My wife was looking for cool stuff to do on our drive down to Florida. She stumbled upon the Red…read moreRiver Gorge area (some underground kayaking to be specific). We researched places to eat in the area, and found Miguel's Pizza. It looked good and had decent reviews. The clincher was my new remote coworker (located a few hours away from this area) who confirmed "oh yeah - ANY time we go down there, we get Miguel's!). After our adventure, we scooted over to Miguel's. It's kinda different, to say the least. Big with the campers. You walk up and order, and they'll bring your pizza to you (place your transponder on the marked mat on the table so they can find you!). While we waited, we got a chance to pet a few dogs that were hanging out with their humans. Always a bonus! It's also a cool place to people-watch. The food was UH-MAZING. We got a couple different kinds of pizzas and they were all fantastic. The sausage was the crumbled kind (versus slices or chunks). WINNER! The pepperoni was tasty. The white sauce with chicken was top notch. You can't go wrong! And the prices were extremely reasonable. We enjoyed our meal so much, we bought another round of pies to throw in the car for the next few meals. SO GOOD!

Want to pet a strangers dog and talk about cool rock formations? YOU'RE IN LUCK! THIS IS THE PLACE. Don't fit in with any groups in life? No need to fret... you'll find someone to connect with here. Is it weird? Absolutely... but that's the most charming part. Then we get to the pizza! It's banging! Is it really THAT good, or is it just because there's not many choices around and I'm starving from being a wilderness adventurer? WHO KNOWS AND WHO CARES!? The pizza is the best for some unknown reason. and I'm here for it! Lastly... bathrooms are kinda gross... but so is EVERYONE in that restaurant from walking trails and climbing rocks for 8 hours. It's the price you pay for a cool place like this. TRY MIGUEL'S! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Attached to the local college, this lunch restaurant and farmer's market is quite prominent, with a…read moresubstantial-looking building that's hard to miss driving by. They sell products of the students' work, and I'm always struck by how underutilized Kentucky farm land seems to be relative to the food people actually eat here. The winter selection was modest, as one might expect, with greens, root vegetables, and mushrooms for sale, and a couple of hot lunch options and baked goods. Their chickpea dish was fine; nothing special but a decent lunch. Adding a cake pop was tasty; despite the semi-sweet chocolate flavor it was still definitely sweet. There was a lunch rush, and I imagine the locals fill the place up often.

All the meat sold in the store comes from the locally-grown cows and pigs. As a matter of fact, just about everything that is sold in the store comes from local farms that are worked by students from Berea College. Of course, there were various types of fruits and vegetables, grains sold in bulk, some dairy (cheese and ice cream) and soaps and cleaners. Different types of sandwiches are sold daily (Tuesday -Saturday) and the store was having a plant sale on the day that I visited. I really like the concept of students working and learning a skill as they attend school to get a degree. I cant say enough good things about this store. Its was very clean, the workers were friendly. Some prices were reasonable and some (soaps and cleaners) were maybe a bit high. But higher prices are expexlcted when supply is low. Certainly, I would support this store in the future.
