When we got there, suddenly the car was "out on a test drive but we can pull around a brand new one with the same specs so you can test drive it." We did and when we came back were told the used care we came to look at had sold while we were test driving. Then AGGRESSIVELY tried to sell us the new car. They tested the limits of our patience and we were finally done and got up to leave and their GM threw an inappropriate tantrum. We called 2 days later and the used car was still available. BEWARE! I hate to post a negative review but I am extremely disappointed in this establishment. In November 2024, the transmission of my car had blown and I needed a new one. Initially they said my car was fine, turned off the lights and told me to come pick it up. 30 minutes later they called and said I actually need a new transmission, so weird way to start off. I was very appreciative that while my car was getting fixed, they provided a courtesy loaner. However, they let me know that my transmission was on back order until March 2025 and that it was my responsibility to call Mazda and expedite it, which I thought was strange. Fast forward to end of December, they let me know that they accidentally put the wrong transmission into my car and that it would take a few more days....a week later we're now in January and my car is all done and I'm on my way. Fast forward to the beginning of April (mind you less than 3 months since my new transmission had been installed) and I start hearing a strange noise. I was in New Jersey (where I originally bought my car) and got an oil change at my original location but also asked them to see if they were able to check where this noise was coming from. They didn't even get to my oil change and pulled me into the auto shop to show me what's going on. It turns out the Hamden Mazda put my new transmission in incorrectly, and all the fluid had leaked out and now I need ANOTHER new transmission. It was missing bolts and screws, a piece was not connected correctly, and the job was done extremely poorly. I have been driving with a severely damaged transmission for the last few weeks and I'm lucky that it didn't fully blow while I was driving. Really disappointed in this Mazda and I will never return. The Mazda in NJ called their manufacturing team and they didn't even want me to bring it back to Hamden after all that i've been through...that speaks volumes. I no longer feel safe to drive my car and I encourage everyone to do your research when bringing your car in. While my initial sales experience with this dealership was good I have to say the month that has followed has been unpleasant. I have been in possession of my vehicle for 28 days, and I have still not received my permanent license plates. As a result, the vehicle remains unregistered. My insurance provider has informed me that my coverage will be discontinued as of December 21 due to the lack of registration. This situation places me in an unacceptable position, as I am unable to legally or safely operate the vehicle through no fault of my own. I have been told that someone from Hamden Mazda has gone to the RMV multiple times in an attempt to resolve this issue. However, it is concerning that meaningful action appears to have only begun after I sent multiple emails during the week my temporary plates were set to expire. This matter should have been addressed well within the 28-day timeframe. I have made consistent efforts to assist in resolving this issue and have provided all necessary cooperation. Despite this, I feel I am being treated as though I am causing inconvenience, rather than seeking resolution to a delay that is entirely outside of my control. I have called and tried to speak with a manager but my messages never seem to make it to them or they can't be bothered to call back or fix the issue. Additionally the website provides no contact information about a GM, only a generic chat box that I'm sure is received by a receptionist that selectively responds to messages. read more

I made an appointment yesterday and spoke to a woman who gave me an appointment at 9:15. I sent numerous emails yesterday to look at a used car. I took time off from work and drove all the way to Hamden and the Sales Woman was helping me and when I told her that I did not have to finance it she got up to get the key for the car and came back and told me the car was sold. Researched their used car lot which is extensive. Went with my 88 yo mom to but her something to get around locally. They didn't wanna sell us any used car and kept pushing a lease for two years on us. We politely said no we just wanna see the used cars from the list I brought in. Instead of bringing them around they made my 88 year-old mother walk 300 yards down into the used car lot to sit in Two dirty cars clearly not ready for sale and when I asked to have them come and give her a ride back they said no one was available so she had to walk the 300 yards uphill. I said I would be there in 30 minutes, and after driving 30 minutes to get