I asked her to highlight the back of my hair which was still dark and she added more blonde to my entire hair taking away all my lowlights which wasnt a big deal as I didnt mind all the blonde even though this was not what I asked for. What was upsetting was I specifically asked her to only trim 1 centimeter off my length and she got crazy scissor happy and began to add layers everywhere which does not work with fine thin hair. At one point I literally grabbed her hand and asked her not to do a face frame which she insisted on doing. The total was well over $300 and my husband said my hair looks like it lost a fight with a lawnmower. I called to speak to a manager and and my call was never returned.

This place is fabulous!…read more A bunch of hairdressers who were tired of the crap they took at their regular salons got together and created one they way they wanted it - and they did a helluva job! The salon itself is really beautiful. Big open space, decorated with just enough panache to be interesting, not so much you are rolling your eyes - Goldilocks perfect. The stations are open and make the most of the space - which is quite large. Excellent natural light from the windows covering half of the wall space, so it feels even more open and welcoming. They keep it really clean, which is really nice for a salon. The bathrooms are spotless, and the rest of the place looks first client-fresh all day. My hairdresser, Laurie - who I recommend wholeheartedly - is so happy there. She's been at a number of salons in the city and she feels completely at home here. So - a moment just for Laurie - she is amazing. Seriously knows her stuff, but will do whatever you want. You know how some hairdressers listen to what you want with your very own hair an then do something totally different? I hate that SO MUCH! Laurie is so not like that - she talks to you before she does anything, makes sure she knows what you want and discusses the entire process with you before she starts. On top of that, if you aren't really certain what you want, she will make all kinds of awesome suggestions and it is in your best interests to listen to her. She really does know her stuff. Plus - she is just really nice and fun to talk to - pretty important in a hair dresser! Regarding the review written by Sara P: Kayla was all about Groupon and Living Social, and that seemed to be going well, but she had a family emergency and actually moved back home to another state to help her family. Living Social is supposed to be handling refunds, but the other hairdressers at Shear Brilliance would be happy to provide you with the service you requested. I understand you were frustrated, but leaving a 1-star review for an entire business, composed of multiple independent contractors, based on your limited interactions with one person, especially now that you know the extreme circumstances - well, it's just not fair. Anyway - I truly love Shear Brilliance and support them wholeheartedly. They are a wonderful group of people, doing a job they love in a place they created together, and it's just plain fun to go there. Please give it a try - Laurie is the best, but all of them are worth your time and money.

AVOID THIS PLACE. Their cancellation policy is extremely rigid, and they enforce it with zero…read moreexceptions--even in genuine unforeseen circumstances. After looking through other 1-star reviews, it's clear this is a recurring issue for many loyal clients who were treated the same way. What makes it worse is that there are reviews where the owner admits they cancelled clients' appointments because a stylist was sick or to adjust their own schedule, yet they do not offer customers the same consideration. The lack of consistency and fairness is very disappointing. The receptionist I spoke with was unprofessional and unnecessarily harsh. Instead of showing any understanding, she repeated the policy in a condescending tone and made guilt-tripping comments like "these are the stylists' careers" and "you're affecting their income." That is not an acceptable way to speak to customers, especially when emergencies or illnesses happen. A good salon understands that life happens and handles situations with empathy and flexibility. Unfortunately, this business seems more focused on enforcing fees than providing good customer service or retaining loyal clients. If you value fair treatment and professionalism, I strongly recommend choosing a more reputable salon that treats customers with basic respect.

As a business owner, your word is your worth, and to be told in both a text message and voicemail that you would issue a refund and to willingly not follow through on that is a slimy business practice. Trisha managed to cut and dry my hair in 20 minutes and both of my children's hair in another 20 minutes, totaling only 40 minutes for $200 worth of services. Not only did this feel rushed, but my daughter's haircut was noticeably uneven, and I had to fix it myself at home. She attempted face framing layers and I can't even describe what she gave her. Unfortunately, the front will need to grow in. Thankfully, she didn't really do much to mine or my son's hair, or it would have been even more of a disaster. For the price we paid, I expected much more care and attention to detail. I definitely do not recommend this place. I am shocked she is a licensed professional because none of the services felt professional. Stay away.
