Our issues started when we arrived to check in. Two girls at the front desk were gossiping & sharing photos on their phones. When we went up to speak with them, they looked at us, and then turned away to continue their chat. We said "Excuse us we are here to check in." They rolled their eyes and checked us in. A bit shocking to be greeted that way, especially as that Is literally their job.
When we got into our room, it smelled like someone had been smoking. As this is a "smoke-free hotel" we certainly didn't expect that. We would've liked to open the window, but there was no way to do so.
Our view was of a construction site, which we had a laugh at.
There was very little space in our room (2 twin beds) so maneuvering was tricky. The beds were rock-hard. My companion & I both had back/shoulder issues and experienced much pain.
No fridge in the room.
The shower was an open half-door, so water tended to get everywhere. Instead of body soap, they provided hand soap in the shower, which was bizarre.
The shower hooks were right on top of each other, which made no sense. Why would't they be next to each other? This meant the bottom towel, when hung, dragged on the floor. The hooks were also tiny and it was difficult to get the towels to stay.
A/C in the room would only go to 18C. But it certainly did NOT feel that cold. We were sweaty the majority of the time. Again, we would've loved being able to open the window.
On our final day, the smell of poop/sewerage was in the bathroom. We had no idea where this came from! It stayed all day long and was revolting. We almost were gagging.
Wi-fi was in & out. When it did work, it was decent.
The downstairs lobby was a nice spot to hang out with a variety of seating options. However, we had issues with the cleaning. Many tables had litter/plates/glasses/etc. We watched team members walk by and look at this trash but not pick it up.
During our stay the elevator went out of service, convenient as we were on floor 5. After a few hours only one was out of service, but it was still enough to slow down moving up/down the floors.
While the complimentary breakfast was similar to other properties, this one lacked in cleanliness. I myself am vegan and appreciated the allergen menus, however, I was not confident in selecting items. I saw many people using the same tongs in other bowls. There were signs up, but they were moved/bumped around and not fixed. The soy milk & regular milk were right next to each other - impossible to tell what was what. As someone with both a dietary restriction & allergen, this left me with almost nothing I could confidently eat. On one day when we went down at 6 AM, things were clean - so it appears the staff set things up but don't maintain them.
The lobby had complimentary water on occasion, but it was hard to tell which glasses were clean. Some would be sitting on the counter vs black tray. It was also frequently empty & after ~10 PM it would be removed entirely. In these situations we were told we had to pay for water.
We also had to purchase toothpaste. This is the first Hilton/Hampton property where I had to pay for toothpaste. Most have given me this complimentary. read more
