Doris is the type of stylist everyone needs. Right away she was welcoming, upfront, honest, and got straight to the point. She looked at my hair and immediately began giving me knowledge of how to maintain my hair and use proper hair care, especially for relaxed hair. My hair had some breakage and damage when I came in to Doris and I left with a fresh clean slate. All dead ends are gone and Doris has given me the ability to push the "restart" button on my hair care routine. Also Doris gives you a lot of services for the relaxer treatments, she gives you a pre-relaxer prep that prepares the scalp, a deep conditioner, and she has many different types of relaxers. Because I had so much new growth she gave me a relaxer that is intended for sensitive scalps and of course a relaxer will always be a relaxer. This is why I appreciate how Doris does not let the relaxer sit in your hair. She gets it in,smooths it quickly, and rinses it right out! She gave me the cutest haircut that frames my face quite well and despite having to cut off my dead ends, I still retained a good amount of length. I am so happy Doris can guide me on my HEALTHY hair journey ( she prioritizes health over length and style. However, she's also a great stylist). This is the fresh clean slate my hair needed and I'm excited to put Doris' tips into utilization and see how my hair flourishes from here. I am so happy I found her, and you will be too! read more

The second picture is of my daughters who are both clients of Ms. Doris. We had an excellent experience with Doris and I plan to continue bringing my girls to her for their hair needs. My girls are biracial but have very different textures. My oldest hair is VERY thick and has a tighter curl whereas my youngest has fine hair with a looser curl. Ms. Doris was wonderful with both of their hair! She spent over an hour on each, just for a wash and a cut. Her work speaks for itself. She also pointed me to some products which I could buy locally and worked with me on how to use them properly. Doris was very professional and kind to my daughters. She made each of them feel special, while at the same time listening to what i wanted for their hair. If you have natural hair, or "difficult" textures, please call her. She gave us a free consultation before she did anything to ensure she could give us what we wanted. Prices are fair, and the work is worth it! read more

I've called several times and left messages to schedule a new client appointment. On the voicemail Doris clearly states she will try and return your call within one hour but after weeks with no call back I have decided to take my business elsewhere. In my opinion not following up on a call for a soon to be client shows unprofessionalism and a sign that you're obviously too busy to accept any new clients. Thank you but no thank you. read more

Today was my second trip to her salon and she is one of the best in hair care. She also gets you in and out of her salon in a timely manner (so there is no sitting around all day to be serviced). Healthy hair is her main focus and I'm truly pleased, as I have fine hair and am going natural. I'll continue going to Doris until she stops doing hair or I relocate. read more

I signed up with Yelp just so I could respond to the review on this salon. I called the salon on June 30 and left a message as instructed. In the message, Doris states she will call back within the hour and that is what she did. She scheduled me that Thursday (note this was a holiday week) for my free consultation. Doris spent about 20 minutes on the consultation, providing me with great information and help. She was not pushy about making an appointment; she was truly only offering her professional opinion, which is what I was seeking. I did stay - she worked me in to the schedule with a relaxer and trim and I was very pleased with the results. She also makes sure you have a style you can maintain at home. I made follow up appointments for every two weeks. Since that time I had to change my next appointment and after leaving a message, Doris called me back that same day to reschedule. This is a very small space - 2 hair dryers and a sink, so it is strictly by appointment. She asked what music I like and pulled up a playlist on Pandora. I thought that was a nice touch. I would ask Jessica to give Doris another chance. read more

I started going to Doris after my stylist moved out of the area. For several years I tried others and finally ended up here. Doris does all services but most importantly your appointment is YOUR appointment. She carefully schedules her clients so you feel your time is not wasted. I am an actress so I occasionally call at the last minute to get my hair fresh for a shoot. Sometimes she can accommodate me, sometimes not, but when I can't get in I know that other clients are getting the service and time that I would expect from her. read more

I don't know what happen with the other reviewer but she called me back within two hours of my massage. Doris is very concern about hair care. She schedules you for a 15 hair consultation were she looks at your hair and gives you suggestions on the the regiment for your specific hair texture to get it to it's healthiest state. I really like that she doesn't treat everyone hair the same. She has several different relaxer that would be suited specifically for your hair. I have sensitive scalp but my hair is very thick with a very tight curl. Other stylist would use the extremely strong relaxer that would straiten my hair but really burn my scalp. She had my hair looking beautiful and healthy after the first visit. She has a small space in a strip mall so she only takes one client at a time. If your looking for a stylist that will give you a trendy look she's not really the person for you but if your want a professional healthy looking hair she would be perfect fit. read more

I left Doris with confidence and assurance that my hair was on it's way to health.

