We first walked in and immediately felt the passion that both Katie and Michelle had for not only teaching but for the kids. And it's definitely evident when we see them with our child. Below are just some of the many reasons we love the school: They follow the DOE (department of education) calendar. If you have other kids, you know how important it is to have them all off at the same time for vacations!  Small class sizes. The kids get the one-on-one they not only need, but deserve. The teachers really get to know the kids on a personal level and it shows when they do the parent teacher conferences. They are able to articulate where your child is excelling and where they need extra attention and give you the support you need to help them at home.  Strong Montessori foundation. We've explored many other types of schools but have found that Montessori is the absolute best for our child. She's just started Kindergarten and will be well above 2nd grade level once she's finished.  After school programs. The school offers many exciting after school programs that the kids love like soccer, dance, science and even yoga. These really benefit us in particular because they go beyond the normal school hours and work best with our work schedules.  Price. Very affordable especially considering the quality education that the kids receive and there are plenty of programs for financial assistance (preschool open doors).  Cultural/environmental awareness. One thing we really love is how our child is now very aware of their environmental footprint and how they can make positive changes. For instance, they have a Monk Seal responder team that will actually go out and meet when there is a Monk Seal sighting. This hands on approach is such an amazing way for the kids to learn. Also, the school is great at having lessons based on the Hawaiian culture and Maui in general.  Mahalo Nui Little Monk Seal Montessori!

So...if you are unhappy, by all means there are public schools who, since I teach at them I can say with complete certainty, will take EVERY kind of student. If you desire a specified educational experience- which, since I am currently enjoying the second of my three children at Carden for middle school, I can also say with first-hand experience - then you pay for it. Fish or cut bait. This school is loving, caring, kind, nurturing, and everything you pay for. Sorry some people want something for nothing. Public schools have been fine for my kids; Carden is a gift.

The teachers are intelligent, compassionate, and loving beyond belief. They are sometimes overloaded with many more children than they should have, and yet these teachers rise above everything and shine. Yet often the numbers are perfect and everyone always gets the attention they need, regardless of the degree of challenge to the tireless teachers. I am a substitute teacher and I stand in total honor of the daily educators here. Patient, fair, loving, and real. I can't recommended Pukalani school enough.
