came back and said I would need to give you a new key. I said are they coming up. He said no, they are out and about. That was a lie. I heard them. I get it, but to ignore the request of a customer is not okay. Maybe they should be in a different field if they would not like to handle customers concern. Very unprofessional and shocking for a Hilton Honors hotel. If you stay, I hope you have no issues. They will only argue with you and not look into it. I was at the hotel for a total of 14 hours and woke up over 4 times. The last one from the knocking on my door. Their customer service is awful. When a manager walks away in the middle of a conversation, no one identifies themselves, and then they proceed to pretty much dismiss you and your experience. I am sorry my comfort matters. I have canceled my future bookings with them and am going back to Hyatt. Was hoping our company could use them for our consultants and such. We are coming to the area and need monthly accommodations. The first impression was not good. I need to know my concerns ate heard. That did not happen here. read more

We stay at this hotel when we visit family. Our room is usually fine, but the last couple times we stayed, the common area was really dirty. The tables were dirty and sticky, the floors were dirty, the windows on the automatic entry doors were streaky as if someone took a dirty wet rag and wiped in circles and let it dry that way. On a positive note, the breakfast is always good. They have a nice variety of items to choose from. read more

Good hotel, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, I've stayed here several times and never had an issue with the room, hotel or staff, it's the only Hilton hotel in the area so it can run out of rooms if booked at the last minute, probably will be coming back here off and on in the foreseeable future :) read more

Hampton Inn McHenry - Home away from home for the past few weeks.... - Hotels Near Me - Mchenry, Illinois

I came here for a long-term stay. There are a few positive things about this place, but far more negative things. Positive: a couple of the staff are genuinely kind and helpful. Also, the shower was good. Negative: Keeping in mind this is during the tail end of the pandemic, and that they are, according to the manager, understaffed, they still have far more issues than they should. Point of fact, I ended up changing hotels, and while they are also understaffed, I have had none of these same issues. Primarily, it was a question of cleanliness. They have a posted rule that weekends they only provide basic cleaning, which is emptying trash cans and giving you fresh towels. No fresh linens. No vacuuming. Nothing else. If you want a full cleaning including fresh linens, you must request it 24 hours in advance, and they only provide the service MTWR. If I was just staying for a weekend, I probably would not have requested service at all. Since, however, I was staying for several weeks, I thought once weekly cleaning of the room, including fresh sheets, would be in order. So on my 7th day, a Tuesday, I requested full service cleaning, at the front desk, for Thursday. More than 24 hours notice. I checked on Wednesday to be sure my room was still on the list for Thursday. It was. Thursday morning, 10am rolled around, and nobody showed up yet. I checked in person at the front desk to be sure someone was coming. Yes, I was on the list, but they couldn't say when because apparently housekeeping makes their own schedules and doesn't tell anyone at the front desk and the front desk is not allowed to inquire (!). I left for the day, and when I returned after 7pm, my room hadn't been touched. I was pretty upset. I called the front desk. They couldn't help me. They couldn't guarantee I would be first on the list in the morning. The next morning, nobody had shown up to clean my room by 9:30, and the front desk had told me they start at 8:30. I went down to get breakfast but first I stopped at the front desk to inquire when my room would be cleaned. Again, the person at the front desk could give me no information. So I said, "Is anybody managing this hotel?" And he got me the hotel manager. I told her my story about having requested a full cleaning 2 days in advance, and now it is Friday, and I think my room should be cleaned. She said "We don't guarantee full cleanings and we don't guarantee any cleanings at all." At this point I started wondering about what the health code violations of that were. I said, "Okay, well, if you can't guarantee my room gets cleaned and the sheets changed once a week, I will just have to request a room change, and then you can clean my previous room at your leisure." She said, "I'm not giving you a room change." I said, "I guess then I will have to call--" I was going to say Hilton Honors Customer Service, but she interrupted me and said, "I don't care who you call. Call whoever you want." Then I said, "Well then I guess I'll have to change hotels." And she said "Go right ahead!" There was a bit more drama after that because I was so astonished at the lack of hospitality in this hospitality business that I actually brought out my camera and asked her to say that again. I never saw a hotel manager run away so fast. Anyway, long story short, I went to a different hotel. I highly recommend any place but here. Edited to add: the beds and pillows here are terrible. Oh, and there was another manager there who hobbited on and on to me about how understaffed he was, and that "people didn't want to work," and that $15/hr was plenty pay for this type of work (clearly it isn't, or he wouldn't be understaffed), and that's why I shouldn't complain when I can't have a clean room. He also accused me of lying about requesting the cleaning on Tuesday, but he had to eat crow when he saw it in black-and-white. He clearly should not be running a hotel, or even be in the hospitality business at all. The ONLY correct reply to, "Hey, I've been here 10 days and I requested clean sheets and housekeeping 3 days ago, can I please have them asap?" is "Yes, of course! I'll take care of that right away." read more

