When I arrived, apparently they had not put my name down and still managed to squeeze me in. Can only comment on the female haircut option since that's what I got today - 5/5! Today was my first time at Hair Story, recommended to me by a friend from university who comes regularly for trims and haircuts as it's located so close to UofT and is so affordable. It's located on Yonge Street, just north of Wellesley Street and not that hard to spot. No private parking though. It's actually really spacious inside the salon and lots of natural lighting. A lot less nicer in terms of interior design than say, Seefu, but still very organized and clean. There is a cleaner constantly patrolling around the stations, sweeping. If you're looking for a mid-tier, no-frills Asian hair salon at 1/2 the price of swankier ones, like Seefu or N15, Hair Story is perfect for you! But seriously, my bill came to $35 for a female haircut + wash + styling (curls), which is the cheapest option I've seen so far downtown (vs. Kamiya, Seefu, N15, H2GOA, Hair District, etc.) not counting the ratchet Chinatown salons. I booked in advance and asked for Anna, who has been consistently recommended by fellow Yelpers. Anna is really cool; she speaks Korean and her English is not perfect (i.e. she might not catch some of your slang or jokes), but not at all a hindrance to her work. She hung up my jacket and scarf for me, and was very patient when I showed her all the photos I've collected of my desired haircut. She also works really fast - my entire appointment lasted 30 mins max! Most of the stylists here seem to be Korean, which is awesome. Based on what I saw today, they also do amazing male haircuts. They do take credit and debit cards, but tips are only accepted in cash. 100% would recommend and will be back again for future haircuts! read more

Everyone was really patient because i didnt know i really wanted (im really indecisive) and they gave me a quota for what i was aprox looking for. The price is much cheaper than most of the places i asked. They dont charge extra for toner / bleach like other places! I usually only read reviews on Yelp, but I felt the need to write a review myself for Hair Story. As we walked in, my friend and I were greeted by four different hair stylists - if I remember correctly it was a Caucasian man and three Korean ladies (the windows outside had Korean words so it was quite a surprise seeing a Caucasian man). So first off, we were treated extremely nicely and were offered to either wash our hair either before or after the cut. The man helped my friend and did a rather good job for what he wanted, and I was treated by Anna (or ahna). Anna did an EXCEPTIONAL job with my hair - she put a ton of effort into my hair and was quick and efficient. After cutting my hair to the exact style as I showed her in a picture I brought (side fades with pullover from front to back), she used the straightener to create a slight curled undercut look; as she recommended that I perm my hair to get the perfect style. I never realized myself that the look she recommended would be such a perfect fit for me. This is even after going to several high end salons and barber shops downtown (Kamiya Hairdressing, Onyx Barbers). If you are visiting, try to ask for Anna as I can guarantee you she knows what she's doing and she's also very polite (although all the others are as well). All in all, Hair Story will be getting a regular visitor for sure and I will be perming my hair the next time around. Ladies, please go elsewhere for straightening. My experience at Hair Story was a disappointing one. I wouldn't go back or recommend to my family and friends. My disappointment came from their inattentive service and dishonesty with pricing. I was greeted at the door but after that, I was pretty much left by the couch till my hairstylist came by. Later as the salon got busy, she went back and forth from me to another lady who was getting her hair done (I personally think this is unprofessional and didn't appreciate it.) Second, $250 for straightening a shoulder-length hair and it was originally $200 but what a jump. I'd understand if we didn't talk about the pricing beforehand but we did and especially when the hairstylist cuts a drastic length of hair and had little to work with. Thumbs down. read more

