I had a Turkish friend bring me here for the first time at 10 o'clock at night, and I've realized why people who can't or won't drink alcohol don't seem to miss it. I got drunk off the sugar content alone after eating 2 of these bad boys. By which I mean the baklava. The slices of cake are even more intimidating and will require between 2-3 people to finish. The wait to get in gets longer the later in the day it gets, so if you come here after 6PM, good luck waiting less than 15-30 minutes to get in.
The menu is enormous, but you won't find any protein here. And, the closest thing you'll find to a green food is the pistachio baklava. In short, everything but the clotted cream - amazing, by the way - and the drinks contains sugar.
Bring the foodie that I am, and much to my friend's dismay, I ordered everything that caught my eye. Not the best choice, and not just because of the prices. I started to feel a little too hyper after the first few bites. Regardless of which baklava you get, they will all contain a certain amount of honey in them, and the sugar content will be through the roof. So, if you're not a professional baklava eater (A.K.A. Turkish), go for the classic that has only 3 pieces.
My second piece of advice is, if you're a coffee-lover, order the tea. Turkish coffee still tastes like mud; mildew flavour and all.
Finally, this may sound like a completely random thing to have on a sweets menu, but the buffalo milk clotted cream may be the best choice you make; namely because the neutral creamy flavour cuts through the sweetness like milk through spiciness. Kudos if you opt for their Turkish ice cream, which is actually less sweet than the baklava and has the most satisfying chewy texture. The pistachio is, by far, the fan favourite.
