Co-operative Bank

I LOVE this bank. And I HATE banks…read more The people who work here are so helpful and friendly and personable that they make you forget that financial institutions are fundamentally unlovable entities. My husband and I have a really great relationship with one banker here who has held our hand through numerous financial/life shifts in the last few years. She is always patient and kind and thoughtful enough to notice that I've changed my hair again. I never leave feeling like I've been tricked or stolen from or given a sleazy sales pitch. And it's a *bank*.
Membership Collection Agency (M C A)

DO NOT go anywhere near this company!!…read more If I could have given them a zero star rating I would have!! We unfortunately inherited this company when taking over a Health Club, they was collecting memberships from our members twice per month and failed to pay us the monies that they were collecting in our name several times!! Great business etiquette for a company who is set up to help you chase arrears payments eh?? Not only this but once we decided to close our account with this fraudster company down they decided to make more, highly illegal collections of memberships from our members in an attempt to add some more cash to their bank account! David Pontin, the owner, does not and will not have correspondence with you, he hides behind his staff who all claim he isn't on site!! David also does not respond to any of your emails, especially when your asking him to send over the monies he owes you!! He simply uses ignorance and complete refusal to correspond as a way of holding on to your money! I have never in my life come across a company with such poor business etiquette and ability, stay well away from these cowboys!!
I had dealings with this collection agent through my membership of their client gym Key VI Fitness…read morein Nottingham. I cancelled my membership in Sep 2013 and the gym confirmed that no outstanding payments were due. Despite this. MCA continued to pursue me for penalty fees they variously described as 'cancellation fees' or 'dishonoured direct debit' fees. There was no 'dishonoured' payment as the Gym had confirmed I owed nothing for the month in question. MCA started by demanding a penalty fee of £12.50, and then increased it to £25 without any explanation or justification. They would not respond to questions or enquiries from me about the validity of these charges - and were reluctant to drop the matter even after their principal Key VI complained to them directly about the matter and demanded they cancel the charges. They used as their authority for these admin fees, a 'Key Information' clause inserted into the gym membership agreement/direct debit mandate. Namely: "£12.50 for each dishonoured direct debit and each payment that you make otherwise than by direct debit And all other reasonable costs charges and expenses (together with all legal costs recoverable against you) incurred by us in enforcing our rights under this agreement." As it does not cost MCA £12.50 to accept an alternative method of payment, these penalties are likely to offend against the Unfair Terms and Contracts Act and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regs (1999) - and thus would be unenforceable in court. Needless to say I have not paid any such charges; and MCA eventually agreed to drop them, despite them sending intimidating letters threatening court action etc before doing so. I remain very displeased about the way MCA has handled my membership account with Key VI and my cancellation; for their lack of response, poor communication, anonymous emails and the inconsistent information given throughout my dealings with them. I cannot recommend MCA either as a collection agent for gyms nor as a member of one of MCA's client gyms. Nationwide Building Society
The Nationwide in Irthlingborough has got to be one of the smallest building societies that I have…read moreever been in, but it really doesn't matter as it saves me going into Wellingborough or Rushden. There are only 2 counters but it doesn't get really busy like the bigger branches as it tends to be used by the people of Irthlingborough which is a smaller town. They still have an advisor that can set up accounts and direct debits for you and offer the same services that the bigger branches do. There is one cash machine outside too. I think there is only this one and the one over the road outside the Tesco Express. It is a friendly branch and I feel that Irthlingborough is lucky to have a branch of Nationwide. If you live in Irthingborough but don't visit the High Street you may not even know it is there, so it is worth knowing about to save yourself a trip out of town.

Ive been a member of hsbc for about 6years now and my boyfriend has been a member for about 9years,…read morewe thought they were very good which is why we were with them for so long. Recently joining another bank for a mortgage we realised thst hsbc wasnt so great after all they pay very poor interest on joint accounts (we have now switched) and the difference is astonishing! The other problem is you find out how unhelpfull they actually are when you get into a bit of problems with your overdraft (my boyfriend) they just keep adding those charges. anyway i dont have an overdraft with them but when i went overdrawn by £16 which i put money back into straight away i was surprised to see i had been charged £16 aswell, i was shocked but very glad i rang up because they refunded the extortionate charge and the customer service i recieved was very good that day. Sometimes thay are good but their interest rates are getting lower and lower.

Just recently they've had a major face lift and it looks really nice. Gone are the bullet proof glass service counters and the feeling of high security all about you - when you reach into your coat for a pen and worry that they'll be thinking you're getting out your gun. Now it's all open plan and relaxed. They even had a non uniform day last week, bless them. They have some 'consultation' areas where they can sit you down and work out ways they can sign you up to part with more of your money. It is housed in a lovely old building which I remember being Pickerings stationary when I was at school.

The machines took them a while to get sorted, but now that they are, they're really excellent in terms of time saving especially when you're paying money or a cheque in - much better than a lot of banks systems of putting the cheque in an envelope as with the machine you get given a photo of the cheque so that you can prove you paid it in if there's ever a problem - not that I've ever had one.
