Don't say you've not been warned! The hallways were incredibly LOUD at 11:30 pm. We notified the front desk and were told it would have to wait they weee too busy. To make matters worse, their staff would arrive at 5:19 am each morning. They were very loud in the hallway too. We were there for 2 nights and the 2nd night was no better even after notifying the front desk several times. Two of the outlets in the bathroom didn't work, holes in the wall where a piece of wood used to hang, chips in the tub and very lumpy pillows. We have never stayed in such a run down Hampton Inn. read more

I just want to preface this with.. I don't leave bad reviews, even when I have bad experiences I don't leave bad reviews, but this was the worst hotel experience I've ever had and after several months of it wearing on me I decided I needed to warn people. We arrived early evening, dropped our bags and went out to dinner, when we got back, we were very tired from travelling so we went straight to bed. In the middle of the night I woke up to pee and noticed several bites up and down my arm. I turned on all the lights and immediately started looking in the bed sheets. Almost instantly i found a very well fed bed bug, and i smashed it - totally engorged in blood. We went to the lobby and reported this to the guy at the counter who called a manager, he assured us our room would be taken care of however they had no other rooms available. So we got trash bags and bagged all our belongings and then waited several hours in the lobby for Walmart to open so we could go spend 150 dollars on new clothes and shoes to wear so we could isolate the exposed clothing and luggage. This was particularly annoying because we were travelling and supposed to be stopping that next day at my sister's who has two small kids... so that visit was cancelled. So when the morning shift arrived the mood suddenly shifted. The morning manager took an incredibly accusatory tone claiming we were making this up, and insinuating we were trying to scam them. I provided evidence of both the dead bug and bites all over my arm, they left to search the room and came back and said they found nothing, then i showed them the pictures i took of the nest of grime, detritus and bug feces underneath the furniture. At this point they took our information and said they would be issuing and mailing a check to us. It's been 6 months. However we did get a phone call a few weeks later and were yelled at for contacting corporate offices. This place is a health hazard and NOBODY should EVER stay here unless management changes and the whole place is treated. read more

This Hampton Inn is in need of a refresh. It looks beaten up in the hallways. I noticed that housekeeping services are on an every other day basis and the room showed it. The surfaces were dusty and the carpet needed a deep clean. It was very hot out but the pool was murky and not inviting. It looks like this location is short staffed and the staff there was were not very enthusiastic or friendly. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast ample. read more

There was an issue with check in, partly on my corporate travel agent side, my flight was cancelled and rebooked for the following day. They rebooked the hotel for the new dates (I have the confirmation), but upon arrival she said I was marked as a no-show. Then said I was now in a smoking room. I said I cannot do that, but she seemed like I choose it. I reiterated I cannot stay in smoking, she moved me, but if the room was available not sure what the initial push back was. Then when I got to the room wifi didn't work. I called down and they said it must be my issue. She literally was telling me there is nothing she can do. This is a business trip, I cannot go without wifi. I advised that I know how to connect to wifi and I thought to ask what the original room number was that I should have been in, with reluctance, and conviction that I was wrong about my assumption that it was possibly what the wifi issue was she finally gave it to me, and it worked. The wifi was still reflecting the other room to allow me permission to connect. I tried breakfast the first morning, the hot foods were pretty empty at 7:30AM, I had a bagel but didn't like that the cream cheese was room temperature. I gave up doing breakfast the rest of my stay. The smells on my floor were horrible, between cigarette smoke and BO I was super disgusted and had to hold my breath coming and going from my room. Thank goodness it didn't enter the room. I would have left. The upside, location and there was a kind gentleman doing maintenance around the site. He was friendly...but I won't be back. I'm disappointed because I will be coming back and forth to the area for a few years, being a Hilton member, this is one of the few in the area. Leaving the obligatory 1 star as required. I was supposed to stay for 3 nights. Hampton Hotels are usually good. Upon checking in and getting into my room, I was surprised at how poorly it was cleaned, Showerhead looked like it was ready to fall out of the wall, dark brown stain on the sink countertop, carpeting smelled. I immediately went to front desk and asked for a different room. That one was even worse. It looked like a fight had happened in the room. Lampshades hanging sideways, dirty carpet, smelled like body odor. I went back to front desk and said I'll keep the original room and cancelled the other 2 nights. The desk clerk said she'd discount the room. The hotel is noisy (truck traffic due to highway so close), kids partying until late at night. There was a homeless encampment in the back parking lot that has been there for some time. When I came back for the evening there were parties in the parking lot. When I told the night desk clerk, they said, "I should go out there and join them." When I checked out, I said we didn't enjoy our stay. The discount they gave me was $8. If I am ever near this hotel again and need to stop for the night, I'll sleep in my car on the side of the highway. read more