I debated about writing this review. However, I do want to share my experience. I had been going to Doris for almost a year and I thought she was a wonderful person and hair stylist. My previous stylist lived in the city and I wanted to find someone who lived in my area. When I first contacted Doris, I explained that my hair is natural and right now, I would like to wear a sew-in. She accepted my business and I became her client. I explained that I want to wear the sew-in until I was ready to wear my natural hair. I thought that I was forming the client- stylist relationship with her until my birthday this year. I made an appointment with her approximately two weeks prior and explained I wanted the sew-in redone. Doris scheduled my appointment on my birthday. Two days before my birthday, I received a phone call from Doris and basically had to listen to her vent about how she doesn't like doing weaves and it takes time and etc., etc. Basically she had other clients coming in and doing my hair would mess her day up. I even tried to work around her schedule though I had to work. I was willing to miss a couple hours of work to get my hair done for my birthday. By the end of the conversation, she told me that I when her other clients came in I would have to wait and when she was done with them resume on me. I decided from that point I would never return. I should not hear you complain about doing my hair, and furthermore, why would you accept my business if you did not like doing what I wanted in the first place. I was upfront and honest and explained that when I was ready, that is when I would wear my natural hair, but until then, I wanted to wear a sew-in. That was the time to tell me that you don't like doing weaves and sorry you cannot accept my business. I have found someone in Naperville who enjoys doing hair period; weaves, relaxers, or natural hair. I do not want to discourage anyone from going to Doris, I would have continued going to her if it wasn't for that. However, when I went to her on my birthday, I told her in other words, she told me that she doesn't want to do my hair. What's funny is that when I first went to Doris, she talked about doing weaves for other clients and family. Anyway, I just felt that was unprofessional and there was a different way that she could have handled the situation. read more

Very nice lady. She claims to know how to do natural hair. She probably is good at working with processed hair or natural hair that is straightened daily. Don't let her fool you like she fooled me. I was under the impression that she knew how to do natural hair. As a natural, we know there are "rules". One rule is don't comb the hair dry. She did that! Another rule is don't comb from the roots down. She did that too! I had hair that was past my shoulders before I went to see her but when I left her shop, I had a boys hair cut! I had a picture of what I wanted and she still managed to give me the most horrible hair style I have ever seen! Then she offered to relax my hair! WHAT?! Who does that? I'm natural so I don't have to deal with the chemicals. I won't be going back ever! I waited at least a month to write this review because I didn't want my anger affecting what I wrote. But since I've been to her, I have resorted to wearing hats and scarves daily until my hair grows back. This hair cut is a definitely decreased my confidence with how I look. read more

What a great experience. I am a VERY practical person, and I like that Doris is very practical as well. I found her online and decided to call and set up an appt. - I got an answering service, but she called back in a few hours, and we set up a consultation so she could see my hair, and (I didnt know it), give me PRICES (yay!). That was the best part. She was very cool - I had to cancel my first consultation and she graciously moved it - no problem. When she did consult, she told me everything she would do to my hair, and recommended treatments, and EXACT prices for each treatment. Then we set the appt. She has a small, one person salon, so she is never overbooked - I was her only client at that time, and did me start to finish - just how I like it. She lets you select the music, explains every treatment as she goes, and is very professional! I was getting my hair done for a wedding and she even offered to fit me in to touch me up if necessary closer to the date. Pricey for a first time, but the $$ was up-front, and there were no hidden fees. A great experience, and my hair thanks me. VERY very worth it. read more