there, I was directed to a seat, and then told the car was not available, and would I like to see a different car. They like to waste peoples time. I drove almost 45 minutes to get to my 10:30 appointment, got there on time, only to be told that there was 3! other cars waiting in line before my car gets serviced. When I made the appointment I was told I would be out by noon. I specifically asked about this because I'm a school bus driver and had a time limit as to when I should leave by to get back to my afternoon shift on time and I couldn't be late. An oil change shouldn't take longer than an hour and a half. Traffic is very unpredictable to and from my house. Needless to say, I had to leave without getting my oil change, it was a terrible experience, a waste of time and gas and didn't get the service I scheduled to get done. Daughter made appt to test drive a car. Drove an hour to get there the next morning only to sit and wait and then be told it had sold the night before. They offered a more expensive vehicle to test drive and after more waiting was told it was in the shop and unavailable for a test drive. I had been wanting to trade in my vehicle for the new CX-30 for the past 2 years, and this past week I finally bit the bullet and made the deal. My salesperson, Pierre Solon, was extremely helpful and worked to get me more for my trade-in than they initially quoted. Overall the experience was mostly pleasant, though the finance portion did seem a bit rushed. Ultimately, I was able to get the exact model and trim level I had wanted at a very fair price. Pierre even worked hard to remove my university alumni license plate frame from my old car and put it on my new car himself. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND anyone going to this dealership. Although my sales experience was very pleasant with Anthony after dealing with their Finance manager Josh I now wish I never walked into this dealership. After what was supposed to be a very exciting time In my life leasing a brand new 2024 Mazda CX-5 turned out to be the most stressful experiences of my entire life. Josh the finance manager who has multiple negative reviews has completely ruined my car buying experience at Hamden Mazda and I will never get another car from them again. I went and picked out the car on Friday 10/14 and came back the following day to sign all of the paperwork and get my vehicle. I worked with Josh and he completely rushed through the entire process, pressuring me to sign without fully reading the contract (discovered an undisclosed fee that was not explained later on). I wanted to transfer my registration and plates and I had told my salesperson that but Josh didn't provide that option to me and I had to pay for a new registration and to get a new plate. When it came time for payment I handed him my 8,000 cashiers check and paid the difference that was still owed with my credit card. On the following Wednesday, Josh started calling me and texting me asking first how they collected the down payment. This was immediately concerning because as the Finance Manager who did all of my paperwork how are you asking me how the payment was collected? The next day he continued to call and text me saying now the office is not showing the check was receipted in and he thought it was in my paperwork I took home, which it was not. He then proceeded to threaten me that the office would hold back submitting my registration paperwork to the DMV. He immediately wanted me to cancel the check and have it reissued. I told him I was going to check with my bank before proceeding with anything. The following day Josh continued to call me and when he then proceeded to call my job asking for me! A complete invasion of privacy as the phone number provided should have been only used to confirm employment status NOT to be used to handle a finance discretion. So unprofessional! He then called me yet again and when I answered he was with the office manager Lori, I very sternly let them know they are NOT allowed to call my job for any reason and that once I am done with the bank I would reach out to them. They both acknowledged. Since the accusations had escalated to first not knowing how my down payment was collected, to it not being recited in to now me not giving them my check I was extremely uncomfortable with the narrative and I actually filed a police report against the dealership. Once I spoke to my bank and confirmed the check had not been cashed I was informed that it would be a 90 day turn around to get the check reissued. Again extremely uncomfortable being that they already threaten to cancel my registration and cancel my contact. When I was on my way back to the dealership to discuss the situation Josh yet again called me 3 times in a row from 2 different numbers (his cell phone & his office phone) and yet again CALLED MY JOB. This time from a number that has not been disclosed to him, meaning he had to look it up to get it! When I went to the dealership they never admitted to losing the check or wanted to admit fault. But how would you let someone drive off in a brand new 2024 car without collecting the down payment? How were they able to calculate the difference I owed if my $8,000 wasn't accounted for? Why is the $8,000 showing as the down payment on my leasing paperwork? Why was Josh calling me so much if he did his job and I was in the wrong? Why did 2 employees handle my payment that day, one with a credit card and the other with a check but only one of them handed me back a receipt? Given my paperwork and all other documents that is the only narrative that makes logical sense and if the approach had been different I wouldn't be looking to do everything in my power to get out of my lease and away from the dealership. read more

