Hampton Hill Junior School is a large (360 pupils) junior school nestled on St James' Avenue not…read morefar from Hampton Hill High Street. It is housed in a rather picturesque building dating from the 1920s, though it has been expanded and improved since. Hampton Hill Junior School educates pupils from years 3 - 6 (ages 7 - 11), and is linked with Carlisle Infant School (meaning that in most cases, pupils will finish Carlisle in year 2 and progress fairly seamlessly with their classmates into HHJS). The headteacher, Bill Jerman, is excellent. He is a strong leader, taking no guff from the children! He impressed me particularly when my daughter attended. I was writing a paper (I was a mature student doing a part time degree) on religious education and collective worship, and asked, after a parent teacher evening, if I could attend a 'normal' (as opposed to harvest) assembly. He told me I could, and we arranged a date. It occurred to me afterwards that I hadn't told him who I was. I arrived on the appointed day, worried that no-one would be expecting me, but sure enough, he greeted me, got me settled before the children arrived, and then discussed the yearly assembly programme and RE scheme of work after the assembly. My daughter had good teachers with a couple of truly excellent ones. The school runs extension programmes for gifted children which benefited my daughter, and also taught French (in a fun, non pressurised way) to its year 6 pupils. All in all, this is a very good state junior school, which prepares its pupils admirably for secondary school and beyond.

Throughout this time my experience has been positive and I have nothing but praise for the school. The teachers are genuinely concerned for the learning potential and welfare of the children and seem able to stretch the more able children while helping those who might fall behind. The amount of extra curricular activities and diverse school trips is amazing and really expands the children's horizons. Discipline seems to be taken very seriously and there have never seemed to be any issues about behaviour. The school is a real community school that has an incredibly welcoming atmosphere, to children and parents alike. My youngest child is still in the Nursery and I'm waiting to hear if she has a place in Reception, if she hasn't I will be devastated as I can't imagine a better school, and it has become part of our lives over the last 8 years!

I too am from the United States and I have nothing but admiration for the school where my four nieces and nephews have been blessed with amazing educations. IN fact, I have been so impressed that over the years I recommended it to other Americans moving to London for work. Two couples who have had their children there (family of five and four) were very happy. In fact, one family left London to return to the US and missed the school so much that they returned to UK. All of those children are grown now and are in excellent schools, two of them at Westminster. By the way, all but two of the eight children I personally know are all...wait for it...BOYS. In addition, I have had the true pleasure of watching several Heathside Preparatory School musical concerts over the years and seen those children perform admirably. All are supported so beautifully by the teachers that you can see the children's confidence emerge more and more as they play solo or in concert. It is very moving.

My youngest attends Quainton Hall School Nursery part time and has done since January. I can't…read morerate this Nursery highly enough. The facilities are excellent, with a bright and colourful learning environment for the children and plenty of toys and outside space, plus a garden for them to explore. The balance and structure between play and learning is excellent and the children are all taught phonics. Children 3 years and above are given regular home school reading books to help encourage and prepare them for their Reception Year. The staff are all so friendly, positive and welcoming and helped to settle my son really well. He can't wait to go there each morning now and frequently chats about his teachers and all the fun he is having there. The staff took great time and care to really get to know my child and are always on hand to offer support - they really know and recognise every child's needs and adapt accordingly. Nothing has been too much trouble for them and I feel so secure knowing that he is in such a positive and caring environment. My little one is really thriving having been there less than 6 months and the other mums I've met since joining the Nursery all say the same about their little ones too. In just 3 months I noticed a huge difference in his maturity, communication and confidence. I feel really fortunate to have found a nursery where I feel my son is loved, nurtured and gently encouraged to develop at his own pace, in the same way I would do at home, and where the staff take such pride in the children's individual development and achievements.

My child attended the nursery at this school in 2019 and I also had an older child in PP2. I have now taken them both out of this school and have sent them to Alpha prep (where I couldn't be happier with). My child was in nappies when she first started attending the nursery, which they were not happy with. I was in the process of potty training her but she was finding this difficult to get the hang of. I was then shocked to find changes of clothes in her bag when she was coming home from nursery. The staff would remove her nappy when entering the nursery and expect her to know how to use the toilet. Absolutely shocking way to treat my child. I would never recommend any child to be sent here, especially not for a private school fee.

The best way to know is to simply ask parents of children who go there- if you are interested i recommend to talk to parents - you will simply discover what a wonderful school this is.

I always hated my schools, but my little brother was very happy at this one. Although it is Church of England, the children are taught about different religions from the start, and the pupils are from a big mix of countries, cultures and backgrounds. The only drawback is the lack of space. It is a small, friendly school with a family feeling to it. But the playground is tiny though well equipped. What is particularly cool about this school, though, is its survival flanked by two peep shows in the heart of Soho. Be prepared to see bruised and drugged looking teenage girls slinking and smoking outside the dodgy doorways, but never fear! The friendly neighbourhood bobbies always stand outside the gate at home time to ensure all is well. A local policeman also escorts the children and teachers to church for Christmas shows and whatever whatnots people get up to in those places. One day when my brother was seven a gunman escaped from a neighbouring brothel and took refuge on the school roof, but all was well as while armed police took over the school walls the teachers took the children for a picnic in the safe haven of nearby St James' Park. A lovely, friendly school - just make sure you're prepared for all those birds and bees conversations early on as it's pretty full on outside the school gates.

I attended events at Carlisle, and maintained relationships with the staff and heads. This is an excellent infant school (reception - year 2). There is a three form entry, with up to 30 in each class (when my daughter went there, most classes had over 30 due to successful appeals and children moving into the area; this is illegal now). The teachers, many of whom have been there for years and years, are, for the most part committed, caring and effective. The school has effective leadership, and continuity of leadership - the present head has been there over 15 years, and the head before her was there for yonks and yonks. The classrooms are clean and attractively decorated with the children's artwork. The playground has recently undergone some significant improvements, and there is good play (both active and quiet) equipment there. The security is (sadly but necessarily) tight. I am glad my daughter attended Carlisle, and would not hesitate to recommend the school to new parents.