We stayed here to visit some family over the Memorial Day weekend, and we really enjoyed our visit. We booked the hotel through Ebates, which not only offered me a seamless experience, but a killer deal as well. For the hotel itself, the staff seemed quick and efficient (when they were around-- not a bad thing, the hotel just had some slow periods that didn't require a lot of staffing). Our room was clean and it served its purpose! There was a microwave and a mini fridge in the room as well. One of the best highlights for our stay was the free breakfast buffet! Waffles, cereals, eggs potatoes and more! Overall, we had a great experience with the hotel! We will certainly be back! read more

Not many choices for lodging in the McHenry/Woodstock area. We were not happy with our stay at Best Western in Woodstock several months ago and were looking for another option. Hampton Inn met our needs. We stayed two nights -- 6 days apart. Our king room on the third floor the first night was slightly better than our second night when we had a two queen on the second floor. On the second stay, the inn was sold out and we had a handicapped room which was a bit quirky. Some of it seemed modified for a person in a wheel chair, but not entirely. Location is good and we especially liked Marzano's restaurant just across the parking lot. The bathrooms were good sized -- at least compared to Hyatt where we usually stay. While perhaps one should not complain about a "free" breakfast, there was quite a bit lacking in my opinion. The hot dishes should be avoided altogether in my opinion - mainly because they were not hot. DH had the same complaint he always has on the "make it yourself" waffles ... they come out slightly underdone. The pastries were of medium to low quality, although a slice of zuchinni bread was moist and not too bad. The best part was the fresh fruit which was quite tasty on yogurt. On our second stay the strawberries and blueberries were delicious. Coffee "okay." For the price range, the Hampton Inn is a good choice. read more

When you travel as part of your job, nothing makes you feel quite as uneasy as when you are traveling to a more remote area where you know the higher end hotels will not be represented. McHenry, Illinois is such a town. However, McHenry has something special going for it and that is the Hampton Inn. My expectations for a place like the Hampton Inn is that it be clean, my bed comfortable, and that it have working facilities. That's all I expect and by doing so, I'm not as easily disappointed. There is nothing to be disappointed about with this hotel. First of all, the staff is exceptionally friendly. After just a short time, the desk staff got to know me and greeted me by name. Since I was traveling with a group that had been there regularly for almost two years, we were always treated well - our rooms were always ready when we checked in and special requests were fulfilled whenever possible. I always found my room to be clean and comfortable with plenty of power outlets for my computer and phone. In addition, there were several conveniently placed outlets around the room that I could use for the iron when touching up my shirts. The maids always left my room immaculately clean. Although nothing to write home about, a free breakfast is included in your room. They vary the offerings each day, but after a couple of weeks, you get to know the routine. Fortunately, they do offer hot and cold cereals and fruit as well as their daily hot offerings. If I could make one suggestion for improvement it would be to better insulate around the heating/air conditioning unit. During the winter months there was a freezing draft emanating from under the unit which make it impossible to go near without shoes on. (I understand during a major storm some folks even had snow blowing into their rooms.) If work ever brings be back to McHenry, I will be more than happy to stay at the Hampton Inn again. read more

