That's not why you should hire Mike & Mike...well not the only reason, because their work is top notch. The biggest reason you should hire them (and I absolutely acknowledge I'm an old man yelling "get off my lawn!" here) is "honesty and integrity." These guys come from the old school of standing by your work and letting it speak for itself. My wife really wanted a fridge with an ice maker but the house we moved into didn't have a water line for that. I was trying to get an idea of what it would cost to have one installed so we could decide whether it was within our budget so we could pick a fridge and move forward with our lives. You would seriously not believe how hard that was. I made it abundantly clear to everyone I talked to that I knew they couldn't give me a binding estimate without actually seeing the project, and I begged for just a guess at a range...would this be somewhere between $200 - $2,000, am I looking at more like $10,000? Am I going to need another mortgage for this? I talked to probably 20 different handymen. 19 of them pretended they had no idea what it might cost and wouldn't even give a ballpark or a range without sending someone into my home so they could use their high-pressure sales tactics to make sure they got my business. They had either never done a job like this before, in which case I didn't want them, or they were lying to me, in which case I also didn't want them. Mike and Mike were the exact opposite. I asked what they expected it would cost, and they made their best guess and gave me a range of the top and bottom end based on really hard or really easy jobs. They were super flexible and easy to work with, and when the job was done they came in at the very bottom end of what they had estimated. They were on time, quick, super respectful, and my wife is smiling ear-to-ear. So yeah, there's plenty of handymen you could hire who will probably do a great job. Upon David's arrival he inspected the job, explained that it would be difficult to do and I understood given the lack of space to work in, but he'd do his best to get the job done, and he was off to get the necessary supplies. When he returned he knocked out the job as he showed and explained to me along the way what he was doing to make sure I was ok and happy with it. Our cabinets are now ready for install and we can finally stop stressing about this. However, there were issues with the second work. He quoted me $220 for a simple sink stopper realignment, new drain (costs $5 at Home Depot), and leak repair. Fine. However, he did NOT fix the leak. Water continued to drip under the sink for 2 weeks after he said he fixed it. He did come by once during those 2 weeks and said it was just something he needed to "tighten". That was not the case as the leak persisted. I called JJ again on 10/3 to let him know. I sent him pictures and we confirmed that a rusted valve needed to be replaced. Great. So he quoted me another $110 to have it repaired. Really JJ?! Absolutely NOT right to charge a client more money when it wasn't even fixed the first time. Especially after we both specified what needed to be done and the amount that was agreed upon. He said it's because he needed to buy a different part which (he confirmed) was only $10 at the store. I told him I shouldn't be paying anything more since the repair wasn't done the FIRST time. However, I told JJ that I can pay $10 for the part and he said no. And we bickered back and forth and settled on $60 for him to fix this leak. But after giving it some thought, I will spend the $10 on the part and go on YouTube and figure it out myself. This is a very unfortunate situation because I wanted to continue to use him for other bathroom projects. However, I REFUSE to be taken advantage of. I might not know a lot about plumbing, but I know enough and I definitely know when I'm being hustled. Scamming a client for MORE money after NOT fixing it right the first time, is BAD business. Very unprofessional and unethical. I would have not expected this considering all of the 5-star reviews on here. Do not mistake my kindness and soft spoken voice as weakness JJ. We set an appointment for Wednesday between 9 and 11 AM. Peter showed up on time (and smelling great) and got to work. He took the time to listen to what was wrong and what we had already tried. He ran the dryer to confirm and then got to work. Peter had the issue fixed in about 20 minutes. It turned out that our thermostat had burned out. He replaced it, but let us know the root cause. Our washer and dryer are too big for our laundry room, and there's not enough room behind the dryer. The hose was getting crushed, reducing the airflow. He tried his best to move our dryer out enough that the hose wouldn't be crushed without blocking our garage door. He let us know that we'll need to change the vent hose to something smaller, or this will happen again. I really love that he took the time to not just fix the issue, but to find the root cause. As a female homeowner, it's rare to feel heard, and it's far too common to be spoken to like a child. Peter was the exact opposite. He was respectful and efficient, which I really appreciate.
