From day one, GUS has satisfied everyone's needs. I have no question that my children are understood - not just by the teachers and students, but members of the administration and faculty. It is an academically open minded and encouraging place, and thanks to GUS, both my kids have found their voice in ways that pleasantly surprised me. GUS is forward thinking in its mindset, but old fashioned in its process. Trustworthy and creative. It is a very good place.

We found both, and even more at Glen Urquhart. From the first moment of our visit, we were struck by the creativity and goodness that permeate every nook and cranny of this magical campus. 3 years later, our daughter is thriving in every way we could have hoped for: academically, creatively and socially. If you are seeking a place where the educators genuinely care about each child, and work to bring out the best in them, look no further. GUS is your place.

And…read moreI had great tutorial teachers that help, I believe that the one-to-one help me more with my dyslexia. The problem was I didn't do well in regular classes because they would be mixed with people with ADD and different levels of dyslexia. Yes the classrooms were small but with people with severe dyslexia it wasn't small enough. Most kids who get medicated for their ADD then can focus and read. That's not the same with me. The other problem was teachers. They would stay for a certain time. Get their certification in dyslexia and get room and board. They'd leave and get better money. The teachers were also in charge of the afterschool activities. Half of my years in middle school was At a different school And the science teacher there is so motivating, hands on and taught new ways to think about science. I thought I was going to be a scientist. Because of the change of the teachers at Landmark I had a horrible science teacher and just like that I was turned off science. They had people from all over the the world. so because of that they have room and board. I also think they take people who had a lot of money, And not always with a reading problem. When I went there they had kid who are princes from Eastern European, movie star children, and Family so rich that the kids could have their own mansion. That's why Most those buildings are named after their families. I would take a bus to school but I was felt like I was separated from the people who boarded. I could never do The afterschool activities because I had to catch the bus. I was left out. The teachers who would stay we're always good teachers but I left feeling like they should've done a little bit more. When I graduate from high school I wish they inform me how college would've been. How I could use certain techniques to use in college or in a job. I did graduate from college but I still can't read through full book without getting lost or feeling like I forgot what I read. Thank God for technology. I'm using the microphone on my phone to talk into it to type this and the speaker to read back to me so I can correct the words. With a group of my peers in middle school we started a movie called Enni's Gift talking about dyslexia.

But once he started at the Phoenix School, things turned around. He came home after the first day and said, "It's like the teachers aren't even teachers--they're just people!" The caring relationship with his teachers, the community at the school, the way his teachers push him to do more than he thought he could and support him as he learns to push himself has been amazing. He loves school now and is thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. The way they integrate learning across all their activities is special. Students learn all the academic skills throughout all their activities, along with specialized practice in, say, math or writing, especially as they get older. They also use the community at large as their classroom with frequent out-of-the-classroom learning experiences that engage students far more than anything I've seen at any other school. Teachers support students as they produce high-quality work, with autonomy and ownership over their own learning. Teachers are among the most dedicated professional educators I've ever met. They work hard to create a community of students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members dedicated to the well-being and education of students as complete people. It's not possible for me to say enough good things about this school.

He was able to get the help that he needed in order to succeed, in order to grasp concepts, and thrive and ultimately graduate. My younger son, who is a freshman and also has an IEP and require supports in order to thrive. Succeed and graduate is not getting any supports and main stream. He is unable to grasp the conceptual elements of an algebra problem where is the support and where is the person that is supposed to help him and break this down for him? Additionally, due to his disability being ADHD I believe that certain steps should be taken to revise the tardy policy. Beverly High School has the right to implement any policy they see fit. The policy that they have implemented is as follows three Tarde's equal an absence. Even if a child is succeeding, academically, and is receiving an A But have been tardy to many times they will receive, what's called an A/F ,meaning they pass the class, but essentially they failed it because of the taffy's. The disability act states that the child with a disability should be treated accordingly somebody with ADHD lacks executive functioning skills, organizational skills, time, management skills, etc pretty much it's like asking a child who requires the assistance of a wheelchair to go up the stairs. So far not so good with my youngest son. Make sure you think long and hard before you send your child to Beverly High School. If they are on an IEP and and and main stream classes, they will not receive much hope that I can tell you for certain.

Plumfield is a special place - whether your child is quiet or loud, sensitive or bold, artistic or sporty, there is a spot for everyone. I literally saw a sign, a lawn sign, and as soon as I pulled up the website I knew this was the answer. We went in for a day to check it out and participated in a class that asked us to write down emotions that were putting holes in our buckets. We then went outside and burned them in a fire pit. This was exactly the type of place I wanted my son to be. My son was stressed out about the grades and tests and homework at his public school. We loved that Plumfield doesn't "test" their knowledge but rather has them do narration for what they are learning, really thinking about and writing down or speaking what they've learned. Our son works through his math book at his own pace. Beyond the general academics Plumfield teaches scripture while allowing the children to share and have their own beliefs. I love that they do nature study, logic, and the arts (drama, music, acting, etc). And my son is currently working through 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens which he has very much enjoyed. We love the "nontraditional" approach offering our child broader, life oriented lessons. The teachers have all been wonderful and supportive. The director John is an honest, wonderful man who has developed a loving relationship with my son helping him through struggles in his life. Our son says Plumfield feels like a family. We feel incredibly grateful that we were able to find this gem of a school for our son to finish out his middle school years. He is working with Plumfield to apply to St John's Prep for high school and we truly believe Plumfield has offered him the best preparation for his high school career.