This is a very clean and quiet hotel to stay if you ever find yourself in McHenry, IL. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. My room was clean and well maintained. The maid did an excellent job cleaning the room each day. Also, as the other review stated, there are plenty of electrical outlets in the room for my gadgets. The pool/hot tub and workout rooms are clean and a nice escape after a day of work. The only trick to this place is if you want to head north on IL 31 (towards McHenry and most shopping/food) you need to go out the back way of the hotel to a nearby light. read more

I used to work at this location and it has the best staff I've had the pleasure to work with! I've worked in different hotels in the years past but this was by far the most gracious group of people to call colleagues. This Hampton goes above and beyond when it comes to guest relations and hospitality! The GM Tina and sales director Julie are absolute sweethearts and there isn't a request they can't fulfill. My parents stay here whenever they're in town. Again, I'm long gone out of the industry but I've been able to stop in now and then and it's still the great place I remember it was when I worked here. read more

Honestly I can only say good things about this Hampton property. There are certain things you expect when you stay at a Hampton: a clean room, a modest price, and a hot breakfast. This location checked all those boxes and had a lot of recent updates. There were at least 2 wedding parties staying here while I was here so breakfast was packed. The staff managed to keep all the food stocked and all the coffee containers full. If I'm ever in need of a hotel again in this area I'd quickly select this location and I'll continue to book Hampton Inns whenever I travel. read more

We were in town for a wedding and this was the recommended wedding hotel. I called ahead to request early check in, which of course they said couldn't be guaranteed, but it wasn't an issue when we arrived about an hour prior to the official time of 3pm. They had a shuttle arranged to take us to and from the venue, and there were signs on the front desk with the times as well as a sign-up sheet for the outbound shuttle. We were also given a gift bag from the couple when we checked in. The room itself was very nice, and shockingly spacious -- I'm guessing it was an accessible room. My only complaint is that there was a nice charging station on one nightstand, but not the other. The boyfriend never did find an outlet on his side, so he did without. Internet is free, but you have to log in with your name and room number (and are of course offered an upgrade, for a fee). The business center had pretty pokey internet, but it did the job for my very brief computer needs. Overall, Hampton more than met our needs for a clean, comfortable room, and the wedding rate was very good considering how new this property is. I'd stay here again. read more

My mom and I live in an apartment and it caught on fire 10/3/20 so we went to this hotel to stay and we have a service dog they asked to see proof which is fine so we did and they gave us a room key two nights later we had to re check in until November 5th because of insurance so we did while we were at the front deck the manager Julie was super nice talking to us saying how sorry she was about our house, then we get back to the room not even 5 minutes later the General Manager, Aleesh, knocked on the door and told us there was no dogs allowed we told him she was a service dog he said he needed to see proof we told him we showed proof when we checked in but he said nope HE needed to see so we showed him and right away he says nope your dog isn't a service dog, that he has doggie daycares we can take her too, well no she's my moms service dog she can't be without her. So he practically said too bad and we had to leave. Not nice about it very rude not caring that we have no where to sleep or go for that fact. We will make sure that everyone knows this and this is a horrible way to run a business turning down people that need service dogs in their lives. read more

The Hampton Inn seemed clean enough, though my room had an overpowering odor from cleaning agents. I'd get it if I checked in around noon, but this was at 6 p.m. The next unpleasant surprise was that there was nowhere to hang my clothes. There was just a dresser in my double-queen room. This really baffled me. Even cheap places like Red Roof Inn have a couple of hangers and an iron Both beds in my room made strange creaking noises with the slightest motion, because they seemed to be anchored to the wall. Neither bed was comfortable, but they were clean. Hopefully, the creaking didn't bother my neighbor, but given how often I heard normal volume voices in the adjacent room, I doubt they didn't hear me. The mini-mart area was reasonably stocked with chips and pop, but not a drop of beer or liquor. Lame. I get that Hampton Inn is a budget-conscious place to sleep, but so's the Courtyard, which feels like a luxury hotel by comparison. Sadly, the closest courtyard is about 20 miles away. read more

