DO NOT GO HERE! I need to share my experience with this salon and the manager today to warn others how I was scammed today. My entire family has gone to Hair IB for keratin treatment over the past 10 years. This was because we liked the previous owner and service we received when the location was on 16330 northern blvd. However, about 5 years ago they moved to new management - Esther. She is a very unprofessional business owner. She always has a very condescending attitude. Every time I leave my appointment, I would always say "this is the last time I go here" but continued to go because I simply didn't want to bother finding a new salon. However, today was the final straw for me and my entire family. I was quoted $300-325 for a root touchup over text message by her prior to my appointment because she said they have on record that I have thick hair so my price would be more than the average customer (a $75 increase from my last appointment). I said okay as I understand that prices go up year over year. When I arrived today, she informed me that actually my price would be $400. This was a 60% increase from my last appointment, not to mention, I requested only 1in of my hair be treated instead of the full root touchups. 1in of hair is $400. This bait and switch on pricing is completely unethical and poor business management, especially after being a loyal customer for so long. Once she had me on the salon, she knew she could charge me whatever she wanted. When she initially quoted me $300 - $325, she knew exactly who I was and what type of her I have, as I have been there many times in the past and she even has her notes about me on file - there were no unknowns about the service. I took PTO from my job for this appointment and sat in 3 hours of traffic thinking my price would be $300-$325 as quoted. Not to mention, the keratin treatment does not last more than a month because she rushes through the process and straightens hair in huge pieces, missing a lot of hair in the process, just so she can take as many customers as possible. Others should be warned of the unprofessionalism of Esther and should take their services elsewhere. It is simply not worth the aggravation and stress! read more

Very large and spacious, decor is modern but approachable (meaning, you're not completely freaking out you might knock something over) and lots of seating. I followed my stylist Melissa here and the prices are reasonable and they have an eclectic customer base. I personally recommend Melissa -- she's always been honest, professional and she really takes pride in her work and never cuts corners. She also never over books so she'll ask you what you're getting done so she can plan accordingly. Also she's almost always on time or finishes earlier. She doesn't necessarily rush but because she's not working on 2-3 other clients, all her focus is on you and so sh3 almost does everything on her own (even sometimes does washes!). I love her because she's dedicated and she's always educating her skills so I would definitely recommend her. Also, reception is fluent in English so they'll explain everything to you over the phone prior to your appointment if you have any questions (I overheard them while I was getting my hair done). Also there'd parking in the below garage but super small so street park if you can. read more

I have been coming here since I was in college (over 10 years ago). I come here 2x a year for the Brazilian Keratin Treatment (type D) and a haircut. The staff is always very friendly and my hair always comes out amazing! I even moved to CT recently and still make the drive down to get my hair done here! The price is reasonable and my hair stays amazing for months! Making an appointment is also very easy and they have good availability. read more

