This is a great place to browse for books. You can find some real deals on used (and some new) books. Good variety; some random seating; pleasant staff. However, if you're looking to sell books, they only offer pennies on the dollar. I'd rather donate books to Friends of the Library than sell them for what Half Price Books will pay. read more

Nice store. It seems well organized. Prices are what I would expect for used books. The one staff member that helped was pleasant. I stopped by with my two young kids to sell about 50 kids books in decent condition. It was a week day in the middle of the day. I was told it would be about a half hour. That came and went. After struggling to entertain them for an hour, my name was finally called. They offered 81 cents. I told them they could keep it. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had selling books back. I bought in a tub of books that were in Mann condition and they took over an hour to process. I eventually had to leave the store to run an errand and came back and they offered me $.82. She could've literally told me that on the phone I wasted more gas coming back to the store then to come all the way back to the store for $.82 which I told them to go ahead and keep in. Donate to whatever they needed it for.. I would've given a great rating for Customer Service. Has she told me the information over the phone and not wasting my gas. Yelp tells me I have not reviewed this location. I think Yelp removes reviews. I have Yelping for 10 years and come here 100 times, and I know I reviewed it. Half Price is not everywhere like it once was, but there are still a few in town. This one has been here forever, seems like. Great selection of all subjects, plus games, movies, etc. Even magazines. Service is always good. You might not find exactly what you're looking for, but odds are you will, and you will definitely stumble across gems you never knew you needed. Nice kid's section. I came to sell some old college books of mine and was about to get a decent chuck of money for them. All but 2 were in great condition. They don't take any books that have water damage or stuff highlighted/ written inside. The lady was very sweet and took her about 10-15 to check and give me a price. A lot of great books there. This store seems a bit small and the aisles a bit narrow. There were plenty of customers during a midweek afternoon, so some people like the place. I however, couldn't find anything to buy. Magazines sell for fifty cents a piece, which would be great if they had my favorite Real Simple. But no, the only thing coming close was Martha Stewart. Oh well. You know how everyone is familiar with Sudoku puzzles? I'm not interested in Sudoku. There's a logic puzzle called Hidato that I prefer. In fact, I was introduced to Hidato when I bought a book from a Half Price Book store years ago. I was fascinated with it, and when I finished all 200 puzzles in the book I almost felt like I lost my purpose in living. So if I ever find a Hidato puzzle book at Half Price Books I will grab it to my chest and buy every last one of them. Anyway, this store had a scanty selection of puzzle books, and when I asked the cashier if they would order any Hidato books, she said they would probably do so if there was a decent demand for them. While I was bummed they didn't have much of what I needed on my very LONG required reading list for yoga teacher training, the staff there was incredibly helpful. I started by asking (thank goodness I didn't try and find it on my own!) where the yoga books were. All 2 shelves within a big book shelf were tucked in with medical books and across from spirituality (if I recall correctly). They did have a variety and I was tempted to buy a couple things NOT on my list, but I already have a bunch of books I want to read "when I have time" - so like NEVER will. After I only found 1 book, I went back to ask if they had any of the remaining ones I needed at other stores. If there were local copies, they could ship to that store for free and I'd get it within a week or so. Or I could drive to the location that had it. One of the books was across town and they are shipping it over. The other one I ended up getting had to be ordered remotely. For that I'll have to pay shipping. The good news was that I had spent a bunch of time online last night pricing out books on Amazon, HPB and other sources - so I knew if it were a good price or not. All things said, I love to read and could spend hours browsing in a bookstore (or library for that matter). I appreciated the knowledgeable staff and will not hesitate to stop by again when I need something in particular. Or when I have free time - LOL! read more

I love Half price books, and I'm glad to have one close to home. I could literally spend hours in here. When our toddler decided she had to have all of the Berenstain Bears books she could get her hands on, half price books really came through for us. Selling and buying experiences are very different however when selling they offer very little in exchange for your books. They claimed half my books had water damage however all were in brand new or near brand new condition. It took around 30 minutes to get an offer on 9 books. read more

I've been in here several times to sell and buy items. Customer service always seems nice, store is usually moderately busy. Good selection of comics, movies, laserdiscs, records, & books. When selling offers have varied sometimes they've been very good other times not. From what I've taken in my guess is offers are based on how many copies their system has on hand. Ie if you take in say Knockef Up and a ton of mainstream films you're not leaving witn much. I usually try to take advantage when theu have deals like the 20%-50% off one item coupons they send out. Most items are moderately priced while some others seem on the higher side (think ebay type prices) if they're considered "rarer" or less common. read more

Don't let the name dissuade you... this is a great bookstore! I honestly thought this was like one of those plastic table bargain book places... so never visited. Well... that's what I get for judging a book by its cover! I've been missing out. For starters... they have used and new books. I was very impressed by the selection of vintage sci-fi and philosophy... my favored reading. They also have a very good selection of music on cd and lp... lots of puzzles... and audio books. While I was there people were bringing in their used books for trade... seemed like a regular influx. I found several books to buy! Also, it was a nice comfortable store to browse. Been here twice now. I haven't sold any books here but I have bought books and I feel like the prices are reasonable. Check the books before buying though as they may have writing and highlighting in them; if that's something that would be an issue for you. Also, I recommend coming in with a list of books and authors you are looking for to speed up the process. It's not as easy to find stuff here as it is in a newer bookstore but definitely worth the work to save 30-50%. read more