Ok hotel, we arrived late due to our flight being delayed. The lady at the front desk could not find my reservation and proceeded to tell me they were fully booked. Insert a moment of panic here as I had no idea where we would go if our reservation couldn't be found. She found it and the room was nice but not the one we needed. I booked well in advance of trip and arrival and advised of my special needs companion(walks with assistance, no stairs, can use elevator, walker/wheelchair) and what do we get a room on the 4th floor that is a standard 2 queen room, at the end of the hallway from they elevator. Mind you I advised walks with assistance, walker/wheelchair. My sister books a room for one night on the fly and what does she get? The handicap room we needed on the 2nd floor. Guess the staff here doesn't read the special requirements in the comment section when a guest books in advance. Hmmm, will be reconsidering this the next time I need a hotel. read more

Ever since coming here a few years ago we never ran into an issue with the services. Until this year 2019 with the acting front desk man named Michael made us felt unwanted and being discriminated against. Told us we had to pay before hand or be locked out of our room. We do have the money that's not the point it's the way he went about it. I will contact the corporate office as well as my attorney. It's time to end this type of treatment to clients or consumers that pay and help the community. read more

My 89 year old Mom came from Texas and due to some physical limitations (Eye sight & Stairs ) could not stay in our home during her weeks stay. I chose the Hampton Inn McHenry for the proximity to my home and the hotels amenities (24 hour coffee & breakfast each day) All Hampton Inn Mchenry Staff including the GM , Front desk & Housekeeping team .......... Outstanding !!!!!!!!!!!!! I was really nervous for her not to stay with us and they recognized she did have some special needs . They went the extra mile each & everyday to make sure she was safe & comfortable, and kept me informed how she was doing They gave her a 1st floor room , 3 suites away from the front desk just to "keep an eye on her" for me til I arrived each day. Cant say thanks enough Rate was fair from Booking.com , but the piece of mind far out weighed the cost. I had a two-night reservation. I came back to my room this afternoon, for my second night, and all of my property was gone from my room. Mind you, they had charged my credit card for both nights. The guy working the front desk said that they assumed I had decided to not stay a second night because very few of my belongings were left in the room. I asked why nobody took the time to inform me that someone had removed my property (around $50 in electronics and a helium balloon I was supposed to bring to an event later). He had no answer. Had I not asked about my property, they would've kept it. I travel a lot, and I have never had hotel staff make an arbitrary decision to take/steal everything I had in my room, and not notify me that they've done that. I asked to speak to the manager of the hotel, and I was told that the General Manager, Tina Fierros, wouldn't be able to address the issue until Monday (today is Saturday). I guess if you want to stay at this hotel, lock your valuables in your car. read more

We booked this hotel for our guests to stay at for our wedding. From the beginning to the end, our expectations were not only met, but were by far exceeded. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. My bridesmaids and I needed a handicapped room to get ready in, but we were told that room wasn't quite big enough for the group, so a member of the staff set us up in a bigger room but was going to allow us access to the handicapped room for the bathroom. Our shuttle service (from somewhere else) didn't show up for our guests until 2:50 for a 3:00 wedding. The manager of the hotel saw what was happening, and started driving our guests to the wedding himself, taking multiple trips and ensuring all our guests arrived. My now-husband and I didn't find out about any of this until our guests told us around 10pm. We both could not be more grateful. I have always liked Hampton Inn but at this point we will make it our go-to hotel when available. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the McHenry Hampton Inn. We are extremely pleased and grateful. read more