Never go to this hairdresser. The basic service is so messed up even if they mess up with my hair. Even the person who washes my hair is too rough and doesn't care whether water gets in their eyes or not. Before washing my hair, I said that I couldn't sit on the chair because the chair was wet like a puddle of water was on, but the person washing my hair ignored me and told me to sit down. The designer who cut the hair didn't even cut it, but a new customer came, so it wasn't over, but the designer tried to finish it off and take off the gown. The counter person who asked, "How much would you like to tip for the last checkout?" He also asked in a tone that didn't want to work. Devastated and shocked! It took me apporixmately a month to write this review because I was in denial and ashamred that I somehow allowed this to happen to me. My first visit to this salon was September 2016. I chose this specific salon for the Japanese straight after researching and reading reviews from other Black women who has positive experiences. My first visit was great. The stylist was friendly and explained what she was doing. My hair was in a good shape afterwards and had no regrets of relaxing my hair after 5 years of being natural. Prior to being natural I did the Japanese relaxer in both the U.S. and Japan for almost 3 years again with a lot of success in growing out my hair. Last month was my 5-6 month touch up appointment. I timed it well so I could have it done just a few weeks before my birthday. Ugh! My birthday fantasy bubble was popped! I made my appointment and made sure to inform them I am black and have curly hair. When I arrived they said my last stylist no longer worked there and was given another person. I didn't think anything of it. I did my hair on a Monday. Followed the instructions to wash after 72 hours. Again everything was ok but by the following Monday just one week after doing my hair, I went to run my fingers through my hair and globs and chunks came out with my hand. I was stunned! Soooo confused! Instead of continuing to stare at my hair and cry I called the salon to inquire about it. I asked about coming back to the salon despite the inconvenience of it being very far from my work and home. The person I spoke with tried to be helpful but wasn't. They wanted me to see the SAME STYLIST and have her "fix" my hair. I told them no way I wanted someone else maybe even the owner. I was told that the owner was not available. I explained to them them I cannot take a day off from work to come down there and gave them times I could come but it was never resolved. I've since then continue to lose chunks of my hair. I deep condition. I use protein. I tie it up in one and away. Not what you do when you just get your hair did. No matter what I do, it tangles in huge clumps, it falls out, and it's just a mess. A terrible terrible mess. I will not be returning here. I am writing this review HOPING that either another unsuspecting curly head doesn't end up like me. If you decide to go I would say speak up and be heard throughout the process. If your stylist does not speak fluently then ask for someone who does. I wish I was more diligent and more OCD with this new stylist. She did NOT know what she was doing and I learned the hard way. Do not let this be you :( read more