1. Asked if they carried crossword puzzles. Told they had whole case, next to humor. Had 2 books , I'm 5'6", I could barely see top shelves, for some strange reason the top shelves are tilted up. 2. In clearance; looking at one case, which is thoughtfully placed directly in front of employee back room. 6 times employees came out of room, last time I was kneeling, man almost knocked me down when he accidently hit me in the head. Not one employee said, sorry, excuse me, by your leave, Damn this is a stupid place to put a bookcase , are you okay? I didn't mean to kick you in the head. 3. Have books to purchase looking at front stand of books when 2 male employees walked up, one reached down and shoved whole stand in another direction. By this time I'm just stunned,I didn't know the thing moved and the other guy starts laughing, says "she was looking at it", the guy doesn't even look at me and tells the laughing guy, I didn't notice anybody. still not looking at me he sarcastically says over his shoulder I can move it back, I'm now standing in an open spot. Let me add these two fellows were not noticing me earlier either when they were making fun of management's directions to clean up the place, make sure there was stuck in the under shelving, blah blah employee that didn't notice me up front snorted through his nose.. At managements directions, complaining he didnt have the stock, complaint about eveything. Ya don't have the stock because this brick & mortar is run by half price idiots. I would rather buy books from thrift stores, Amazon, libraries, yard sales, better world books, eBay, then donate them to the library for free. I made sure the chief idiot noticed me as I left, dropped the books I had on the nearest shelf, gave him my best Army salute, because I served & know how, but Half Price Books has to get the last word in. He laughed at me and in the same whiny tone he used about management told me to have a nice day and to come back. This is truly "Bargain Shopping" at its best. I've been a big fan of Half Price Books ever since their arrival into the Columbus market. The Westerville store is especially dear to me. The management and staff bend over backwards to help me. (They're very flexible - ha, ha :-) You can call them up on the phone and ask them to find any book you desire to see if it's in stock prior to making the trek over there. The key here is that they don't have any books registered on their computer system. They will actually go through the store looking for your book selection while you wait on the phone. Now that's service! Don't worry. They usually take less time doing a search the "old-fashioned" way than it would take most bookstores doing it the "new-fangled" way with their fancy-shmancy computers. You won't be disappointed with the book selection. They may not have the latest book releases, but they have most of the older ones. Name the category and they've got it covered. From recipes to religion, there's something for everyone to read at Half Price Books. This store is nice and big and even more importantly, very well organized. Please remember, if you can't find what you're looking for, one of the "flexible" employees will be ready to help you in your search. What's the best part about Half Price Books? The name, of course. The books are CHEAP. I mean dirt cheap and most of them are in excellent condition too. Now that's killing two birds with one stone, wouldn't you say? Also a great location, maybe not as good as the one on High Street or Upper Arlington, but still awesome like the rest! Who can beat magazines at 50 cent each, free coffee, plenty of chairs to sit and lounge at, a nice CD selection for my husband and games and books for my son. I have shopped and sold books at this Half Price Books location, but I have never been treated so rudely as last week. The woman working at the sell-back counter was discourteous from the get-go: asking if I had an appointment, going to my vehicle to get the books, giving me my receipt and my box back, etc. In addition, customers were blatantly disregarding signs in the store regarding social distancing, yet this employee was upset that I wanted to hold the door open rather than use the door stop for her cart? read more

It's an above average bookstore with some great prices on things as well as pricey options on others. Great place to buy books/movies/music.....not a great place to sell as you won't get much $ in return which makes sense for how great the prices are to buy. Has become my favorite spot for vinyl shopping, the selection is moderate in size and can't compare to vinyl dedicated stores like Used Kids or Magnolia...but I always find a nice stack of albums to purchase at great prices. read more

What a great little bookstore! I now live in the city with the largest bookstore in the world, but I still find that I crave Half Price Books. This location is a little smaller than most, but it's still full of good finds and friendly staff. There's always a pot of semi-decent free coffee, and usually you can find a chair or two. read more

Maybe because they are a bit more out of the way than the more central locations, but on my most recent visit they had a decent selection of vinyl that was mostly reasonably priced! The other locations have had increasingly poorly depleted, and over-priced, selection of vinyl LPs. Lots in the 2.98-4.98 range that I actually wanted, and a nice stack of surprises in the dollar bins underneath. Nice, clean, new store and the staff didn't seem snooty like the other stores have sometimes had a reputation for (though they have gotten better over-all). read more

