The items are well priced (especially for coveted Koa wood). We came home with lovely items for ourselves and gifts. They even have the highly prized Damascus blades with Koa wood handles. This is more of a traditional knickknack store than true antiques; everything is dirty and most of it isn't worth the prices. I asked the cashier if they had anything I was looking for and got a stupid grin and a shake of the head like those were ridiculous requests. I took a walk around looking through everything and didn't notice a lot of local flavor or anything unique. I definitely have to put the emphasis on the "and Stuff" part of the name.

We would have meetings on the Big Island every so often. After our gatherings, we'd roam around the town! This store still has amusing gifts, practical items, and cute stuff! It has postcards, jewelry, t-shirts, plushies, baby items, children's toys, Aloha shirts, soaps, lotions, books, Hello Kitty merchandise, tote bags, greeting cards, and more! A few days ago I spent hours looking all over the strip n nobody had them, they only had men Aloha shirt, my husband has about 25! Then I looked in Kauai, Maui no luck till I got to Hilo, big island. A few years ago I had found the Hawaiian tote bag here too for just $14. I walked into Joy gift shop n immediately noticed on the mannequin the light green Aloha blouse MADE IN HILO! wow how did this happen, I don't like made in China stuff unless I had no choice. It was also size xtra small that fitted me perfectly I bought 2, a light green n dark green with matching necklaces made of fake pearls, I wanted to buy the whole rack but all other colors were all size small that would only fit a whale! lol , they were proudly made by the same family since 1957! It's made of rayon which usually requires dry cleaning but the low price $40 n necklace only $5 made it worth it. They had all kinds of gifts n fashion jewelry I bought quite a few gifts for my grandkids. I don't understand why somebody would report this business as closed, it is 100% open n full of customers bc of very reasonable prices n huge selection of Aloha clothing for men, women n children. The owner was super welcoming, helpful, and informative! Even saw him spot a fake card which was cool, love me some passionate people. I arrived on a trivia night and was able to join a table. The venue is a bit small for my tastes and how busy it was seems like they could easily double their real estate and still might not be enough, this place was popping every night I walked in. Woohoo this is where the party is in town hahahaha perfect spot to pop by with friends play a game or two and then hit the local tavern nearby, so plan for a whole evening of goodtimes laughter and local libations if you stop by. The book store is fairly new and spacious. It is conveniently located near the school's parking lot...easy to spot! It also has an entrance that leads into the dining room. It is perfect for student's on the run in need of a quick visit. So, if you are looking for supplies or souvenirs, check out UH Hilo's Bookstore, you'll thank me for that!