There's a lot of people who think I have this hair because I'm Asian. Let it be revealed to the yelp world that, no, this straight hair don't come from my motherland or my mother (or her genes anyway). It comes from the hands of my stylist at Hair Club IB. I used to hop around from one Korean salon to another, letting my hair get manhandled by whomever would have the time and space to care for it. Yes, I was a salon slut. I quickly found that the quality of the treatment varied largely from place to place and i just couldn't find a home for my hair. Then three years ago, I discovered Hair Club IB through their website, which has since been redone to include tons of information about their top three services: the japanese hair straightening, the brazilian keratin treatment, and the digital perm. My favorite part about the website is the forum, where they allow you to request appointments, and someone from the salon will reply with a confirmation within 24 hours. I've tried most of the treatments at least once, except the brazilian treatment, which is relatively new and I haven't tried it yet because of its purported permanence (or lack thereof - it lasts about four to eight weeks, which is a little too short for me given the price I'd be paying for it), but it seems like there were quite a few people coming in that were looking to get it done. IB is my mainstay for the hair straightening, which has always been done painstakingly well each time I've visited. I haven't stepped foot into another salon for my JHS treatment since I found it, and now that my favorite stylist from another salon has now been hired there, I have no reason to go anywhere else (because oddly enough, I get my hair straightened here but never cut). Be forewarned about a few things: 1) if you decide to take the plunge into your wallet and shell out the big bucks for any of these treatments, you'll probably want to guarantee that your tresses are receiving the proper about of attention. If that's the case, avoid going on the weekend and make your appointment for the earliest slot available (I've always tried to go in as close to opening time as possible). Sure, I might look like a grumpy, grumpy, bleary-eyed mess in the morning, but I'll walk out with happy hair because I'll miss the crowds that usually come in around noon. And crowds mean your hair attendant will be stretched thin across more chairs. 2) The JHS is a tasking process, so even if you're there during a lull hour, there'll usually be a few hands working on your hair. Sounds good, right? Unless you have the trainees working on you. They do a right enough job, but I had a few times when some of the younger girls either had the blow dryer on too high a heat or kept the hot straightener too close to my scalp for a second too long (to her credit, she apologized profusely and it didn't happen again). 3) There's a poodle. I don't know who it belongs to, or why it's there, nor does it affect your hair treatments in the slightest, but I just figured i should let you know. Side note: I know I haven't said much about the digital perm and there's a reason why - I don't really think much of it. I got it done once (see profile picture) and felt like it didn't work with my hair. Okay, no, I'll be honest. Gigi is amazing. Love how she cut & styling my hair. the style last for a long time without blowdrying, hair spray every day. Based on my age and career, i perfer my hair looks Ladylike. I had a digital perm by Gigi 6 months ago, it was the best perm i ever had. Long lasting and naturally curl. Came here a few weeks ago and received a Korean Keratin Treatment and hair cut for $230. Although not my typical treatment, I felt it was worth every penny. This treatment is generally a 3 hour process, but with two girls working on it, it was done in under 2 hours. What I loved the best about this place was the chill factor. They had iPads set up where you can watch Netflix and avoid awkward conversations you do not really want to have with hair stylists. For an antisocial person like me, I thought this was awesome. They also ask if you want coffee, tea or water while you are waiting which is a nice touch. Still to this day, I receive compliments on my hair which still looks great. I can not wait to go back again and get another treatment. Oh and by the way, when you say you want them to cut 2 inches, THEY CUT 2 INCHES. I cannot tell you how many times I have said cut off 2 inches, and walk out with 4 inches sawed off. Went there to do my Brazilian keratin and after 2 weeks my hair is still wavy as it was before treatment. After calling them and complain they told me to come back and they will redo it. When I showed up they told me that they cannot redo it, they only can do some touch ups. My hair looked ok after they blow dry it and flat ironed it, but when I washed it at home it's still curly. I'm very picky when it comes to hair salons because of so many bad experiences. I've gone to many korean salons and Hair IB is one of my favorite places to go to. I've gotten my hair bleached, colored and cut and they always turn out amazing! My favorite stylist is Paul and he's very meticulous for every process/cut. Did I tell you he does awesome haircuts? Stylist didn't listen to me at all. Didn't even know she was the stylist until she chopped off half of my hair without warning me first and without discussion about intended shapes and length of cut. She did not apologize and seemed frustrated when I asked her to fix what little hair was left, as if how dare I dislike the haircut she chose for me without my input. Used to go there yearly for hair straightening. They're ok at that but their stylists are terrible at cutting and as a result I will never be going back. My hair has never been shorter and I am horrified. When I complained, they gave me a bottle of conditioner to make amends for what little hair I have left. Thanks? They also assured me they will be "speaking to the stylist" but I doubt it. Nor does it matter, the damage was done in 5 seconds of absolute thoughtlessness. Also the cut is rough with huge flat chops in it. She tried to hide it by adding curls to the end when styling. Those are gone a day later when it is too late to fix how this stylist has ruined my hair. read more

Great experience at Hair Club IB. The salon is clean, the stylists are friendly, the price is right and the parking is quite handy. Most importantly, my hair came out great. Most of the employees are Japanese, and I've read some reviews online where people had communication problems but that was not an issue for me at all. Nor did I witness anyone in the salon having a problem. I originally went for Japanese straightening, however once they inspected my hair, they suggested I try a less damaging, and less permanent Brazilian Keratin straightening. I also had my hair colored. Two people were usually working on my hair at the same time, it was quite efficient. The venting system worked well for there wasn't a scant scent of chemicals in the salon. Parking was convenient, the entrance is right next to the salon. I was there on the weekend so there was no need for validation, during the week Hair Club validates the tickets so there is no cost. I did a lot of research about both of these processes before I went to the salon; i.e. what to expect during, the next couple of days and what I should and after care. I did not rely on the salon for instruction on how to care for my hair afterward and what to expect and I would suggest anyone getting either of these processes done (here or anywhere else) do their research first. read more

