Overall, a good place to stay in Colby. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the breakfast wasn't all that bad when compared to other Hampton Inn breakfasts. Also, it's not too far from local restaurants in town and easy access to the interstate. Nothing special but wish they had some chairs to sit on outside.

    Bug in our bathroom

Any bugs will give any hotel a one star rating in my opinion. If this one exists, there will be more in other rooms as well.

    Sink that did not drain

Generally Hampton Inn's are comfortable places to stay when traveling cross country. You generally know what to expect and you get that. Not here. While the room was comfortable enough, everything else was below expectations. The bathroom sink took several hours to drain. Standing water was common. The shower did not drain well either. In the room, all but one of the electrical sockets had a cover plate over them. I found the one remaining plug behind the TV and dresser, which I had to physically move in order to plug my laptop in. That also meant moving the desk. The hotel staff was not very friendly and when I pointed out the areas needing maintenance, got a curt response, we will take it for action. If you visit Colby, my advise is try one of the other motels/hotels.

Way overpriced. Told me one price then charged a higher price. Cost to value is not worth it, and the hot breakfast tasted like nothing

The room was fine, breakfast was above average. But the common area floors are dirty and there is a bottleneck at the elevator area.

Extraordinarily friendly staff, modern decor, spotless, and the best breakfast you'll find at a hotel. They nailed it for us.

We then checked out a Super 8 across the street that was listed as pet-friendly but was so scary and poorly lit from the outside that it gave Bates Motel vibes. Cue Sleep Inn Colby, whose upcharge for our two dogs was a reasonable $20. There's abundant parking in a well-lit lot, the lobby is nice, the clerk was pleasant (and gave us a first-floor room at the end of a long, quiet hall), the wifi worked, the bed was blessedly comfortable, the room was clean, the luggage carts worked, the breakfast was solid, and I got a long and restful night's sleep prior to another 700+ miles of driving the following day. Chain hotels are usually poorly reviewed on Yelp, often for things beyond the hotel's control, because people have different travelling styles, schedules, and habits, and the other guests often end up annoying you. So maybe I'm grading up a little here, but I can say that I would certainly stay here again.

Well, whatever, so I go in and tell the desk clerk (who I'm pretty sure is also the owner) that I made a reservation. He interoogates me about pets (which were alreay on the reservation) and then says that I didn't list a second guest, and that would be an additional $15. This is absurd, of course, and I haven't heard on any M6 doing this for a long time, and it was usually like $3 or $5 back when they did. I ask him what if I just take the walkup rate and then add a guest instead, and he tells me that would be the same price, even though of course it would not and he's simply lying to me at that point. So I go outside to talk to my spouse and then come back to begrudgingly agree to this shakedown. I'm then told that dogs are not allowed on the bed and that there would be a cleaning fee if they were. This is, of course, both beyond insane and a clear viloation of the "pets stay free" policy that the company stands behind overall--there's nothing in the fine print about keeping them locked in a crate while in the room with their people, or anything like that. At least--and this is important--he did agree to cancel my reservation and let me walk at that point when I was like, no deal. If you want to be nickel and dimed until a budget motel costs the same as a better brand with more services, please by all means come here and be cheated by this deeply dishonest and unpleasant man.

Water shoots out of the sink and splashes you if you turn it on all the way. No shampoo/conditioner just bar soap. For a one night stay it was bearable but if we were staying more than one night, definitely not the move.
