I decided to visit Hair Pro Charming with the hope of finding my preferred hair stylist, but unfortunately, she was not available. I have visited this salon multiple times over the years. It's been a year since my last visit. When I asked for the menu, they initially claimed they didn't have one, but later I noticed it was actually available. Surprisingly, they also lacked brochures to provide to customers. The salon only had one hair stylist and one person responsible for shampooing. I was quoted $40 to $45 for a haircut, wash, and blow dry ranged from $40 to $45. A wash and blow dry was $35 for me. I couldn't help but feel that the customer service could have been better, especially considering that the staff member responsible for shampooing was not busy and could have been more helpful. It would be beneficial for the salon to have a detailed brochure, even if it's not intended for distribution to customers. Hair steam machines are so great on my scalp and hair so I have been seeking it. Unfortunately, this salon does not offered it. I will return when my prefer stylist is available. read more

DONT GO HERE! went here to get a perm and they ruined my hair. they spent the least time and least products with me and still managed to mess up my hair. they burned my hair and none of the perm stayed. she said the perm should stay for 6 months! i haven't even washed my hair in these pictures and the perm's already barely showing up. unprofessional- additionally, the ladies who were doing my hair were eating while taking care of me. doesn't wanna refund me and i spent almost $400 in this place. don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Came here as a first time customer after reading the board placed outside this salon that says."Gel manicure-$20" After getting my nails done i was told it is $28!!! I told her outside it says $20. She was like oh its not $20 its $23 and $5 extra to remove the previous gel polish.And unwantingly i had to pay $5 tip which made it a $33.Thats not even a Manhattan nail salon price.Even they are cheaper than this. WHY DO YOU HAVE A BOARD THATS MISLEADING PEOPLE SAYING ITS $20??????????!!!! Once you get trapped and come inside,they start charging their nonsense hidden extra fees. This is the first time i did Keratin Hair Straight and i am so happy with the results. I wanted a Japanese Hair Straight but Lucia was honest to tell me that my hair might get damage because of too much chemicals (my hair is long with color) so she suggested Keratin Hair Straight instead. I always do hair straight/rebonding in the past few years & i just hope that this Keratin Straight will last for long (at least 6-8mos) like my previous rebonding treatments. Price is good but the reason i give 4 stars is because haircut is not included, but in my previous experiences, haircut is usually included. Keratin is $160 plus $10 haircut, 15% service charge & another $5 for the lady who shampoo'd my hair & blowdry. All in all total is $200, still not bad. read more

Wouldn't go during the weekend as it is too busy and they are not professional in time management. No point in making a reservation as many people need to wait at least an hour sitting on the chair with the gown on. Price is not cheap compare to flushing, styles they do it outdated. I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for trendy/stylish hair style. They are still old-fashioned. Salon itself if pretty clean and decent size and staffs are nice but if you like to get your service on time with timely manner, not a good place to go. It will take double amount of time because one person does million things and they book people too tight. read more

I've come to the salon three times. The first two times were good, no complaints. The Japanese straightening with the Brazilian keratin treatment (I get the combination) did not last as long as with other hair salons I've tried in the past, but since this is one of the cheaper salons in the area, the shorter effect was worth it. The last time it did not work at all. They either had bad product or didn't do a good job. After washing my hair 72 hours after the treatment, it was much worse than when I came in - frizzy, dry and damaged. I called the salon and they asked me to come in. The stylist agreed that the product did not work at all, but was afraid to do another Japanese straightening and said she'd only do the Brazilian keratin. I agreed knowing that it was only going to last a couple of months at best. I didn't want to damage my hair any further, even though I paid for the combination treatment. Another 72 hours later, my hair is even worse. Very damaged, brittle, and worst of all - wavy and frizzy. I call the salon to advise and I'm asked to come in again. At this point, the hair is so damaged that I'm afraid to have any more product put in it. The salon refused to provide a refund even though the service that was purchased was not delivered as promised. To top it off, I had to cut off inches from my hair just to be able to leave the house and over six months later, it's still super dry and damaged. I'd stay clear of them. This is a hit and miss. And when it misses, it damages your hair and your bank account. read more