Dear Hilton Corporate: If you are looking for an exemplary employee to rapidly promote up the ranks in your organization, look no further than Dahama the night manager at the Hampton Inn in Clinton, NJ. She is the exemplar of hospitality, just a brilliant exemplar of hospitality and customer service. When we checked in, Dahama was wearing a brilliant amazing technicolor sweater, and engaged with my wife about the joy of this wonderful garment. She helped us to pick out a room that we would like, and we dropped our bag before visiting relatives about 10 minutes away from the hotel. My brother in law and I both drive EVs. When we returned to the hotel about 10:00 p.m., we found a Hyundai parked straddling two EV parking spaces, blocking both Tesla destination chargers. I snapped a photo of the offending vehicle, and went to the desk. My experience with hotels in the past have been less than satisfactory, receiving a shrug of the shoulders and a response in the neighborhood of "what do you want me to do about it." Not Dahama. When she saw the photo, she said she thought she remembered the person with that car. She looked up the person, called the room, called the cell phone, and called the room again. The owner of the car answered the phone, and came out to move the car away from the chargers. As an EV driver, I often choose a hotel based on the presence of an EV charger. The availability of a charger at an overnight stop saves 30-45 minutes when you get started the next day. You can't do any more to build customer loyalty than to have someone as observant and thoughtful as Dahama at your hotel. While I love having her at the front desk, I will understand your wise corporate decision were you to promote her to a vice president in charge of customer relations. read more

Save yourself the trouble and don't book a stay here. Paul checked us in at 3pm and our first assigned room had ants crawling all over the desk and blood stains inside the sheets and comforter. I went to the lobby and had the room reassigned. Zeus warned me ahead of time that it will be noisy because lots of children were staying on the 4th floor. He wasn't kidding. I had zero sleep that evening from constant running in the hallway and doors slamming. The walls are thin and you can hear everything from the room next to you --bathroom door opening and closing, TV noise, conversations, microwave. You name it, you'll hear it. The second assigned room was marginally cleaner but not by much. It was the difference between no ants on the table and no blood stains inside the bed. The sofa had crusty white runny stains. YUCK. Don't want to think about what caused it. The dresser drawers had crumbs and putrid odors. Definitely best not to put your clothes or anything in it. Well, not unless you like sour vomit stink imparted onto your clothes so you too can smell like vomit all day in humid August heat! The bathroom countertop had brown ring stains and the shelves were disgusting underneath. And crumbs just about everywhere--desk, night stands, coffee table, carpet. The HVAC unit needs some thorough cleaning. It was somewhat of a miracle I didn't have an asthma attack. When I walked outside to get some of my luggage, I witnessed an older housekeeping staff throwing a nasty tantrum in the hallway smashing trash into the trash can placed on the cleaning cart. Her colleague walked by and didn't even ask her if she's ok or need help. Instead, she walked outside to join her friends smoking cigarettes in their housekeeping uniforms. It's utterly unprofessional to not only be smoking with their uniforms on but to speak ill about customers and work environment within earshots of other customers and children playing right nearby. Given how frustrated the other housekeeper was inside and two other housekeepers too busy smoking outside to gossip, I could understand why the rooms and corridors looked so dingy and just disgusting. Anyhow, as if the lack of cleanliness alone was bad enough, around 9pm, I had a complete stranger unlock the door and come inside! My dogs were hysterical and I was hysterical because I was about to fall asleep. Apparently, the front desk staff, Paul failed to update in the system that we had a room reassignment due to ants infestation in the originally assigned room. He not only feigned ignorance of the fact that there was a room reassignment at 3pm because of ants infestation but blamed Zeus for making a mistake of giving the incorrect room keys to us. Paul also proceeded to attempt MOVING US BACK INTO THE ANTS INFESTED ROOM. That's right! Paul attempted to get us back into the room with ants so the other customer can take our reassigned room. So my husband asked to get COMPED after this whole fiasco and Paul completely refused. He said that we'd have to wait to speak to the manager on Monday when she's back in office. Yeah sure ok. Don't think so. We checked out asap the next morning and never looked back. This Hampton Inn is a disgrace. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND unless there's no other lodging options available whatsoever. As my husband put it, he'd rather be deployed and sleep on a ship or sleep in the car overnight. And to me, that speaks volumes. read more

