Burgers are fairly large--consider sharing with a friend if your appetite isn't terribly big! Fries are perfectly crisp with a sprinkle of salt. They offer several dipping sauces (try the curry sauce!!! So good and a very mild curry flavor). They don't carry the typical fountain sodas, but a bottle of Fritz Cola is an excellent upgrade substitute for Coca Cola! The restaurant is immaculately clean, with likewise clean and nice restroom facilities. Really great service and food! We got a lot of recommendations to go to Hamburgerei, because they are known to have awesome burgers so we headed over! I got the Persian sandwich with grilled chicken and it was pretty good - had a lot of asian-inspired flavoring if you're into that. I also got the Original hamburger with an extra patty. The bun was perfect and the burger was juicy. In love! We got two sides of fries because initially it seemed like the portion they give you (a small cup) was not going to be satisfying enough, but it is actually quite a lot. Was a tourist craving a burger, saw that this had good reviews and gave it a chance. First - make a reservation or be prepare to wait. The servers there graciously helped my husband and I find a table because we didn't know we were supposed to make reservations. It's a super trendy place so lots of young people and it was packed. How it works: - You can ask for an English menu (I've attached a picture of it) - Order at the counter and they'll give your drink order and a buzzer - Wait at your table and when the buzzer goes off, pick up your burger - They'll clear your table for you I got the Bavarian, the bun was supposed to be a pretzel bun but didn't taste like a pretzel to me. My husband also ordered it medium well (b/c I'm pregnant) and I thought it was a bit burned, always go for Medium or Medium Rare! Good flavor though. Great spot for fancy good burgers. I had the "Bayer" burger which I have to admit it was one of the best burgers I have ever had (and I had lots and lots of good burgers). It was perfectly cooked at medium-rare (which is closer to rare with some blood as I always hope for) and with a perfect combination of flavors with the "bretzel-style" bun, bacon, arugula and obatzda (which tastes like Italian gorgonzola). Returned to Hamburgerei last night with a group of friends who'd never been; I can't say anyone else was particularly happy with their meals, but for the first time my burger was truly "medium rare" as requested - and it was fabulous. With a little help of the Yelp app we managed to find this cool burger place, which is a little off the beaten tourist streets in Munich. The place is pretty small inside and operates a queue up to place your order system, then you get a buzzer which tells you when your order is ready to collect. Despite the lack of English menu, with the help of google translate we managed to work out what we wanted. I opted for a veggie burger patty swapping the bun for a salad whilst my boyfriend went for one of their meat burgers with cheese and all the toppings and a side of sweet potatoes. Theres no Diet Coke in this place just local cola. Whilst tempting as this was, some ice cold water from the cool bottles were our preference. When my burger came the plate had a lovely looking salad, some sort of mustard onion dressing and a pot of requested ketchup. It looked a little too much like meat and some probing discovered that my order was in fact a big chunk of beef! A swift return to the cash desk and apologies galore, and my meal was whisked away to be replaced with a veggie burger, which I think had beans and other veg, and was in fact very tasty. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his burger, and declared it one of the best hes had, and the sweet potato fries were crispy and moreish. After seeing some Yelp reviews I sought out this Burger spot. The restaurant itself is sort of tucked off of the sidewalk so look for the sign above the entrance. I found the restaurant to have a cozy feel. Despite this its a bit too dark inside and its very small. I saw a spiral staircase that I assume led to another seating area but I am not too sure. You have to order at the counter and they hand you a buzzer to tell you when your Burger is done. The young women at the counter brought my Burger. It looked delicious and the presentation was great. Despite this the order was wrong. When it was brought back to me it was wrong again. And the 3rd time it was wrong. My request had to so with cooking it well done and no condiments. For some reason the kitchen took three tries to get a well done Burger with no condiments correct. Despite this the counter women was apologetic and tried to make things right. The words "quaint" and "hipster" come to mind when entering the dimly-lit restaurant filled with homages to Tupac and Biggie and decorations of (fake?) wooden logs and neon lights. Strictly self-order and self pick-up, this no-fuss restaurant offers trendy cultural takes on the burger, similar to one of my favorites, Hans im Glück. I waffled between the spicy Mexican (bacon, guacamole, jalapeños), the Persian (hummus, Greek yogurt, caramelized onions), and the Bavarian (sweet mustard, O'bazda, bacon, radish). I ended up choosing the Bavarian without the bread, or in the case of the Bavarian, without the pretzel. The burger was disappointingly rare after I had requested medium, the standard way all burgers are cooked here, unless stated otherwise. You would think that the one thing that is consistent in quality should be the burger. However, when asked to cook a bit more, the staff was very accommodating and brought me back a brand new dish, although I had already eaten 1/3 of the other. The side salad was lukewarm but the pumpkin seeds added a much-needed textural crunch. The vegetable sticks, while varied in type (cucumber, pea snaps, bell peppers, carrots, radishes), were unfortunately quite unpleasant and soft, having the soggy texture that all pre-cut, sitting-there-for-hours-in-a-refrigerator crudité have. I don't think it's too much to ask to have the vegetable sticks sliced to order, as you are charged €2,70 extra for this luxury. Overall, I would eat at Hambugerei on a Monday or Tuesday by myself if Hans im Glück was closed or too far away. Hamburgerei is adequate for a mid-week bite if you're craving an artisanal burger, but there are other options. read more