I went in to get a quote on getting my roots touched up for japanese hair straightening. I had it done several times before except in Arizona. After the reviews I thought I would check them out. It was a year since I had my hair straightened. They said it would be $170 and they could fit me in right away. I thought that was great. They did a great job. The downside was it took 5 hours. Most of the time spent waiting since it's a popular service at this salon and not enough people trained to do it I guess. I thought maybe it was because I didn't have an appointment that it took longer than usual but after talking to a few other clients that seemed normal. It sucked to have to keep going out to put money in the meter and they don't have water or snacks for such a long process. They aren't chatty at all and some don't even speak English very well but that didn't bother me at all. I had my phone to keep me occupied. I'm very pleased with how my hair turned out though. Nice and straight and more volume than I've had when I did it in the past elsewhere. I will definitely go there again for a touch up. I didn't enjoy my hair being pulled while being blow dried either and also had my scalp burned a few times during the ironing process. One other thing I didn't like is I noticed they used the same brushes and combs on multiple clients without sterilizing. Again I'll say though I'm very pleased with the overall outcome of my hair and you can't beat the price. I'm sure all the things I found negative wouldn't happen somewhere that I pay 3 times the price but that's the payoff you take. The end result is what matters and my hair is slick and smooth and healthy looking. read more

Back in autumn 2011, I popped in on a late weeknight, and the owner happened to be closing... I asked for a quote for Japanese hair straightening perm (my first straightening treatment ever), and she gave me a super deal (~$150). I immediately scheduled an appointment for my super long (2'+) virgin hair. Lucy (an older woman) straightened my hair, and she was very gentle and precise. I loved the results. Fast forward two years later to 2013. I called to schedule another Japanese hair straightening treatment. I asked for Lucy, but she says she can't handle perms anymore! So, I got stuck with Heidi. This time, my hair wasn't as long as it was two years ago. Heidi was careless and sloppy. She did Brazilian keratin for another girl who sat next to me, and I saw that client get frustrated because Heidi wasn't particularly friendly. I was charged $200 and Heidi pushed to sell a bottle of keratin shampoo for another $50. Turns out the local Korean supermarket sells the same brand for a lot less. In 2011, I was the first customer to get my hair done so I did not notice the fumes so much.. But, in 2013 with more than one customer getting a perm, the fumes can be a bit too much because of the lack of ventilation. I'm going to find someplace else to get hair straightening since Heidi made the experience unpleasant. In the meantime, don't forget to print the $10 off coupon. read more

I usually go to Flushing to get my hair straightened but it was the day after a snow storm and I wanted to go somewhere close. My boyfriend recommended this place. It is on 64th St and Roosevelt (the map is inaccurate). The guy who worked on my hair is experienced. He didn't snag or burn my hair. He did great job with the cut too. Mixed feelings about this place. Staff was very nice and professional. I got the Japanese hair straightening and it burnt off quite a bit of hair at the crown of my head and the nape of my neck. I didn't really have the volume to spare, so I'm pretty unhappy about it. Plus now 4 days later I have a layer of stubble growing in under my hair. On the other hand, I willingly had my hair treated with noxious chemicals and heat so it's kind of on me. Had a Brazilian keratin done and the hairdresser was really rude to me because she felt that the owner under charged me for the length of my hair (I have very long hair). During the entire time she was putting the treatment in she kept saying things like "you know this costs more in other places", which made me feel uncomfortable. Well it turns out I had a very poor job done, within a week my hair was really frizzy and curly in some parts. I've been here before and had the same treatment done which typically lasts a few months. I am very disappointed and will not be returning! read more

I wandered in here after a terrible experience at hair village (worst service-in fact no service whatsoever), and I have to say I'm so glad I ended up here. The place is bigger, cleaner, much less crowded, just as reasonable, and I thought they did a fabulous job. I ended up getting a cut, color, and cellophane for a great deal. And they actually had pretty great SERVICE! I decided to give this place a try based on the scant reviews here and the info on their website. But I was nervous! I've never done japanese hair straightening, and wanted to find a reasonably priced option. Everyone at Hair Pro Charming was great - and most importantly, my hair is amazing! I went in on Monday and nervously waited until I could wash it yesterday. My hair is naturally very thick and frizzy/curly. I was worried that it wouldn't take completely and I'd end up with hair that had no curl but was still frizzy. I was delighted when I blow dried it yesterday and after only about 5 minutes of easy drying my hair was just as perfect and straight and smooth and shiny as it was when I left the salon. I paid $180 plus tips which is an amazing price given how much work it is. I was there for about 4 1/2 hours and went through quite a few steps. It was clear that the staff was being very careful with every step - treating hair in very small sections and being very thorough to adhere solutions to every inch of every strand, and flat iron perfectly - again in very small sections (which took ages for me because I've got a LOT of hair on my head). The guy who mainly worked on me was Kim (that's his last name). A woman did my shampooing and other steps. Neither was particularly chatty, but they were both perfectly lovely and amicable. It would have been nice to have been offered some water in all that time. Next time I'll bring some. But this is a no-frills place. I highly recommend if you are looking for excellent quality japanese straightening at an affordable price. I will definitely go back for my next touch up. read more