Very old property. Holes in doors, old paint, vintage feel that is not inviting. Fan was inoperable and room was super hot. No business center or ability to print a document (I asked and was prompted to a UPS store across the street). Good enough for one night's stay but that's it. Had a problem yesterday. I spent 2 nights here and booked a third for yesterday thru CLC lodging but some how it booked 2 rooms. 5 hours after booking I went to check in. I told receptionist and manager I don't not need two rooms. I am by myself, but manager said I have to pay for two rooms. I asked her how outrageous that sounds like evidently clearly there was a glitch issue, but she insisted for me to pay for a second room. They said they need at least 48 hour notice when I do the math it was five hours. Needless to say, I left without checking in I will not return and I am failing this hotel. I can't believe they act like this is a Third World country I also put a complaint in with Hilton honors. read more

The parking lot has ample spaces. The pool area (though closed fir the season) and grounds around it were well maintained. Check in was reasonably quick and problem free. A helpful friendly staff member. They had quite a few hand sanitizer units throughout the hotel. We had a very impressive room. Nicely decorated, modern/updated, very comfortable beds, beautiful bedspread and clean in all areas. We couldn't figure out how to work the heating unit however, but calling the front desk (who answered immediately and was very polite) we found out the control box was on the wall and not on the unit itself (they should have a sign on the unit explaining that). The bathroom was updated but slightly worn in minimal areas (mirror frame from water). Shower had good water pressure and water adjusted well to be not too hot or cold (like the issues I have at home). There was lots of counter space as well as wall hooks to hang towels and clothing items. The air vent in there worked well too to keep it odor free. The lobby was very appealing and clean too. Their included breakfast buffet was impressive with various juices, waffles, eggs, sausage, yogarts, cereals, fruit, coffees, etc. read more

Our three night stay started off on a high note when we arrived early evening last Sunday and were greeted by the professional, friendly. efficient and (dare I say it?) adorable George at the front desk. The highest compliment we can pay an employee is they work like they own the business and so it was / is with George. They should give him a raise! The day time staff have been equally friendly and efficent. Two small problems with the room were taken care of immediately and without any inconvenience to us thanks to them. Staff highlights shared above, as for the property it is a few years old but aging gracefully thanks to what seems to be care paid to maintenance. Very clean and in good repair from the small lobby through guest rooms to guest facilities, like the laundry room. Beds and pillows are ultra comfy. Bathrooms well appointed. Everything is quiet for a good nighr's sleep. Also accessibility is good in general at this property if you're paying attention to that important element. True to the Hampton branding, there is a free breakfast each morniing including fruit, yogurt, cereal, hot food like scrambled eggs, toast, muffins and juice. Conveniently located with easy access to routes 31 and 78 and close to charming downtown Clinton with a few shops and restaurants. Bottom line is we'd gladly stay here again. read more

I made a reservation here 4 Sept on a trip that took me down I-78, thinking that Hampton Inns are usually consistent and decent quality. I arrived at 10:15 PM to find about 5 customers waiting to check in but the front desk staff had apparently disappeared about a hour before, never to be found. Calls to Hilton Corporate only resulted in them calling the abandoned front desk and they were no help in finding management or allowing a cancellation or rebooking. (No surprise, this is the only stay that didn't receive a survey for). One customer called the local police to search and make sure nothing had happened to the staff. Waiting in the lobby, I could see the hotel was dated and not maintained especially well. The upholstered chairs we waited in were worn and dirty with a layer of grime on the arms. I finally checked in after the 11PM shift arrived. They were friendly and helpful but offered no compensation for our trouble. The room was dated, furniture worn but okay. The bed was comfortable and bathroom looked clean but smelled of urine none the less. The tap water was not good at all, to the point that I didn't want to shower in the morning. (Not the hotels fault if municipal but I wouldn't stay there again). Opening the in-room coffee maker, there was mold in the reservoir. With this development and the general condition of things, I decided not to risk a shower, the breakfast or even morning coffee and got the heck out of there. Checking out, I asked about the staff the prior evening, mentioned the coffee maker, etc and received a somewhat indifferent response. Hilton can do better and I can't recommend staying at this property. read more

