The cost to reattach my crown was very reasonable and they also did a general exam. I now have dental insurance and still visit this practice. Everyone is so nice, genuinely polite and cares about your well-being. I have never waited over 10 minutes to be seen. The reception area is immaculate and usually decorated for any upcoming holiday. The treatment rooms are also pristine. If you stop by the ladies room, there are free toothbrushes and mouthwash should you need to rinse before the dentist is in your mouth. There are a lot of dentists between my house and Macon Smiles, but I will gladly travel the 30 minutes to get this professional, kind and experience service.

just now New Long…read moreread- I'm an adult woman who is absolutely terrified of the dentist yet it became necessary to have a tooth extracted and I reached out to Oglethorpe Dental and made an appointment because my husband had used them in the past and they were the only dentist office that I was aware of other than an oral surgeon that would do an extraction. When making my appointment because of my anxiety I was offered to be medicated and advised I would arrive- be provided a medication for anxiety and then have to wait one hour - fine. My appointment was at 9 so I arrived a few minutes early-c-rays were done and I paid for the medication which was a separate cost and then waited. About an hour later I was taken to a room and a numbing agent was placed on my gums and I waited for some time before the dr came in and he did several injections which I did not feel and he left me for the numbing to take affect. 40 plus minutes later he was back, all minutes where I laid there thinking about was about to happen and scared beyond measure. The dentist then puts the metal instrument in my mouth and I can still feel it. Be mindful that I am aware of pain Va pressure, I could feel it! The dentist then shoots additional numbing agent into my mouth without speaking t me- he gets my lip and the palate of my mouth and this time I can very much feel the needle "and" much of the medicine in the syringe shoots directly in my mouth and I have to spit it out. I'm again left to wait and in a few moments a nurse walks in ask me if I'm numb and then ask if I need to be referred to an oral surgeon and my response because I'm shocked is absolutley if that is what the dentist thinks- then another nurse comes in and tells me that she is not trying to change my mind but if I'd just stay very still he would get it and I would feel so much better - so I agree and then I again wait , and wait all while I hear friendly conversations going on down the hall- then finally he comes back and says ok I'm going to test it - again I can still feel the metal on what seems like a nerve. Dentist puts tools on counter, never speaks to me and walks out at which point I was referred to an oral surgeon. I was there from 9a til almost 1. I was treated in my opinion horribly and left in additional pain not knowing what I was going to do because they made it a point to let me know the oral surgeon was likely booked 3 months out. This morning I sit here in much better spirits because I was fortunate to get an appointment with Dr. Wright for whom I saw yesterday - I was able to be fit in within a week and survived on my antibiotic and some pain medication which luckily I had available because nothing was prescribed to me. I arrived at Dr Wrights office a few minutes before my 9a appt. I was immediately taken to a room where a nurse stayed with me 100% of the time . I was administered gas for my anxiety , Dr Wright came in and we talked, he numbed me up, we waited a few minutes and we numbed me up some more and before 10a I was out and headed to pick up a prescription for the discomfort I was going to feel these next few days and my tooth was extracted. If you have made it this far I would never recommend Oglethorpe Dental it wasn't even about affordability for me but you def get what you pay - walking away from a patient and no compassion not to mention he liked the use of the word retard for people who couldn't sit still and show fear

In advance we took an antibiotic required for teeth cleaning due to medical conditions. When we got there, the office-quoted cost for self-pay doubled to over $400.00 because of added x-rays. That was declined by the patient. For the Medicare Advantage patient, a bone density probe was done and multiple x-rays; then they presented us with an estimated cost of deep cleaning for around $140.00. No cleaning was given. Antibiotics taken for nothing! We never had this kind of experience under the previous owner of North Macon Dental. Very disappointed - feels like a bait and switch kind of experience.

