With the current and unprecedented social distancing restrictions in place. I got caught between the placing a deposit and traveling to perform a sea-trial and pick-up my boat. With no sense of how long or how severe the health and economic impacts will be, I requested that my deposit be returned. TommyO (whom I have yet to personally meet) immediately empathized and did not hesitate to assure me that Whalertowne business practices place people first; that's just who they are. As pleasant as he was during the sale, he cheerfully returned my deposit in full. I see what TommyO meant; not by word but by deed. When things return to normal, its Chesapeake Whalertowne where I will return; they have earned my trust. Jim B.

A rarity among mechanics and electronics technicians, Chris has a passion for the technical stuff and loves the challenge. Chris of Dockside has been the only vendor of any kind to call and follow up post-service. He is also very professional, polite, and owns the right tools and equipment. I used Chesapeake Dockside Services in Annapolis, Maryland for many years for maintenance on my…read moreboat. I had a great relationship with Chris (the owner) and Rob over the years. For most of that time, service was solid -- they generally showed up on time, were helpful, and I paid every bill promptly. We had a good relationship for a long time. Over the last year or two, though, things slipped noticeably. They started showing up haphazardly, often not on the days they promised, and it would take a week to a few weeks to get any email confirmation or follow-up. Communication became very spotty. That came to a head when I was selling my boat and needed a tachometer issue fixed -- the engine was over-revving. I contacted Chris directly, explained it was time-sensitive because the boat was being surveyed for sale, and was told I'd be added to the list and taken care of quickly. Instead, I waited five weeks with no update, emailed twice with no response, and finally had to call the office myself to ask what the delay was. That's when Austin told me Chris and Rob were both out on vacation at the same time, leaving him as the only guy handling everything -- with zero communication to me beforehand that there'd be any delay. I was told a tech would come out that Monday. Austin confirmed he'd be there. He never showed. When I followed up Thursday, he said he'd just gotten busy and never made it out -- his response was basically, "good luck, I hope it turns out okay for you." The pre-sale survey happened before the tachometer was ever fixed. As a direct result, I had to lower the overall price of the boat and create a $2,000 seller's allowance during negotiations. I lost several thousand dollars because they didn't show up and fix the problem like they said they would. Despite a decade of loyalty and on-time payments, the lack of communication and missed commitments during a time-sensitive repair left me feeling like I was no priority whatsoever, and that our long-standing relationship didn't matter at all. I felt betrayed, and this growing pattern of unprofessionalism and lack of caring has reached a point where I would not recommend them, nor would I ever use their services again if I get another boat. You're paying a premium and getting low-budget service.

I decided to call back and the same woman said that we are busy and hung up the phone. I couldn't believe that she just hung up so I called back the next morning and explained that I had called twice for an estimate with no return call. I then asked is that their normal way of doing business and she said yes and hung up. Wow, talk about sorry service!!! Stay as far away from this company as you possibly can.