This was my first time at Hair Club IB--actually, this was my first time at an Asian salon. I'm black and hispanic with a mix breed of hair to match. I came in for the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. At the door I was greeted and the hostess was incredibly friendly. She stated that because I had damaged hair (in slightly broken but clear English) that I should choose D of the four choices of treatment. I chose that one, even though it was pretty pricey. I had an appointment for 1PM and found that I was seen to very quickly. The washer was friendly as were my two stylists. Both were friendly and helpful. The entire thing took about four hours even though my hair is very curly. One of my concerns was that they would not know what to do with my hair (I'm used to Dominican stylists) but they did a great job. Everyone was stylish. My only complaint was that they seemed to be very loud with their evaluation of my hair and I couldn't help but notice that the two people near me kept staring and smirking. It was a bit embarrassing. Otherwise it was friendly and I'll be returning in four months. read more

I came in a year ago - October 2018 for a root touch up on my japanese hair straightening I normally go to a salon in Manhattan - however I was lured in by the price found in Queens at this salon (1/3 to 1/4th the cost). The technicians examined my hair and told me that I would have to return to get it done later in the year. I was extremely confused - my hair was fine - and all I needed was a touch up on my roots. They eventually complied - oh how I wish I'd walked out of the salon before the next sequence of events. Normally - when you get a touch up - neutralizer is applied everywhere except for the roots to protect it from being double processed. I began to realize that what they were applying to my hair wasn't neutralizer . It was the solution - as in they didn't do a root touch up on me. They gave me an entirely unnecessary no going back damaging - SECOND japanese hair straightening treatment. Now I understood their initial trepidation I figured eh - they must know what they're doing - and my hair is stronger than most. Oh how wrong was I. One week later: my hair loss all its life / shine / volume. 2 weeks later: split ends galore. I trimmed the ends of my hair 3 weeks later: new split ends formed rapidly - and something was very very wrong. No matter how high up I cut my hair - it was still split ends, breakage, wirey, thin. I was forced to eventually cut off all my hair. Prior to my encounter with this salon my hair was a little bit past my shoulders. Now I have the hair of Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta. I don't work in this industry but from asking around it's common sense not to double process hair when its with chemicals as strong as those found in the japanese hair straightening treatment. I saw a few bad reviews on this yelp - and thought that the issues would've been rectified by the time I came in. Ladies please do not make the same mistake that I did. It's worth paying a bit more to go to a reputable salon that knows what they're doing rather than waiting years for your hair to grow back like me. read more

I felt that they overcharged me to color 3in (tips) of my daughter's hair. But I couldn't leave because I promised her. Afterwards, I felt I left a good tip and the lady told me I had to give her more. They demanded 20% of the cost of her hair price. That didn't include the tip for the hair washer woman. I go to hair club ib for my haircut every year. The person in charge cuts my hair and the result is always amazing. He is truly highly skilled and intelligent in the art of styling/cutting hair. I havent been disatisfied not even once everytime I get my haircut from him. The staff is also friendly and professional. Im always surprised how excellent the outcome of my hair is. I stopped going here after they burned my hair (my roots)3 yrs ago. I complained and they told me to come back to fix it. They applied keratin treatment but my hair was so damaged that it barely worked. Ever since then I've been going to different hair salons and been getting keratin treatment to keep my hair from falling apart. So far i got keratin treatment 4 times and it has gotten a bit better. Now im just waiting and growing out my hair to cut that area off. So far The burned area is now came down to a little above my chin. I have few more years left to finally get rid of the burnt hair. NO NO NO NO! Had an appointment for 1pm. Arrived at 12:50. I need a touchup to my Japanese straightened hair in a month or so, and we just moved to NYC so I didn't have a usual salon to go to. Before I have ANYONE touch my hair with chemicals I always check out the place first by getting a cut there first to check their cleanliness and level of professionalism. Issue #1: They didn't remember what I had come for (cut or straightening or ?). If they can't remember what the appointment was for, how will they remember the last time you came in, or the last time you had a chemical treatment done, or what step you're on or for how long during the procedure??? Issue #2: I was led to the hair washing area. They yelled for a girl to come out. She waddled out of a back area holding a piece of cake in her hand. She ate the cake and walked towards me, not really seeming friendly, and definitely giving the impression that finishing the piece of cake took priority. She said "hello" between gulps. She washed my hair - very very rough, and used so much shampoo I could feel the bubbles in my ears. It was just a very uncomfortable experience. Issue #3: I was then told to sit at a table in the middle part of the room. There were a few tables, and at that moment some food had been brought in to another table in the middle of the room and all the stylists sat down around it chatting and eating. I sat there for a few minutes wondering, who is going to cut my hair if everyone's eating? The receptionist came up and said "Um... can you wait a bit because we're having lunch" WTH?!?! I replied that "I made an appointment." to which she said "Well your appointment was for 1pm, and you were early". The current time was 12:57. Okay, 3 minutes early... but they had just sat down to eat at that moment! They were not going to finish in 3 minutes. Furthermore, should they be sitting in the middle of the salon eating food?!?!? There was another person waiting to be checked in, but I guess she would have to wait too. They should not be eating in front of customers, that is beyond rude. I got up and walked out, hair still wet dripping down my back. I would not trust these people to cut my hair, let along apply a delicate chemical treatment to it. (I've had Japanese straightening done quite a few times and it is a very exact process and you CAN get your hair fried if done by the wrong person). This salon was beyond unprofessional! I've never had this bad of an experience at a salon EVER. I REFUSE to let them put any chemical on my hair or even touch my hair. read more