Quite literally the best car buying experience from start to finish. My sales consultant (Atakan) and the sales manager (Wiley) were incredibly helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. They were patient with me while helping me with a decision, and the multiple test drives that went along with it. Everything was seamless, I received a very fair deal and they made sure to follow up with me after I took delivery to ensure I was satisfied and to see if I had any questions. The experience was so positive, I referred two other people who purchased vehicles there. That should speak volumes!!! Excellent all the way around - would recommend them to anyone. There are two other Mazda dealers closer to where I live but the trip to Hamden was well worth it. If I could give more stars, I would!! And I must also mention Lori in Finance. She was also fantastic. Knowledgeable, efficient, patient and easy to deal with. The whole team was outstanding and worked well together to ensure a seamless and positive experience. Sold me a car that they claimed was in good condition. I regret not having my mechanic check it out before making the sale final. When I finally got around to having my mechanic check it (only 2 and a half months later) it was past the point of return and the whole back frame had to be rebuilt. They had to take the back suspension out of an old car and put it into mine because the original on my Mazda 6 was completely rusted out. I do admit it's a 10 year old car with 120k+ miles but the fact that that this damage was kept a secret from me is just quite shady. Also the inside of the wheels (as in the part of the wheel covered by the tires was so corroded that the tires would lose air every 2 days until my mechanic was able to buff them clean. If you absolutely have to get a car from hamden Mazda DO NOT FORGET TO GET YOUR CAR CHECKED BY A THIRD PARTY MECHANIC!! (In closing I will mention that after many days or maybe weeks we were able to convince hamden Mazda to pay back a very small portion of the cars total paid price but it was a laughable amount considering how much of work had to be done). read more

I call Hamden Mazda on 08-AUG and tell them I want to do an early termination of a 3-year lease on a Mazda 3 and buy the car. He says to come in and go over the numbers, and that I may just walk out with a check from them. At Hamden Mazda, I say I called earlier about ending my lease early on a Mazda 3. The guy reviews the Lease agreement and tells me I still owe the remaining 13 lease payments. I tell him I know that; I want to know if the dealership was interested in buying the car once I owned it. He says "Regardless, you still owe the outstanding lease amount. How do you want to pay?" He takes my credit card and leaves. He returns with a receipt and papers for me to sign. He asks for my driver's license and the car registration, then leaves with both. He returns, and says "OK, we're all done" and that it's their car now. I ask (loudly) "Do you think I would pay you over $3,000 out of my own pocket, then just abandon a car with a $21,000 trade-in value"? He says "Well, that's what you just did". In an even louder voice, I say that they're trying to steal my car from me. He says he just did what I asked him to do. I walk away to find the manager. I find the manager. He says they did what I asked. I show him the Lease agreement with the residual value of $13,000. I say I want to pay the remaining lease plus the residual value so I own the car, then I want to know if Hamden Mazda wants to buy the car from me. He says the residual value on the lease is only good after the lease is done in 2023. It's much higher if I terminate the lease today. And anyway, most dealers would not buy a car like that. I make them cancel the credit card payment, and give my key back, and I leave. I call Mazda Financing about terminating the lease early. She says I just need to pay the remaining 12 lease payments (not 13 like Hamden Mazda said) plus the residual value stated in the Lease agreement. Hamden Mazda tried to fraudulently obtain my car. Follow up: I receive a call from a Hamden Mazda rep on Aug 11. She says the owner asked her to call me. Here are the highlights of that call. She explained how there was a miscommunication. She