I actually look forward to going to the dentist---it's that great of an experience! Any who, I showed up early for my appointment and the front desk staff happily got me signed in. I waited about 15mins before I was taken back. The waiting area is desperate need of a remodel. Nothing wrong with it per se-- but with the prices she charges I was expecting something more "glamorous". The office is definitely not what a modern dental office should be. My hygienist did a good job and was very nice. We discussed a small procedure I was interested in and she said Dr. Shah would talk more about it. So we finish up and Dr. Shah comes in moments later. My hygienist tells Dr. Shah about the procedure and it's as if she couldn't care less. She never mentions it again. She spends all of 3 minutes in the room before she was on her way. When I arrived there were 3 people in the waiting room so my assumption is that she is too busy to provide the quality of service I am accustomed to. Nice enough lady nonetheless. After finishing my cleaning, I proceed to the front desk to pay for my visit.( note: she does not take insurance) The total is just shy of $300. I hand over my card and head out the door. As I settle in the car and prepare to drive away I began to realize how underwhelmed I was with my visit. I have no qualms about paying $300 for a dental cleaning. However, at this price point you are no longer paying for a cleaning, you are paying for the experience. You want to be "wowed". You don't get that here. Her facility nor service match the price she is charging. I will not be returning and I do not recommend.

Trip to dentist leads to unexpected diagnosis!…read more The wife and I left Macon 10 yrs ago. Dr Shah had been our dentist and helped my wife with gum issues. Well we just got back to town and my wife saw Dr Shah again after a decade. Of course Dr Shah remembered her condition vividly. After the examination Dr Shah stepped back and said "whooaa." The issue had come back but more aggressively than before. She had seen advance periodontal disease but what could explain such rapid deterioration? She started asking my wife questions. Some that had nothing to do about teeth at all. Long story short.... She told to follow up with an MD. At first the doctor's office did not want to schedule us because we would not have insurance for another 6 weeks or so. I had called several doctors in Macon and not a single one would see us with out insurance. You know what my dentist did? She called, spoke with the doctor, would not take no for an answer and got us in. An MRI later a tumor was found wrapped around my wife's pituitary gland. That is going to be addressed soon and we are hopeful for a bright future. Dr Shah and that staff are simply the best at what they do.

My mom has been having the same ongoing issue with the same crown coming off her crown popped off on July 6, 2023 she wasn't eating anything she was simply TALKING the rude desk staff called on July 10, 2023 for her to come in at 4pm I was hesitant on taking her back to this place because this is unacceptable he forced putting the same crown that clearly doesn't fit as a temporary the same day her face was swollen He didn't numb her when drilling her tooth. He also nicked her tongue with the drill it is now Sunday morning July 16, 2023 and her tongue is still in pain. We are never returning back and I honestly hope he doesn't see another patient again that explains all of the cancellations and open appointments he has. Oh and at my last cleaning he didn't even have the decency to come look at my teeth afterwards. Please please please go elsewhere to a dentist that cares about their patients. UPDATE: 7/20/2023 my mother received a rude voicemail from the unprofessional desk staff stating that it is normal for the dentist to not numb patients before drilling which is insane she is still in pain to this day she was not caring at all about the situation and stated that she will remove us from the schedule which is fine because I never enjoyed having someone in my mouth that is not groomed and looks like he just rolled out of bed. Another dentist had recommended simply replacing the fillings on those teeth. However, that other dentist also recommended putting two crowns on the front tooth. This little kid dentist missed that completely. When I brought this to his attention, he recommended leaving those teeth alone completely. So, we have two different dentists in two different practices with two different opinions of what needs to be done. The common thread is they both chose expensive procedures but for different teeth. They have this really fancy machine that has a wand on it. It goes in your mouth and creates a 3D image of your teeth. From this 3D image, the little kid dentist made his recommendations. He mentioned one tooth was cracked. Was it cracked or was that a surface stain? A surface image won't show that. If only there was some invention that could show the condition of a tooth on the inside to show cracks, decays. If only someone would invent something that could show the actual condition of the teeth. Oh, yeah, like X-Rays which they took but never referenced. Red flag. They had this round faced girl come in and put pointy things in my mouth and said you need a deep cleaning. I looked at her point blank and said we're not doing that! The look on her face just melted like a snowflake. I told her the old name for this procedure which is called splitting the gums? Guess why it was called that and guess why they changed the name? The financial officer came in with a five page amounting to thousands of what they were going to do. Of that, the insurance would only cover 40%. Very fishy that two dentists say two different thing.