Short version: I no longer recommend going to Hair Club IB for keratin treatment. They have changed something about their treatment and it no longer works. Long version: I've already reviewed Hair Club IB based on my past experiences, but felt compelled to add an update. I've been getting my hair straightened there for more than 3 years now, using their Salon Tech formula (I believe it's Type C). In the past, I've been very pleased with my results--my hair is straight and silky, and it lasts for several months. This time was different. First, they charged me $200, as opposed to the $170 which is what they've charged me in the past. They told me it's because of the length of my hair, but my hair is roughly the same length as before. Then, they tried to get me to use the more expensive straightening formula, saying that my hair won't take the other one. Since I've used the Salon Tech formula for a few years now, I didn't feel the need to do so. I'm not sure what went wrong this time, but my hair feels dry and is barely straight. I'm so disappointed because I used the exact same straightening system in the past with better results. My friend went with me and she has had the exact same experience. We've both loved our results with Salon Tech keratin treatment in the past. I don't know if they just messed both of our hair up, if they intentionally diluted the formula to force us into using the more expensive brand next time., or if my hair somehow no longer takes the treatment. I have been here many times over the last 10 years. I am 34..caucasian and have wavy hair. Not frizzy at all. I am just not a morning person so having the keratin in my hair really cuts down my "getting ready" time in the am. So I was just here a couple weeks ago. I went for the Brazilian - it has been a couple years since I was last here. My hair did turn out nice - however I knocked 2 stars off for the below reasons, pertaining to the same person - their "shampoo" lady. She hurt my head badly and burned my scalp. Now I do remember her from years ago so she has been there a while. She's a short, hispanic lady. But back then she was nice and didn't hurt my head and only washed your hair and swept floors. Apparently they have given her more responsibilities and they really shouldn't have. She is the one who applied the chemical to my hair this time. My scalp was literally burning after 20 minutes. Never have I had that happen before. It kept dripping on my face so I was constantly wiping it. When it was time to wash it out, she hurt my head so bad that the back of my head was swollen for a week where she kept pushing it against the sink. She is VERY rough and nothing about the washing experience is relaxing at all. She just can't wait to be rid of you. I did see another reviewer note this as well. I was still icing the back of my head 5 days after the treatment. When you are finished..she just pushes your shoulder, not a friendly tap, trust me. Who does that? Unfortunately I had to deal with her a lot and she really made the whole experience very unpleasant. She looks drained and runs around from client to client like a mad woman. The worst part was the skin flaking off my scalp from the chemical and the burn rash I had on the back of my neck for over a week. I never ever had that happen before and I have never had dandruff either. So that was gross and painful. 3 stars because my hair does look nice and the girls who actually straightened my hair were just fine..no complaints. I have been coming to Hair IB close to 4 years. I don't live in Queens - I travel from SI as in my opinion it was worth the trip. Today, I had my appointment and had a weird feeling that something was wrong when the stylist had just finished putting the product on my head and within minutes I was at the sink getting it washed out. They put some type of conditioning treatment in my hair twice- both times I had to sit with the product on for 20 mins. When I asked if something happened no one responded. The new stylist continued to work on my hair and of course when she finished I loved it. Well it wasn't until I arrived home and the salon had closed for the day that I noticed a chunk of my hair a 1/2" from my scalp was broken off - this was extremely upsetting. The stylist did not say a word about it to me. At this point, I am aware there is nothing the salon could do to replace the chunk of my hair, but some common decency and accountability of what happened would have been appreciated. They had no problem taking my money and nice tip I left them. As I sit here and recap the day, everything now makes sense as to why they did the conditioning treatments on my head and now I realize why the stylist got changed. I got Brazilian keratin treatment here on Friday and I could not be happier. It is a great price and the staff is really friendly. They explained what they would be doing every step of the way and answered all of my questions. When I asked if they had a phone charger, they gave me this whole kiosk thing with an iPad (with games, HBO and Netflix!) and phone charger attached. I felt like a little kid getting my first haircut in one of those kid friendly places and it was awesome. As for my actual hair, I have long thick hair and the keratin (at least so far) did WONDERS. I literally don't even need to put conditioner in my hair anymore. I used to wash my hair and not be able to leave the house after because it would get so frizzy and puffy. Last night I washed my hair and immediately went our and it dried silky and straight. It's like a dream come true. They only reason I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is sort of far away (although the train goes right to where the salon is.. maybe a 3 minute walk max) and there are no frills (besides the iPad). It isn't a super fancy salon or anything but they did an amazing job! I will definitely be back! read more

