How lovely a school AHS is can be summed up by a very sweet moment which we witnessed just this last weekend. Whilst we were at Chestnut Sunday in Bushy Park our son, who is in year 1 (his third year at AHS) spotted one of his classmates, riding on a fairground carousel. Our son proceeded to sprint round the thing so the two of them could talk and only stopped when exhaustion got the better of him! All the children seem to genuinely love each other and we put this down to the decent human values, camaraderie and warmth at the school. Both of our children are at AHS. Both love everything about the place; their teachers, the lessons, their classmates, the excellent extra-curricular activities they do and school trips they go on. I honestly cannot speak highly enough about the place. How much - and how quickly - they are learning is impressive. We believe this comes from the combination of excellent teaching and small numbers in each class. Finally, no comment about AHS is complete without mentioning the headmistress. The longer we know Mrs. Woolf the more respect we have for her. Mrs. Woolf is just great; experienced, balanced and fair. The welfare and development of all of the children is clearly at the heart of everything she does. We could not have wished for a better start to our childrens' education. read more

My husband and I are so impressed with this school, and my children could not be happier. It is a small school about 10/12 in each class so the individual attention each child receives is excellent. Both my children are very different, complete opposites but somehow the teachers have bought out the best of each of their abilities. There are regular open mornings where parents are invited to look around the classroom to see what the children have been working on, I find this very useful as you can see how your child is developing plus my children get very excited showing me around THEIR school. This school is a great start to my children's education, they seem to love learning and enjoy going to school. The teachers are vey approachable and you feel you can ask them anything, they certainly live up to the school motto where each child is special. There are so many schools to choose from in Hampton but we are so pleased we made the right choice. read more

We found this school after taking our son out of a state school where he was being bullied. The reason we chose this school was because we felt it was a nurturing and caring environment and that has turned out to be entirely true. In fact this school changed our son from the boy who hated school and didn't want to get dressed in the morning to the boy who loves school so much he sometimes forgets to say goodbye, in his rush to get in. The class sizes are very small, and the standard of teaching is very high. Mrs Woolf, the headteacher has a wonderful way with, and understanding of children and nothing has been too much trouble. Our son will be going to Denmead this year. Other children in his class are going to Newland House, The Mall, St Catherine's, Lady Eleanor Holles and Bridgidine. I LOVE Athelstan House School. My daughter is now in Year 1 and started in Reception and she is so happy there. She can't wait to go to school in the morning and comes home bubbling with excitement at night. It's a small school, with a really caring, family feel and all the children get a huge amount of individual attention, because of the small classes and excellent teacher/pupil ratio. My daughter was quite socially reserved when starting school but has blossomed in confidence at this school. She is also forging ahead academically and because of the support she is receiving has developed a real love of learning that I hope will last her whole life. This is an amazing small school. My little boy started at 2 1/2 and loves it. He has really come on as the level of attention is great and the teachers are genuinely caring. Completely disagree with the review of Mrs Woolf as I find her a very insightful childcare professional. Special praise should also be given for the preschool and nursery teacher Mrs Gillings as she is really exceptional. If you cannot afford private ed all the way I would still try to get into the nursery and pre school as it is exceptional value for money. We also find the breakfast club useful as we both work. read more
