I have stayed at many Hampton Inns across the country and my experience has been very similar and positive most of the time. Staff is always friendly, willing to help and always greet you when you come into the lobby. The continental breakfast is a big reason why I choose Hampton along with the more affordable accommodations compared to other Hilton brands. The experience was no different for the Hampton Inn and Bangor with the exception of the wait time to get our room. Check-In is as 3:00pm and my family and I were not able to get into the room till 4:00pm. I am a Hilton Honors member, checked in the day before and despite all that effort spent an hour in the lobby area waiting for the room to be ready. Non-Hilton members were walking into the lobby whose rooms were ready. I know this because the front desk staff asked them if they would be interested in becoming members during their check-in process. We eventually got up to around room 1 hour later, but only because I got notification on my phone of my digital key being ready. The staff was not the one's who notified us. When I provided my feedback in their email survey, I got the typical response that said sorry and they hope we give them another chance, but my feedback will help improve. They did nothing to compensate me for the 1 hour less of room time I got but paid for. I can empathize with businesses who are short-staffed and the difficulty of hiring quality individuals to fill key customer-facing roles or support staff who make up all the other departments who make a business like a hotel function from day-to-day. I work for a bank, and we too have difficulty hiring quality talent or those willing to go above and beyond just the expected responsibilities. read more

We stopped off here while on our way to Canada. It happened to be half way from where we were vacationing in NH and where we wanted to go in Canada. We were very tired and pretty much crashed when we got here. But, the next morning on our way out of town we stopped off at Stephen Kings house (about 5 miles away) for pictures. That was a highlight. Then we stopped off at an old bakery and convenience store in Brewer, just down the road a couple of miles. On our way back out of Canada we booked this hotel again. It is one of the cheapest of the Hilton family in the area and we actually booked the same room again. This time I was a little more alert and noticed that they had Netflix! After traveling for almost 3 weeks I was having a little Netflix withdrawal. I got excited and my husband, who had a restaurant picked out for dinner laughed and said "I guess that means we're eating pizza in tonight". YES! This is one of the nicer Hampton Inns we have stayed at. It has a walkin shower and a higher toilet-both helpful when you have an injured hip and knee. The breakfast were good too. read more

One of the first things I do when arriving at my hotel room is check the air filters on the HVAC (if accessible). This is partly because I want to know what I'm breathing in a sealed room and partly because it gives me an indicator of the maintenance level of the facility. On several occasions, the filters have been so filthy that I have washed them in the shower. However, I have never seen air filters as clean as at this Hampton Inn. Either these folks are really good at maintenance or this machine was installed quite recently. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and award them 5 stars for facility maintenance. However, I have to dock them star for not offering us bottled water when we arrived, which is usual for an Honor members at Hampton Inns. They also didn't have any water for sale in cooler, just soda. We were parched and had to drink unknown tap water in a strange city. The next day, as I sat reading in the lobby and saw another couple check in, they were offered water. So, it's not that this Hampton Inn doesn't provided water, just not to me. Other than these two deviations, this was just like every other Hampton Inn, which is good and which is why I stay there. read more

Nice hotel, good staff, clean and the climate control was excellent. The breakfast was ok, nothing great, but had some options on the self serve front. It would be nicer if the restaurant/lounge could be open for drinks at some point. I did ask to have my receipt emailed, and even checked a second time when we walked out. This was our 2nd stay here. First was fine although there was some mixup with a cancellation we had to make due to Hurricane Lee. 2nd stay was abysmal. Arrived after a long drive from Canada. Room smelled like a dog. Husband thought was just musty. Laid down to take a nap and woke up covered in bites. The bed was flea infested. After closer inspection it appeared someone let their dog sleep on the bed. Pillows smelled and sheets were dirty. They moved us to a "suite" which was just a handicap accessible room that had barely any water pressure out of the handheld shower. Very very dissatisfied and felt we should not have been charged for the stay. Disgusting!! read more