Worst experience I've ever had a hotel. Hotel was dirty. When I went to check in I was told the computers were down and I would have to wait. Then I was told I would be charged $25.00 for early check in. I have stayed at 100s of hotels all over the world. NEVER have I been charged for an early check in. I am a Diamond member and I was treated like this, couldn't imagine how I would have been treated if I wasn't their top tier customer. I stay here every time I visit my family in NJ. I love it here for so many reasons. The room are large and always clean. The staff is very friendly and the location is within walking distance of cracker barrel if you want some breakfast, lunch, or dinner near by. Its also very close to Walmart if you want to grab some waters or essential you may have forgotten to pack. The hotel also has some beautiful views of the surrounding area. There is a pool you can enjoy in the summer and a small garden area where you can enjoy the outdoors. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast that is pretty good. You can have anything from eggs and bacon to waffles. They also offer yogurts and cereal varieties. Coffee and tea is served all day. Overall I really enjoy this hotel it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. read more

Traveler beware! Believe the bad reviews. This location is very shady. They tried to scam us out of over $200. We booked through hotels.com months ahead of time. When we arrived we were told that our reservation had been cancelled. We had not cancelled. Hotels.com confirmed they did not cancel. The hotel was "nice" enough to give us a room for the night but would not discuss the rate. When we checked out we were not given a receipt. We were told they do not print them and one would be emailed. It never arrived. Checking our credit card bill we were charged a higher rate for the room PLUS a $200 fee for late cancellation! A couple of weeks of calling the hotel and Hilton and I'm still trying to get our money back. When you call the hotel, the manager either puts you on eternal hold or promises to call you back and never does. SCAMMERS! As for the hotel itself, it's one of the dingier Hampton Inn's that I have stayed in. The carpets in the room were gross - bring flip-flops. Staff are rude and unhelpful. There is no cleaning service so don't throw your towels on the floor and expect them to be replenished (thankfully we kept one clean one). I also felt unsafe parking my car in the handicap spaces since the staff does not police the partying on the patio and a group of kids were allowed to hit golf balls with wiffle ball bats at 10 at night directly in front of the handicap spaces! All, this is a Hampton Inn, Hilton's entry level property. So, you should not expect the royal treatment or very classy rooms. This is a basic hotel with a few niceties. First, they are very friendly and concerned that you enjoy your stay. It felt a little contrived, but they called my room each day to make sure I was getting everything I needed. They let you know when you check in they have a "100% guarantee". (I'm not really sure what that means.) They have a free breakfast. While this is nice, it was worth about what they charged for it. But, it was nice to be able to sit in the lobby to work while having a cup of coffee and what must have a been a poor excuse for a bagel. Unfortunately, they had three or four TVs in the room all blaring Fox news. It's not that I dislike Fox, but there could have been some options. The room was fairly small, but I really didn't spend much time in it anyway. It looked clean, but there was a musty smell that was disconcerting. But, in Clinton, NJ, there are not a lot of hotel options. I've stayed at the Holiday Inn before in Clinton, and the Hampton Inn wins hands down. read more

Stayed here for two weeks at full price. Within one week we encountered management screaming at employees for mistakes made, police in lobby " not concerning us" but not really appealing. Every time I'm in the lobby all you hear is people complaining about how they want their money back. Our room was fairly decent but service at this hotel is barely existent. We didn't receive clean linen for a week and half, and had to hunt housekeeping down. I would not recommend this hotel unless you are desperate. read more