explained what I did wrong and what I should have said when I walked into the dealership. She said she understands both sides of the story. She explained how a lease works. She explained that small dealerships cannot offer as much as CarMax. She explained the manager meant that I owed more than just the lease amount plus the residual value. I also owed a registration fee and doc fees. She apologized. She stated two or three times that they did nothing "legally" wrong. She didn't explain why Hamden Mazda collected lease payments of 13 months instead of the 12 months I owed. (She said there was probably confusion because of the current month's lease payment. I asked if they checked with Mazda Finance. She didn't answer.) She didn't explain why my 4:00 appointment at the dealer was specifically made to terminate the lease *and* for me to buy the car per the Lease agreement. (She said the notes for the appointment didn't state that. I said I even told the guy that when I met with him. She said it was a "miscommunication". She said if this happened 2 or 3 years ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation because used car values were not so high. I said OK, but it happened 2 days ago and used car values are high.) I told her I didn't need an explanation of how a lease works or why CarMax can offer higher prices for used cars. I told her that has nothing to do with the issue. She didn't explain why the manager said the residual value on the Lease agreement was only valid *at the end of the lease* when Mazda Finance said it was valid today. She didn't explain why Mazda Finance did not charge me registration fee nor doc fees when I worked with them to end the lease, yet Hamden Mazda would have charged me for both. I told her she did not owe me an apology. But if the owner was truly sincere, he'd have the sales rep and the manager call me. I am even more convinced Hamden Mazda fraudulently tried to obtain my car. read more

I went there to look at a CX3. I've never been inside one before. I got a test drive through the city and even on the highway. The car was OK but I wasn't really impressed by the inside. When we got back to the dealership I saw they had a BMW X1. I also wanted to look at that car so I ended up test driving it too.The salesman was saying how he liked the car himself and he would buy it. I kept asking him the price and he kept saying he didn't know how much it cost.Once we got back inside he handed me a paper with the cost. It had so many fees on top of the price it was almost $7000 including taxes and registration. I couldn't believe it. $7000 on top of the price!!! I ended up buying a CX5 Grand Touring at Mazda of Milford. They're fees were only $2280 including taxes and registration. Why they have different fees I have no idea. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone servicing their vehicle with this Mazda dealership . I thought I was doing the right thing for my car by taking it to the dealership to get fixed but it ended up just making more problems for my car by bringing it there . I originally went there for an oil change . When I picked up my truck , they said it needed brakes and rotor pads . I scheduled the next upcoming appointment to get that service done . I went to go pick up my car and as soon as I drove off my park light was on as well as my break light . Immediately , I called and complained . I paid $630 just for them to not do their job correctly . The manager Gary was extremely rude and unprofessional . I had to bring the car back . When I did , they started saying the car suddenly had other issues with the breaks . Every time I called , I got a different answer , on top of the $630 , they wanted me to pay another $500 to fix the break light problem . When I originally brought the car there . There were no lights on at all . Gary said if I don't like his answer , I can leave his dealership and never return . Never have I ever dealt with such unprofessional management ! read more

My car had a mechanical malfunction and I had my car towed to Hamden Mazda. Worst decision of my life, they have terrible costumer service and a lack of basic communication skills. When I asked to speak to the supervisor, Jeffery, he was rude and even demanded to no longer speak to me because he wanted to speak to a male figure (Btw I am a 20yrd, FEMALE, college student). They needed a piece for my car, in which, they couldn't find but it was in a dealership in New Jersey, in which they lied, telling me they checked to see if the part was in stock, therefore I didn't have my car for a month! Causing me to not have a way of transportation to school and my job, fyi I work a hospital! Their manger, Ty H, had no sense of communication skills and kept giving misinformation and not taking my feelings into consideration, whatsoever. There is so much more I can complain about, but they will be expecting a complaint filed against them! If you want a DECENT job done on your car DON'T go to them, can't even screw in a piece properly. read more