Let me preface this, I really like half-price books, I just detest this location. The prices seem to skew to the higher end, as opposed to other locations in Columbus. Also, their purchasing program is awful. I've sold to several different half-price locations and never before have I felt so ripped off. I went in to sell some I brought in nearly 50 books and 2brand new movies and was offered $11. But that's not the worst part of the experience it's that when giving me my quote after being forced to stand in the store for 30 min my crate I brought my books in was not returned to me and when I called 2 days after I visited they had thrown it away and the the associate I spoke with told me it was my fault it was my crate.Not only will I never spend a dime here I will never give them another book they gave a horrible process and horrible employee. read more

Pros: good selection and price, in a good location. Cons: made me feel like I committed a crime when I resold my DVDs. Let me preface this by saying that I went to film school. I have a LOT of DVDs. Many of which I have never bothered opening, because I got them as gifts and didn't want them, or because I received them but have this wonderful thing called Netflix where a ton of things are already at my fingertips (The Office, Weeds, Dexter, Supernatural). I needed some extra cash, and these DVDs are in amazing condition and just collecting dust and not being used. So I bagged up two totes worth and hauled them in. After about 40 minutes, I get a call that I have an offer waiting. It wasn't too bad of an offer - lower than I knew I could get online, but reselling a DVD one by one online is a huge hassle. I tried to make polite conversation with the girl at the counter, who wasn't very responsive. It was then I noticed that her demeanor was very uncomfortable. Suddenly, she says "you know, we find it very CURIOUS that you have such a large number of unopened DVDs here." It really didn't take a rocket scientist to deduce what she was implying. I tried to be polite about it, explain I had accumulated them over the years and with Netflix I didn't need them, but really I was in shock that I would be so obviously accused of this. Look, I understand that kind of thing does happen, and that's really awful. But what's equally awful is making an honest person feel like a criminal. For lack of a better way of putting it, Ms. Reseller, you don't know my life, and for you to flat out accuse me of theft is extremely unprofessional and insulting. I didn't and don't owe you an explanation for why I am reselling my unopened DVDs. The only reason I'm offering it here is to publicize your unprofessionalism and rudeness towards your customers. read more

The customer service here is HORRIBLE. I dropped off 30 items including the new fallout boy cd, a blu ray dvd, and 3 books from barnes & noble. The young girls working the repurchasing desk were giggly & unprofessional from the start, so my expectations were low from the beginning. After waiting 10 minutes they told me they would offer me $10, to which I said "no thanks." When I asked the girl about the individual pricing breakdown, she seemed short and said we'll offer you $10 for these items only. In reality, I was inquiring to see whether one of the items was being purchased for $5, b/c then I would sell the individual item as needed. However, I soon realized they aren't interested in paying normal amounts for your items, and generalize instead so they can rip you off. When I returned home, I called to speak with the store manager about my experience. I found out quickly the Manager is also unprofessional. I told her several of the dvds I was selling are currently in store for $5 a piece. She then proceeded to tell me they donate some items so they can't offer as much money. So I'm supposed to give you my items for free? lol I don't think so. When I told the Manager pricing was a separate issue, and her staff was unprofessional she instantly got defensive with me. Wouldn't a normal manager say we apologize for your experience, we appreciate your feedback, and will look into the situation? Guess that's where the staff learns their behavior. I came to this place looking to sell some records and books. I brought in two large boxes full of books and records. After an hour or so of waiting, they call me up. For all I brought I was given a lousy $5. All of those items were mint condiion. I don't understand how I could get only $5 for a lot of good items. What a waste. I would never go to this location as my main destination for a trip-but I was in the area the other day(the Westerville BMV is the best one around IMHO) and decided to stop in since I was in the neighborhood. These types of used bookshops are really hit or miss, I could go one day and not find a single thing I was looking for, and go another day and find everything I was looking for, and then some. The other day was one of those trips where I found a few paperback versions of some books I've been looking for, you can't really beat 3 books for just under $3. Especially a D.H. Lawrence novel and two books by E.L. Doctorow I've been looking for.... Anyway, the other day the store seemed really disorganized, which is kind of a bad thing when the store is not set up with a catalogue system. It just seemed like maybe it hadn't been combed over and reset after a busy weekend though. I wouldn't fault them too much on that. Overall the selection seemed pretty good, and the movie area looked to be well-stocked. It's Half Price Books! There's nothing here not to fall head over heels for. read more

One of my least favorite locations. I hate the parking here, the clearance books are $2 where other locations are $1, and it's just kind of small and awkward. But it is filled with books and books are my favorite. It's also in my hometown and next to Panera and Starbucks, so it's fun to spend an afternoon picking out a cheap book and going to read it all afternoon with coffee and a snack. read more

I love this store. The staff has always been helpful, helping me find specific books. I like the atmosphere. It has a real, classic bookstore vibe. No, I don't make much money when i resell books - even ones I have bought new - but at least I know someone else will be ale to afford to buy whatever I sell. Any books they can't resell are recycled. And, as others have noted, it's next to a Panera and by Starbucks. A perfect spot. I have been to the Lewis Center and campus locations. The Westerville one is my favorite. read more