For those who are looking for other burger options other than Hans im Glück (they're everywhere!), Hamburgerei is worth a visit! Our visit was a refreshing experience compared to our HiG ones. How so? Let's compare! Service: (Fast) self-service @ Hamburgerei -- the friendly staff was quick to take our orders, ask all the necessary questions, and got us sitting back down on our chairs within minutes. This is a 180° compared to the often slow, sometimes unpleasant service we would get @ HiG. Ambient: No-frills @ Hamburgerei -- clean and simple (tables and décor). That's all I need. HiG does run their business based the eponymous fairy tale with the forest-inspired interior, which I found charming from the first few visits. Now I get bored by it since every HiG looks more or less the same. Food: Hamburgerei's menu (culturally-based burgers named the Texan, Mexican, Trojan, etc.) is a little less inspiring than HiG's (burger names inspired by this fairy tale), but I enjoyed the burgers just about the same from these two places. I tried the "Bayer" (or Bavarian) with Bavarian cheese (Obazda), honey mustard, grilled bacon, beef, pickle, etc. served on a pretzel roll, and I was pleasantly surprised how well-balanced the flavors came together. Hot damn! And not just because it's 34°C here in sunny Munich... Hamburgerei is a no-nonsense high end burger joint: perfectly crisp buns, quality ingredients, flavorful meat and excellent sides. My wife and I ordered two of the beef hamburgers (the Texan and Mexican), along with some regular and sweet potato fries (with great mustard and wasabi mayo dipping sauces). The burgers came FAST: as soon as we placed our orders the burgers were on the grill, and about 4 minutes later were sitting in front of us. We regret only being able to eat here once: they also have great looking chicken, fish and vegan burger options, as well as a very nicely plated breadless option (for those watching out for gluten) and salads. If we're in Munich again and looking for a burger, we'll be back for sure. read more

Maybe there was something in the air.....maybe the stars were in alignment...or maybe I was just super excited because it was my birthday..... whatever it was, on this particular magical evening my taste buds were melted, and I don't think they will ever be the same again. I swear I made great decision after great decision when picking the combination that would make up my meal. A little bit of research beforehand resulted in me ordering the Perser burger. I know it sounds odd, but the peanut chutney on this thing truly made the burger. Like Molly said below....medium rare or medium burgers are the ONLY way a burger should be cooked (in my opinion), and the cooks at Hamburgerei nailed it! This paired with the sweet potato fries with wasabi mayo for dipping....geez, it just made me want to cry from joy. I tried one of my friends regular fries and those were also great, but those sweet potato fries. One could definitely write home to mother about those. This place was so good! What a great burger. This place is small (though there is seating upstairs too which helps), so I suggest going on a slightly off time. I got the original burger, and it was so good. It wasn't overcooked, cooked to a nice medium. The cheese, toppings, everything were great. Then there's the side items...I got the standard fries, of course. Though, a couple sweet potato fries were mixed in, so I got to try those too. They were surprisingly good, not nearly as sweet as places in America make theirs. The texture of both kinds were fluffy inside, crispy on the outside. I had ketchup to dip my fries but they were good enough on their own that it isn't necessary. I also tried the curry sauce and boy was that good. Mix it together with some ketchup and it sorta resembles currywurst sauce. If you like burgers, this is definitely the place to go. read more

I had no idea that this place existed, but boy am I glad that I was running late to a movie (at cinema münchen) and walked passed this place! To be completely honest, the first thing that I noticed was this giant salad a girl was eating when I walked in, and I thought "I must have that". We didn't have a reservation (which was a mistake, but remedied by the staff). We we're say upstairs, given a menu and told we needed to then order and pay downstairs at the counter. I found the salad on the men I spotted as I walked in; for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it, but it had sweet potato crispies on it, with goat cheese, beets, and a toasted burger bun as a garnish - it was HUGE. My fiancé got a burger - the Brazilian burger. I have to say, I was not a big fan of the combination of flavors on the burger. That being said, the meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and I was very intrigued with this ginger sauce they put on it. The burger also sported kidney beans, and possibly avocado (I can't really remember at the moment). HOWEVER, the star, the crème de la crème of the meal were the sweet potato fries that came with.... Wait for it............... WASABI MAYONNAISE!!!!! I was really excited about the wasabi mayo since I haven't had it for about 3+ years, and have only seen it in the US. The combination of the sweet potato fries and the wasabi mayo was exquisite. The fries were crispy and served hot, the portion size was generous and could be shared between two people (if you're into sharing awesomeness). All in all this was a great experience. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cool, kind of hipster though. I did hear some people speaking English to some of the staff... So it's a plus that I know I can revert to English if needed. A fantastic burger spot in Munich. It is definitely a bit on the pricy side, but all the food is very high quality. I think it is one of the better burger restaurants in the city, compared to similar restaurants. The standard "Der Hamburger" is fantastic, especially with cheese and/or bacon. "Der Texaner" is also a good choice. It is very popular so making reservations is recommended. In addition to the small seating area downstairs there is an second floor and an outdoor area where you can enjoy your meal. I have been visiting Munich for the past few days from Chicago and was craving a burger and fries. I'm a vegetarian, and it has been difficult at times to find delicious food that is filling and fits my diet preferences. As soon as my dining companion and i say down, a staff member came over to explain how to order. I was so excited to finally try Hamburgerei, but I was definitely let down. I will say that the fries and wasabi mayo are fantastic! But, the self-service and high prices leave a lot to be desired. I don't particularly care to spend the same amount on a burger I would at better establishments (ahem, Belicious), yet still have to order at a counter. The burger was good, but not so good that I feel compelled to return. If you are in the area, sure, it is worth a stop if you want a burger, but Belicious is still my number 1 burger for Munich! read more

Amazing! Hiding away in a small place, there is this amazing place. We were 4 friends and we were all raving about the food. It's cheap compared to other places, and the burgers are just so tasty! They've got like 7/8 different hamburger variations and also 4 different vegetarian ones, all delicious and made exactly how they should be.