The last time I was here the place was getting a new floor and it was a mess! This time I was expecting a better stay and was very pleasantly surprised at the upgrades and lovely decor of the lobby. This unexpected improvement carried into the room. Are all Hampton Inns upgrading or just this one? This is a fantastic hotel. Our rooms were clean and very comfortable. We asked to check in early to attend a family party and our request was easily accomodated. The rate we got on their website was excellent and a great value! But best of all was their customer service. This Hampton In promises a free complimentary breakfast from 6-10am but I'm sitting here at 8:30 with a cup of cold coffee and there is nothing to eat. I find this completely unsay at $180/night which alone is rediculous. The house staff throw major attitude. When asked about this. I give this hotel a two star only because it's near civilization and I am able to find elsewhere to eat. That makes two states in two days I am happy to never visit again. New York and New Jersey. The first because they are content with murdering the elderly, the latter because it's nothing but extortion central USA. Cannot wait to get back home to a freedom loving nation like Texas. Stayed here over the weekend for a wedding and couldn't be happier. I checked in with a group of 5 (some of whom are quite difficult to deal with). They accommodated every crazy request that was made, even at 2 in the morning! I left my laptop in the room and didn't realize it until I was at the airport, and the staff took the time and care to ship it to me safely overnight! Very much recommended if you are visiting Clinton. Also, super close to everything and plenty of parking! read more

Clean, comfortable room and pet friendly. There were a lot of kids staying at the hotel so the lobby was loud and people were cracking open beers, but our room was very quiet. Plenty of parking and the free breakfast was tasty (especially the little cheesecake bites!!). Felicia at the front desk was incredibly helpful and went out of her way to help us contact the local police department after being in a car accident. She really changed our whole day! No one stays at a Hampton Inn expecting the Ritz Carlton, but this really is a solid place for this level of hotel. We'd absolutely stay again! read more

This place is nice! This is the first Hampton Inn I've stayed at that looks this nice on the inside. The lobby is new and fresh and I can do my work at the big table with outlets. The rooms are even nicer. Last time I stayed at this hotel was a couple of years ago and it's clear that they completely upgraded the hotel to make it look brand new and modern. The staff was so friendly and caring and asked me if I needed anything. The breakfast was excellent and I like Hampton's new breakfast selection. I stay at hotels all the time and this place feels like home because of the staff. There's also a hiking trail behind the hotel which I like to walk along every morning before I head out for the day. There's a creek that runs along the trail and it takes you into the quaint little downtown area that seems very historic. Try the chinese takeout place in the walmart plaza above the hotel. You will not be disappointed. I also like to get dinner from the Cracker Barrel next door when it's cold like today. read more

I'd say this is average in quality. I couldn't tell that the place was renovated? Nothing looked modern to me. The ad said there are microwaves and fridges in each room but mine had neither. We didn't need them though, but good to note not every room has them. I was on a non-smoking section but you could still smell smoke in the hall. Not in the room. The room itself was fine but didn't look new or anything. We were in an end corner unit with windows on two sides. The bed was comfortable and there were lots of toiletries. The room was clean. The breakfast in the morning was good. There was a variety of pastries, cereals, oatmeals and bread products. There was a selection of fruit too. I was very satisfied. There was even a make-your-own-waffle stand with easy instructions. The front desk was very nice. The big thrill for me is that I got a coupon to stay there for $70. I was pleased with my stay for what it was worth. We came up here one night to attend a bat mitzvah the next day. read more

Where do I begin? After calling a month ahead to set reservations, we arrived early to find that they never booked it. The day after we checked in, we had to change rooms because ours was infested with fleas. The next morning we were rudely awoken by a carbon monoxide detector alarm. The cleaning ladies said it was from the drier. The next morning, we were again woken up by the alarm--this time with no explanation. Last night, the alarm went off just before one in the morning. And it went off again this morning at about six. There have been no explanations or apologies for these instances. Never mind the lack of designated smoking areas (which would eliminate the poolside air contamination). Never mind the fact that the cleaning ladies left our room open after cleaning--basically allowing anyone who pleased to enter. Never mind that the lobby smells like urine or that there is an over abundance of moisture in the room because of poor quality AC systems (and this is coming from a visitor from Hawaii). And never mind the coffee grinds which they just constantly pour water over instead of making fresh coffee. This hotel is absolutely horrible in just about every aspect and you couldn't pay me to stay again. read more

It's kinda pricey but better than the Holiday Inn in Clinton, so the extra money spent might be worth it to you. Rooms were smallish but clean. Comfy beds. Their cable tv channel is the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel. The only drawback is they don't serve food or drink. Still, an overall good experience read more