I came in without an appointment for a haircut and blow dry. Thankfully it was a rainy day so the place was pretty empty. The shampoo girl, gave a really good, thorough wash and then I was sent over to Paul and his assistant. I saw they struggled a little with detangling my hair so I took the brush and did it myself (I had a train to catch). Paul gave a great haircut, explaining that my previous cut was very uneven. Between the two of them, they made easy work of blow drying and straightening my hair. It came out silk smooth. When I was done, at this point it was pouring outside. I mentioned I wanted to wrap my hair so that I could cover it from the rain. They had no clue what I was talking about, or they had no experience wrapping, so I awkwardly did it myself in the chair in front of the mirror while they waited in the background. I'm super please because the straight hair lasted a full week with no touchups needed! Even with the rain and humidity in the air, my hair stayed silky straight. I paid $60 + tips so it was a bit more than i was comfortable spending for a cut and blowdry, but I guess you do pay for quality. Maybe a nice splurge every couple of months. read more

Wish I can give this place a zero star. Go take your money elsewhere! There are so many other salons you can go. Just NOT HERE!!! Went to ib hair to get my roots retouched and I came out 4hours later (i had made an appointment) my hair was burnt because nobody cares to pay attention to me. I made an appointment w the "owner" i believe her name was jenny but she just tossed me to another stylist. I believe he's the owners husband. He was soo busy with helping other keratin or "expensive" clients. Even when my hair was finished and the timer went off, he would make me wait extra 20-30min. My hair was soo damaged and fried and it was died so randomly. After washing my hair he tapped me to tell me he was done. Thankfully Jenny saw that and told me to come and finished drying my hair. (THEN overcharged for having the "owner" do my hair) I cant believe how they allow themselves to be overbooked. If you cant take care of your clients dont book them! Never returning again. read more

