Honestly, I don't write a whole lot of reviews, and I contemplated about writing this because there really is no way for this haircut to be "fixed", other than just wait for it to grow out; which is going to take forever (probably close to a year or more to get back to how it was before! ). It has been about a month since getting my haircut, and I'm still so bummed/upset about it. I wear it up basically everywhere I go (which also isn't the same as it was before because of the short layers and extremely thinned out density), because I can't stand the way it looks down. With lots of styling it looks a TINY bit better, but I specifically went in for a cut that didn't require any (or very very minimal styling) because I'm a busy mom of three. Anyways, I don't know if this was just a massive mistake because I know others have been very happy with this stylist, but I am still absolutely horrified at how much hair was taken off w/ thinning shears and how thin my overall density is now (hair was literally at least twice as thick before). It also is just so terribly straggly looking from middle to ends of my hair. The layers are also extremely short. The shortest ones being above my ear (which I requested layers no shorter than my chin). On top of all that, it is shorter on one side and looks like chunks are missing (especially on the front and sides of my hair!!). read more

What really else is there to say. Karl is simply an amazing barber and hair stylist. He listens, he's able to really understand the concerns with your hair, and take what you're describing into a beautiful final product. When he cuts my hair, it feels like were a team working towards a goal. The salon isn't flashy, newly renovated, it doesn't offer many special or trendy services. Its just a great and affordable place to get a really good tailored haircut. Can't recommend Karl enough. read more

Honestly it's been a month and my hair is awful, it's messes with my self esteem I had to go into my new job looking like this. And it's not what I asked for at all. Robert cut my hair. I asked for layer showed a picture with shortest layer next jaw sculpting the face. Instead I get a mullet and the bang area is VERY uneven I look ridiculous with all the Bobby pins and hair up and I can't even style it because I don't have time nor do I even know how which I clearly stated to him. I remember coming here a year ago and Karl cut my hair and asked questions about every length along the way . Robert assumed what I wanted and kept asking about my life (which is fine but I get easily distracted please ask about my hair!) once the hair was already in mullet form is when he said "you can let me know if you don't like it" that's when I realized what haircut he gave me and I wanted to like it so bad I convinced myself until I was out of the salon. I was a self-color person, and as a result, my hair was a mess. I went to Hair Technics, and problem solved! I don't know about prices, but I do know that Karl charged me less for a cut and color than most places charge just for one or the other. This is one very satisfied customer! Oh, another thing--I went back to get my hair cut, and the only thing I knew was that I was sick of the cut I had. Karl found the perfect cut for me. More than that, he taught me how to use my styling brush to give it lift and body--all for no extra charge. Really great place! read more

For nearly two decades, my husband and I have been going to Hair Technics. Karl knows how to listen to his clients about what works for their hair. He also applies his inclusive knowledge of hair care to the task. Today, I had my regular henna treatment which gives my fine hair tremendous volume and makes it easy to manage. Karl also applies his approach for cutting fine hair to further enhance the hair's cohesiveness and manageability. Furthermore, Karl recommends helpful products such as: Joico Hairspray, which helps my hair look good in windy, humid and / or cooler weather. Besides all his hair expertise, Karl is pleasant, accommodating, humorous, and a good conversationalist while making the client look and feel better. I have been going here for over 20 years. I have the same stylist and the company is owned by the same owner. The prices do not go up each month ... and at $25 for a shampoo, (great) cut, and style, it's very, very affordable. I get whole head highlights, using 2 colors, including the shampoo, cut, and style for about 1/4 the price of Gada... you know. Moreover, I am totally satisified every, single time - never a mishap, never a bad cut, never bad color, never not happy. They use Joico products, as well as other brands of styling products (like Argan oil, different mousses, gels, sprays, etc.) and my stylist may use them on me, but doesn't push me to buy them. If I say, "Hey, what's that?" He will tell me and offer it to me, but there is never any pressure. No lie. He is the only male stylist I've ever met who can do French Braids and while he doesn't do fancy up-dos, several female stylists do, and I've had that done on occassion as well. Also, I've never had to wait for my appointment - it's on time, and my stylist is prepared and ready. I LOVE THAT!!! The place is fairly small, in an old strip mall in mid-town, but it's a true Mom and Pop, with a good, loyal core team working there. It's friendly, campy, casual (you can have your soda, read, eat). It's totally unpretentious, but they do an amazing job at the best prices I've ever found. They've been around a long time, and to me, you just can't go wrong. And, it's locally owned and operated, so you're actually supporting your neighbors. :) My stylist doesn't take credit cards, but does take checks. I don't know about the others. I've been going to Danielle Fox for about 17 years. I'm moving to Cincinnati soon, and I'm going to have to fly her in to do my highlights. I've had highlights done by a couple of other people, and they don't hold a candle, or a foil, to the ones I get at Hair Technics. I told Danielle (when those weird hair-stripes were in style) that I wanted my hair to look like it was naturally sun-kissed from the beach, and she delivers. She's been doing my hair for I don't know how many years, and though the cuts can be hit-or-miss, the highlights always look fantastic. She's also fun to talk to (dissing the celebrities in People Magazine is one of our favorite pastimes) and very smart--always an interesting conversationalist, as well as extremely knowledgeable about hair on the human head. My brother recommended her to me, and she quickly became a good friend, even though I should hate her because she looks exactly the same as she did in the '90s. The salon is small and the atmosphere laid-back; it's a pleasure to spend time there. The stylists talk to you (but not too much) and to each other--you can tell they enjoy working together. They're on the ball with their appointments; you never have to wait more than a few minutes, if at all. And the prices are more reasonable than at any salon I've been to. I went to see Robert because I had heard good things about him, but I will NEVER EVER go back to see him. I showed him a photo of what I wanted, a lob (long bob type) what I got instead was no where close to that! He gave me jagged, choppy super short layers that were not blended at all. I showed him how I wanted my bangs to look and what I got instead was a blunt blob of overly short, not blended side bangs. I had to pay another stylist to fix my hair and make the layers look semi blended and my side bangs not look so blunt and choppy. I will never go back to this salon or to him.
