I was excited to find another place that offers curly cuts/Deva cuts and thought this could be a great alternative when in need. They got me in within a week for a curly cut with a woman who I'll refer to as "J". J had good reviews on yelp so I gladly accepted the appt. Upon arriving, I told her that I only wanted a dusting and she even agreed that my hair was very healthy and barely needed trimmed. I explained that I'll be getting highlights in the next few months and that i don't want to cut too much right now because I'd plan on cutting after the highlight appt (due to the damage processing can do to our curls). She acted like she understood (or At least i took it that way) and she spent about 10-15 mins cutting my hair. I felt like she was cutting a lot but couldn't see from the chair to the mirror (plus the lighting was very dim) so i didn't know for sure. I opted for no wash/style after the cut because i was just kind of bothered by the whole thing. I got up to look at my cut and saw way more hair than I'd expected on the floor. I said "wow, you cut a lot of hair off" and she replied with saying "you have a lot of hair". I didn't think that much more of it at the time until I got home and saw how much shorter my hair really was. While I don't think the actual cut itself looks terrible, I'm very upset by how J completely disregarded my wishes and cut a good 3"+ off my hair. Other curly girls will especially understand why it's so upsetting to have a stylist unexpectedly cut off so much hair. Growing curly hair is a lot of work and i think a lot of us struggle to get to a length we're comfortable with. Thankfully, I was able to get in with my usual salon to fix and re-shape my hair this week. J seemed like a nice person but obviously not a good listener. Plus, to completely disregard a clients wishes is unprofessional in my opinion. I'll include some before and after shots. ** Update: While having this hair "trim" fixed by my usual salon, they noticed that J ruined all the layers that had been in my hair. Where there should be long layers, there were some of the shortest. It was all backwards. So now I'm questioning if J truly knows how to cut hair? Or was she just incredibly careless with me? We had to do damage control and cut more just to even out the damage she did to my shape. I wish I would've known that a simple trim would turn into a huge haircut. I would've better mentally prepared myself.

I was originally scheduled with Kat, but because she was sick she wasn't in on the day I was scheduled, and that's okay I'm usually flexible. So someone called me the day before asking if I wanted to 'reschedule with Kat or if I wanted to still do it today there's another stylist who is very experienced, is on the same level as Kat, and will do a really good job' so I said sure I can switch. I go in to my session yesterday and show her the same pictures I had sent Kat. The girl said in order to get the color i want we would need to lighten my hair and then tone it. So I said okay. About a quarter way through her lightening my hair I asked if it was a dye. She said it was bleach. I didn't know lightening hair was bleaching, but it makes sense and that's my fault for not clarifying. I figured she knew what she was doing so I continued on with it and didn't say anything. After like 4 hours we washed the bleach out and she put a toner in and my hair ended up being an orange/yellow. I was going for the complete opposite of that, like an ash brown kind of color. I couldn't even say anything about how much I didn't like it because I was there all day and just wanted to leave and didn't feel good about my hair. I go home. I look her up on Instagram and I find out she's an apprentice. I understand people need to practice and learn but I really wish whoever scheduled me would've been honest about the level she is on. The next morning I call back because I just can't walk around looking how I looked, especially since I am going to a wedding. I get it retoned by the same girl and yes it's better, but it still is not even close to what I was going for. Instead it's a little bit more closer to my original hair color just slightly darker. I feel like my hair is ruined from the bleach. It's so brittle. And I honestly feel like I could've done the exact same thing with a box dye from Walgreens and spent $15 rather than $245. I wish my hairstylist would have told me it would take multiple sessions to get to my color goal or just say she didn't know how to. Not giving 1 star because she at least was willing to try and fix it. And it's my own fault for not knowing she was going to bleach my hair. She was really sweet and I just feel bad that I didn't like it. I really wanted to.

Stylists rent their booths. I like my stylist. That being said there is a decided right wing rant (think Rush) initiated on a regular basis by one of the employees. For me that is a huge mood kill that causes me to stretch my time between appointments. I am now at 5 months and grabbing my own scissors. Politics and religion are best left alone and should never be initiated by employees. A skillful stylist would redirect the conversation not start it. At best you offend half your clientele. At worse you drive them away with a subsequent loss to the salon and other stylists.