This place used to be good when they were still located near Wellesley station but now it's horrible. I just went for a trim and asked the lady to cut off 2 inches and give me some long layers but she cut off about 4 inches and gave me choppy layers so bad and thinned my hair out almost half of what it was in thickness, it looks horrible. I already have fine hair and there's absolutely no need to thin it out more but not only did she cut of chunks of hair she also used the thinning sheers to thin my hair out even more. When I asked why she thinned out my hair so much she kept trying to gaslight me saying how I should've said I wanted little layers at the end instead of long layers. I've gone to hair story before and gave the exact same instructions to the other hairdressers and never had this end result. I'm never going back to them again, the $40 haircut is not worth looking like a rat ate chunks of your hair off. Been going here for the last 5 years for the basic hair cut but also for a straight perm and at least a bleach/dye job every year. I have super long and thick hair and the whole process takes butt-numbing hours but Michelle, her daughter Youmi (sp?) and their staff has always been patient and awesome. Near the end of the 4+ hours they still take the extra time to fully style my hair. Super fair prices and my hair always gets noticed the minute I walk out. (She has bright blue hair) looks me up and down. Then the host comes over and goes. Actually sorry she said she can't help you anymore. I have not gotten my hair cut at a salon in several years after being disappointed with the results. I decided to try out this salon after reading the reviews on Yelp and followed the advice of asking for Anna. I went there and had some pictures ready in my phone with what I wanted. Anna is really friendly, listens very well and also asks you before doing anything to your hair if that's okay for her to do it (thinning my hair here) which is amazing since a lot of hairdressers just do it without asking your opinion! I had a wash, cut and style done for $33.90 (with tip $40). Anna did a really great job and I came out with a nice haircut, exactly as I desired and my hair super soft! She also takes her time to style it and she makes sure that the cut is perfect. The place is nice, the music not too loud and Anna does not make too much small talk but still asks you questions (I personally don't need to talk much when I get my haircut). She is really focused on what she is doing and you should definitely go with her if you book an appointment, she is worth it! I only wish that the wash/rub would be a bit longer as I enjoy being pampered but for the price, I can't complain. I will be back for sure. read more

First and will be my last experience there. Terrible attitude. My hair was cut unevenly and when I told her to not cut it too short, the hairdresser whined about it. She didn't even bother to comb my hair when she was done with the cut, i put on my glasses and my hair was a mess. I had to comb it myself to see the final result. Absurd! Not worth the price, not worth the ill treatment. I also realized that she did not even touch my hair throughout the cut. Best kept secret in Toronto! Michelle, the owner is amazing! My hair was looking so brassy- terrible. I asked for lowlights and highlights and just asked her to use her judgement in choosing the colours. She did an outstanding job! Exactly what I was looking for. A young Korean lady( I think) cut my hair, super fast and I was quite happy about the outcome. Price is 40 dollars, I gave 5 dollar tip extra to the lady but they seemed surprised for the tip. This is my third time and I feel i really need to warn everyone a bout this Iranian lady hairdresser over there. She did the worst job and my hair is not equal from both sides. When i complained she decided to curl my hair with a curling iron rod so i don't figure it out. When i walked in 2 hairdressers told me the charges are between 30-35 however the Iranian woman decided to increase it by 100% charged me $60. I was like NOOO WAYYY! Jan 27th, 2016 I called Hair Story on Yonge and Wellesley around 6:40 to make an appointment for men's haircut. Although I was hesitant to go since I heard awful stories about their service, I thought I would give it a chance. I made an appointment to make sure that I didn't have to aimlessly wait when I got there and I was told by a person on the phone that after 7PM it will be a walk-in. I told the person that I'd be dropping in around 7:15 for a haircut and she confirmed. When I arrived at the location at 7:20, the store was closed. Open-to-close sign sticker on the glass door even says CLOSE @ 8PM. Obviously this business is very unprofessional and disrespectful to the customers. Ridiculous. Beautiful salon located on the stretch of Yonge Street between Wellesley and Isabella Streets, i came to this location after my favorite stylist at House of Lords, Brendan, started working here. Unlike House of Lords, this salon is not only attractive, but the prices and quality of cuts are good, and service is great. Please be aware that there is another salon with the same name located a few blocks down. Both are owned by the same owner, however I frequent this location due to Brandon's outstanding personality and service. I am a loyal customer of Brandon since January 2011, and will go anywhere he goes. He's an excellent stylist who draws a loyal legion of clients as he is able to relate to everyone.