I'm a first time Japanese hair straightening customer. Found Hair Club I.B. on youtube. I called and made an appointment about 1 week in advance, very easy to get in on the Sunday I wanted. Drove 2.5 hours to Queens. Parked right in front of the salon (free parking on weekends :). I was about 10 minutes late but they didn't seem to notice or care. Very friendly, but straight forward and honest. They will thoroughly inspect your hair before deciding what type of procedure you can have!! If you have severely damaged hair forget it, you can't get JHS, you will have to get the Brazilian. They told the woman next to me if they put the JHS chemicals on her hair now it would disintegrate. Asked me a million questions such as when did I last shower? When did I last color my hair? What color? etc. She quoted me a price in the chair, no surprises. $30 extra for the conditioning treatment. I asked about having my hair colored at the same time but she kind of blew me off. I was confused because I wanted it done at the same time. Oh well. I also asked if I needed a hair cut/trim and she said no. My friends told me that my ends were uneven, so I did end up getting a hair cut immediately afterwards. Not sure if this was because they were rushing me out or if they sincerely didn't think I needed one?? The overall process for my very thick, medium length hair was 5 hours. I bought a $20 conditioner and a $20 hair serum. She was honest and told me I really didn't need the special shampoo, any shampoo will do. They have a sign recommending a 20% tip, which alleviated my anxiety about who to tip and how much since about 5 different girls worked on my head! The only additional instructions I received were "don't put your hair behind your ears and don't shower for 48 hours." Upon further internet research and my own experience, I'd raise that time to 72 or as long as you can wait! Don't put an elastic, barrette, or ANYTHING in your hair for 30 days if you want it to remain perfect. Do you know how impossible that is?! My hair already has dents galore in it. But it's tolerable. It drys straight and it's soft and flat. I give this place 4 stars because you can't beat the price or experience. WARNING: there is an additional charge to use a credit card!! Nowhere did I see this advertised. I think it was 8-10%. read more

I've been coming here for 7 or 8 years for JHS and keratin treatments. I have always had amazing results! Soo-Young is incredible! I had JHS last month and she did the best job I've ever seen. AND she was relatively fast! The prices are incredible. You can't get better quality or a more experienced salon for a better price anywhere in NY. For me, the drive from northern Westchester county is beyond worth it! read more

This is my go to spot for BKT. Hair Club IB pretty much just does hair straightening, so I think its safe to say they have the process figured out. They have a choice of formulas for different hair types and I've found that my BKT lasts longer here than anyplace else. Since my hair is long and wavy I get the strongest formula, it costs me about $200+tip. I've tried those $100 BKT groupons and they just don't last on my hair. Hair Club IB is totally out of the way for me yet worth the trip since I think it lasts longer than other places that I have tried, and it lasts way longer than anyplace I've tried in Manhattan. And a Brazilian Keratin Treatment is not a fun spa treatment that you want to have to do a lot. read more

I've been going here for a couple of years now and it's definitely my go to salon! It's a no frills place, so if you're expecting a full spa-like experience, you will be turned off. No one will ask you if you want tea or coffee or offer a massage, etc. But they will give you an amazing cut each time, and you will leave super happy with your hair. I usually just walk in here because I'm not very picky about who does my hair (everyone's been really great!). But you can make appointments if you need to. I've also gotten digital perms here with different stylists and results have always been consistently great. My hair is very thick and takes curls really well and my perm always comes out natural, wavy and very easy to manage. When I style it on my own it looks like I curl my hair every morning, which of course is bananas. I recently cut all my curls off and got a significant cut with Eunha and it's so great! She listened to what I wanted (long bangs) and suggested ways to make that work for my head shape and gave me really fun layers. She also styled my hair so pretty too. All for just $30. Come here for really affordable hair treatments and cuts. Don't expect 5 star service. If that's what you are looking for, you're better off paying much more somewhere else. read more
