After a lifetime of service, our family expected--at the very least--that he would be honored with dignity and respect. Instead, what we received from this funeral home and from funeral director **Stephen Kemp Jr.** was carelessness, disregard, and a level of disrespect that left our family deeply hurt. We arranged for my brother's cremation and a memorial service scheduled for **July 18th**. Mr. Kemp was responsible for ensuring that my brother received his **military honors**, a **personalized VA urn**, and a **flag**--all standard for veterans. **None of these were provided. Not one.** After the service, I called repeatedly. My messages were ignored. At one point, I was placed on hold for **20 minutes**, and no one ever picked up. When I called back, Tracy told me someone would return my call. Eventually, Mr. Kemp responded and claimed he had the date down as **July 22nd**--a date that was never discussed and had no connection to anything we planned. When I went to pick up my brother's ashes, Mr. Kemp told me that if I wanted my brother's honors, I could "go to a veteran cemetery and have the honors done there." **I was shocked and devastated.** After everything my brother gave to this country, this was the solution offered to us? They had asked for my brother's photo for the personalized urn, and I provided it immediately. To discover that not only was the urn not prepared, but every promised honor was ignored--it felt like the ball wasn't just dropped, it was shattered. Mr. Kemp then suggested that *I* go to a veterans cemetery on my own to fix *his* mistake. When I returned to pick up my brother's ashes, he apologized, handed me a flag, and said the certificate and honors would be handled "through the mail." **To say I was emotionally traumatized by his lack of empathy is an understatement.** It felt that the respect due to a veteran depended on how much money was spent. I paid for services that were never provided. I trusted this funeral home to honor my brother, and instead we were left feeling dismissed, disrespected, and painfully aware that the level of care we received seemed tied to the price tag--not to my brother's service or his sacrifice.

Where do I start with Honor Memorial? We used this company on our family's recommendation because…read morethey did a great job. However, this was not our experience at all. Let's start with the fact that it took 3 hours after the original call for them to pick up my father, in the heat. After one person arrived, we still waited for a co-worker from Ann Arbor to arrive, an additional 30 minutes before he was taken into their care. Joe called me around 12 that day to let me know he would call later with information. He never called; in fact, every time Joe said he would call me back, he never did. I called almost every day to get information on what was happening with the body and what paperwork and such we needed to do. Finally, around Wednesday/Thursday, we received the paperwork to have him "taken into their care" and give them the ability to cremate. On Friday, 7/17, I called looking for an update and was told by Joe that he was "confident" my father would be ready on Tuesday. He also said he would call. I honestly did not wait for Joe to call because of his track record with calling me back. When I called on Tuesday afternoon, they did not have my father's death certificates back or his death certificate, and blamed it on the county circuit court. Finally, after much frustration, I called on Wednesday and demanded to know when I could pick up my father. Joe then went on to have a conversation with me about my gaslighting, implying that we had discussed timelines and how much the service cost before. We had in fact never had these conversations; the only time we spoke in length was when he was trying to convince my family that we shouldn't see his body.....which I wonder why?? He went as far as to say it might traumatize us. Finally, my mother and I went to pick up his ashes and death certificates on Wednesday. We then took Thursday to recover mentally and physically, as my mother and I are both disabled. Imagine my surprise when Joe called me multiple times on Friday about a review that my sister-in-law had left. She had apparently left a negative review, and he wanted to talk to me about it. He continued to try to tell me information about my experience that was untrue. In fact, I was so confused about what he was talking about that I put him on speaker, and my immediate family sat in awe. I would not recommend this place at all. If I could leave less than one star, I would. It seems like they are more concerned with being a body factory, picking up way too many people than they can handle, and not keeping families in the loop. Please take your loved one somewhere else; maybe they will be more concerned about their clients and less concerned about their reviews.

I am extremely disappointed with how this funeral home handled the situation involving my baby…read more I signed cremation authorization paperwork as my baby's father, but later, when I was trying to receive some of my baby's ashes, I was told that my authorization had been "disregarded." When I asked about the paperwork, I was also told that my signature was basically only a "courtesy." That was one of the most hurtful parts of this entire experience. I could not understand how I could be asked to sign paperwork involving my own baby's cremation, but then later be told that my signature and authorization essentially did not matter. I also had to go through multiple requests for additional permission, identification, and written authorization before I could receive my baby's ashes. The entire process was confusing, stressful, and emotionally draining at a time when I was already grieving. There were also communication issues, including problems involving email addresses and information being sent back and forth. I repeatedly tried to cooperate and provide whatever was being requested because my only goal was to bring my baby home. I eventually was able to receive my baby's ashes, and I am thankful for that, but I should not have had to go through everything I experienced to get there. I also recently spoke with a manager named Michael about my concerns. Unfortunately, I found him to be rude, dismissive, and lacking compassion toward what I had experienced. This was not a minor customer service issue. This involved my child, my baby's cremation, and my baby's ashes. No grieving parent should ever be told that their signature was only a "courtesy" or that their authorization was "disregarded." Families dealing with the loss of a child deserve compassion, professionalism, clear communication, and respect.

My mother-in-law passed away in the middle of the night while under hospice care. we were told we needed to choose a facility immediately for transport. Our plan was a simple cremation, but we also wanted the opportunity to see her one last time to ensure she was treated with dignity. When we contacted the company, we " no one allows that" which is completely untrue. Other funeral homes later confirmed that viewing prior to cremation is absolutely allowed. we were also told we would be charged $500 just for the pickup. While we were willing to pay, the situation became far more distressing when they refused to release her without her estranged husband's signature-even though they have been separated for over 25 years. The funeral home we ultimately chose even reached out to them several times including at 3:30 Pm because they had not followed through as expected. It felt like our loved one was being held hostage until payment was made, which we paid immediately without hesitation. We were also questioned about whether we were having her cremated still, and why we were choosing another cremation provider, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional given the circumstances. The funeral home we ended up working with has been in business for over 60 years and told us they had never encountered behavior like this. During a time when compassion, professionalism, and respect are critical, this experience was the exact opposite. i would strongly urge others to carefully consider their options.
