I think in my head I expected this to be something more. Sure, when redheads pass on the street you give a nod, or silently acknowledge one another. But an entire festival full of gingers? That I couldn't miss. I've always been proud of my hair color because it sets me apart. I was never bullied for it, and as a child I had the bright coppery color that all the old ladies seemed to notice. As I've grown up, it's gotten lighter and is more of a caramel color these days. Still, I'm very fond of it and am happy to stand out. So clearly, I belonged at this festival. But I guess I was expecting something else. I think I'd fantasized something like a dozen gingers running up to me saying, "Grant! You're here! We've been waiting for you." Not really, but I think the point I'm trying to make is that when we're by ourselves, we stand out. We're unique. We're special. But put us all together and we're just another redhead. It's humbling, actually. The festival itself consisted of about 10 booths or so. Mostly alcohol vendors, Yelp, a t-shirt tent, and I think there was carrot cake and popcorn. Aside from drinking (which kind of perpetuates the Irish stereotype, but I digress) there wasn't much to do at this festival other than stand around and talk to or look at other redheads, which got old real quick. No offense to anyone I spoke with. But there wasn't much food, and the entertainment left a little to be desired. I guess this festival just wasn't for me. I hope to see it grow into something amazing in the future.

We came here for the very first Chicago Red Stars game. They will be here permanently (?) starting…read morenext season. We were told a shuttle bus would take us to the stadium from the Central Station Purple Line. Even after being picked up and dropped off, it was a 5-8 minute walk to the stadium. There was signage to show us where to go, otherwise we just followed people around us. The directions are to get off at Noyes and walk 20 minutes. I wonder if shuttles will be available during the regular season. Of course the residential/campus areas were swamped with cars so walking is probably better. We got through security no problem, no hassles, but they should have more gates and detectors if they are going to have games here! There were food trucks and booths with alcohol, merch tents, Porto Potties (heck no!) and tents selling food that was of course overpriced. It was a very nice day, cloudy with sun and dry; I can IMAGINE what it's like when it rains! NO indoor spaces to buy food, except a couple of huge tents? I was expecting a Soldier Field/Wrigley field structure where one can move to seats and stay inside but really stacked bleachers. The food trucks were ok but food was not super hot. The field had timers and score boards but not facing south, where we sat. We had to crane to see the score. There should be scoreboards on all sides. We found some indoor restrooms at half time thank goodness, and they were clean. Instead of going back to the seats we walked around and bought more concessions in the patio area. A medical company was giving away prizes, and we were able to see the scores on a big tv (Stars won!) plus there was a play area for kids. The lake view was very nice, I'm glad the Stars are pushing the lakefront attribute, but I can't say I would look forward to coming here regularly, esp as the weather becomes very hot or very cold, as there is no protection from the elements.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this museum yet, I've been here 2x now but it had been a while…read morein between so it was so fun to see the different friends that I didn't get to notice last time. When driving by it's a rather unbecoming home that is actually the home to over hundreds of sock monkeys. You can either come in and enjoy the activities like build a sock monkey, or shop around and visit the longest resident sock monkey. Or you can go upstairs and visit the museum for a small fee and learn all about the history. You also get the opportunity to complete the scavenger hunt which is no small feat once you start staring at them for a period of time. We had a great time and can't wait to come back and see the new sock monkies that still have yet to be displayed!

Before we even made it out of the front room, he was already yelling at us & belittling the minors in our group. We came with a group of history buffs who were excited to check out his collection. Welcome to the world of the ECHL where anything is possible. The Sears Centre is home to a new hockey club (Chicago Express) where if you want to hear the slashing sounds on the ice or the roaring whistle of a train as a goal is scored; you are more than welcome. Chicago has been lucky enough to be granted with three levels of professional hockey and this is definitely no exception. An Affiliate of the NHL's Blue Jackets, the Express skate with determination and skill that make it perfect to watch while they are growing as professional players. The venue itself isn't overly large and offers pretty much a decent seat from both sides of the rink. The Sears Centre suits the bill for holding the sounds of the ice and the crowd without making you think there could be a concert the next night. Because the Express club is still so fresh and so clean, seats are readily available for every game. We're talking, if you wanted to be bangin' on the glass come this Saturday (or when the next home game is) you'll probably find out that your luck--is in tact. For this particular outing, I ended up sitting rows behind the benches for which I have to admit...I am skeptical and should have opted for the other side but couldn't for the life of me get the ticket site figured out. Ten rows up from the ice is still a pretty sweet view--even if you're somewhat behind the benches. The crowd has taken the Express to heart already which is very warming, because they are a brand new franchise. Loud cat calls, whistles and screams to skate to the center is something that will be of a common fixture for the night. Tickets are definitely affordable. To sit in the lower 100 level tickets start as low as $17, and sitting behind the glass if that is your fancy is only $25. For anyone in need of getting a hockey fix this is a great option to choose from. Parking itself is standard for the Centre, look to spend about $10 to park easily across the way from the arena entrance.

The pizza was tasty which can be hot or miss at a bowling alley. The night was really fun and I am excited about my friend's son and the next chapter of his life.