Came here at 6 to get a pedicure. Note that I was the ONLY customer in the store and I was brought to the back to sit in the pedicure chairs. Then as I sat, she asked me if I wanna do regular pedicure or spa pedicure because the spa pedicure is more comfortable. I said spa pedicure will do. The lady said good choice and before she even started the pedicure, she went to the back for 15 mins. Came back out with a plate of food to eat and didn't get to my pedicure until 6:20. So when she came back for me, she did the usual pedicure procedure. Then she started to paint my nails. I then asked her is this is all the spa pedicure? She said "no spa pedicure. We close at 7. Can't do it, we have no time".... why would you even offer to do spa pedicure then? Why did you go inside to make yourself a pancake as I was sitting there staring at the ceiling? read more

They took me in even without an appointment and were very accommodating. I only had to wait about 15 minutes. However, the place does get busy on wknds, so I suggest (if possible) to go on a weekday. I came here last year to get a magic perm and my hair is still silky shiny dead straight (I believe I had Heidi, who was great!). This time, I went in to get my hair colored. I had Jackie as my person and she was fantastic: she was very thorough explaining the process and even recommending options (that's cheaper than what I had requested) that she thought I would benefit more. She even styled my hair in curls for free at the end. Full color + layer cut + bang trim + hair styling = $100. This salon is not your upscale luxe but def. best value! I recommend! read more

I had an appointment for a JHS consultation. When I walked in, no one knew about my appointment or that I was coming. Everyone was busy. I asked for consultation. And they thought I was trying to sell them something. I'm really disappointed. They have a beautiful and professional website but their business does not reflect that. Sadly I walked away without my questions being answered and I don't feel comfortable having this service done by people who can't coomunicate with you. Went here twice. Jackie, the asian girl who helped me both times, spoke english well so I could understand at least, and was very nice and concerned about me. When I called before my second visit she picked up and remembered me, and when I walked in she helped me right away. Very rare to see service like this in Queens. First time my hair weave was a knotted unmanageable mess that I couldn't brush. Looked like a blonde afro (I am a caucasian girl). Jackie washed and brushed and straightened it to smooth thin silky perfection. Second time it was to cut the extensions out, as the hair was not meant for caucasians and I couldn't keep it in as she told me it was ripping my hair. I was very sad but she was nice and concerned and put a treatment in after. Yes, it is not a luxury salon with all of the little extras and pampering. So not 5 stars. But 4 definitely. RUDE AND GREEDY HAIR STYLIST! My cousin referred me to hair pro charming for a keratin hair treatment. She had it done a few months ago and had good results so I has excited to have keratin treatment done on my hair as well. I don't know if the treatment will last as its only been one day but what turned me off to this place completely was the rude hair stylist! My treatment was $160 and I gave him $200, and asked for $10 back. I was giving him $30 ( 20% of the treatment) and he had the nerve to hand me the $10 back while pointing with his other hand at a taped letter next to the register that says "15% gratuity is expected"! I was so shocked that he would do this to a customer that has already tipped MORE than what he was asking for. I was caught off guard and gave the $10 back to which he said Thank you. Maybe he should learn math and some manners! I tipped despite having the lady (two people work on your hair) burning my scalp twice, constantly getting my hair caught and subsequently breaking my hair with the flat iron, AND speaking in their language while working on me. The worse place EVER!! I will never go back... I am a black girl; however, my hair is easily straightened. Prior to entering, I asked if they are able to do my hair (of course they said yes). I went there for the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. After washing my hair, the hairdresser says, "the Brazilian Treatment may not make my hair very straight". While sitting under the drier, instead of removing my head from under the drier, she uses a brush and began brushing my wet hair; it tugged at my hair very hard. I asked her... What are you doing? She said, "your hair can't be wet, I'm trying to see if it's dry". I said, "I'll do it" and used my hands to separate my hair. After my hair was dried, I sat for two hours, and no one communicated with me. I watched as people who arrived after me, and leave before me. At 8p, I asked the hairdresser who was helping me, if anyone is going to attend to me. She said, "yes" and pointed to an Asian lady; then she got ready and left the salon. I was the last person to get my hair done. Prior the Asian hairdresser doing my hair, she also said that my hair may not end up straight from the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. She finished my hair by 9p. My hair is short and uneven (the shortest part is above my shoulders, and the longest part lay on my shoulders) and I heard an Asian lady with hair by her butt, say to her friend that her hair cost $150 to get done. I went to pay my bill, and the Asian hairdresser wanted to charge me $170. I fought to get the price down to $150, then she threaten for me to pay her a tip (I almost gave her a tip; but her attitude was unpleasant, and the service was very upsetting)...