The rooms are clean. The check-in was fine though did not receive any welcome gift. It's nice to get free breakfast. It was what one would expect. The employees staffing the breakfast were clearly working hard. The Wi-Fi sucks and the television lineup is minimal. This morning, while I was still sleeping, an employee began vacuuming the hall outside my door. Cigarette butts litter the grounds. It's disgusting. Overall it's a very nice place. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly. However there was repeated confusion at the front desk. When we tried checking in we had to place a phone call to get the original credit card number from the deposit; in the process the front desk attendant just walked away without informing the next attendant what was going on. This led to us not getting our keycards without having to ask. That was not such an issue until we attempted to get onto the hotel's wifi service and had to call the front desk for help because he never checked us in! On the second night our keycards wouldn't work; come to find out it was because we were checked out for some odd reason. Not a bad place but they definitely could use some help with their front desk service and keeping the customer experience smooth and hassle-free. read more

First off, this hotel offered the most reasonable price around, and the young man at the front desk offered us the managers discount as well. Rooms are exceptionally clean, and the beds are so comfortable. They have a lovely pool at hot tub, and the hot breakfast was so good. Located in a rather weird location, this Hampton Inn is tucked behind an auto dealership across from another Hilton. We stayed in the Marriott Courtyard previously, which is in a random plaza with a Skate Park across the road. Aside from location, which wasn't so bad as it provided convenient access to the highway, the HI was a win all around. Check in was quick and painless. We arrived at 10pm and though the front desk was friendly, I felt that they could have been more professional. There were 3 of them at the front and a joke here and there is great, but the goofing off was a bit much. The room was EXTREMELY spacious! I could have pulled out the sofa bed and put in another queen with room to spare. The room was clean and everything was rather new. The bed was a bit firm for a normal person, but I'm wonky so the firm bed was A-OK with me. Towels were average, not the soft thick towels that the Marriott chain provides. Bathroom size was also more than adequate. I did notice some mildew buildup on the corners next to the sliding glass doors. Not horrendous, but noticeable. Housekeeping also haphazardly threw the towels on the shelf and did not replace empty tissue bin. Again, nothing major, but it's the little things that turn it from average to great. The free breakfast was fab! The 3 ladies working breakfast were always moving and working hard to replenish items. Good selections and it was a nice touch to not see just scrambled eggs in the hot section. The nightly cookies were soft, perfectly round delicious morsels. Booked online for a Thursday night on our way to Canada thinking we were simply getting 2 queen beds for a reasonable price. We were very happy to see that there was also a pull out couch! Even better was that when we were going back through Bangor late Saturday night, we tried to get the same room, at the same rate, but was told it was not available, but that they could put us in a room with the couch and a king size bed. However, when we arrived, they had managed to get us the same room as on Thursday! What great service. Thank you Colby! Only down side was that the swimming pool was way too hot. The beds were very comfortable. The place was immaculately clean. There is a wonderful swimming pool with a hot tub for relaxing. I would not consider staying any place else in Bangor. Our room and the general upkeep of the hotel was very clean and impressive. This is the one of the worst Hotels ever. Why? No where on their website does it say NO PETS. I always stay at Hampton Inn Hotels, and so when my sister in law booked our rooms she never asked about the policy. We arrived after a long drive to Bangor for a funeral the following day. Due to many events going on in Bangor, most hotels were booked up! We arrived and were told we could not stay there, because we have a Yorkie. They do not allow dogs, except "service" animals. I told her I would get a vet to send me a certificate showing he's a comfort animal. The manager wanted to know what it was he supposedly did for me. I said he provides comfort. She said, "well, we don't allow comfort animals". I showed them there is nothing on their website showing they have a no pets policy. They all were smug, and would not allow us to stay. While they did offer to provide a list of "Kennels" where our 8 pound dog could be "boarded", when I pressed for the list they would not provide it. Most people say, I should have simply not mentioned the dog. Since he's so small, and doesn't bark, no one would know. To this I say, no, I never do that. But, in the future from now on, I won't be so generous with sharing this information. This hotel put us in a great disadvantage. We had trouble finding a room, and when we did, it was at a dive. The only kind of hotels in Bangor that apparently take pets. I thought ALL Hampton Inn's were pet friendly! Well, the manager said, no, they are all independently operated and they can make their own rules! So much for customer service...I wish I could give them a 0 star, but I have to give them a 1 star.
