The entire play area is rubber floored and is designed for children 5 years and younger. It looks like such a fun place to be. There's a really large lawn area within the park, great for frisbee throwing or kicking a ball. The playground does get some shade from the trees around it. There's a bike track that runs behind this pretty little park. This is most definitely a 'destination playground'. Thank goodness I found one! This is a place for…read morebirthday parties, work Christmas parties, get-togethers and why-not weekend adventures. It has wonderful play equipment, lots of space, sheltered table and chairs, beautiful trees and lawn, toilets and drink fountains. This is such a pretty and well maintained area with many walks and sections to the park. I have included a map of the park so you can have an idea of the space and fun you can have there. If you're wanting to have a large gathering at this park, I would suggest calling the Onkaparinga City Council (the number is listed in the business info section) to see if there's a booking system or a requirement to being able to request a certain area of the park. Visiting Thalassa would be a 'whole day' adventure to get the most out of the place. It sure looks like great fun and is definitely on my list of 'places to go back to and explore further'. I'm not sure if dogs are allowed at this park. The train is obviously designed for younger children and the other play equipment is used mostly by older children, only for the fact that there's a lot of climbing things. There aren't even steps up to the slide. The elderly gentleman in the photos wanted the children in his care to be "Super Stars" hehehe. That's the only reason why I've included the photo of them on the swings. He was quite insistent that I take the photo. Sweet man :-) There is some tree shade here but don't rely on that. Depending on what time of day you visit, there may be no shade over any of the equipment. The playground area is fully fenced. No dogs allowed. *No dogs allowed*

This may not be the biggest of playgrounds but it does have a good blend of equipment for different ages....and it's new! As far as a quiet neighbourhood playground goes, this is great. I couldn't see if there was a drinking fountain but the norm for Mitcham Council is that there wouldn't be one. If you're a local, this may not be a big deal but it's something that I like to see at playgrounds. There isn't a lot of shade apart from that cast by the gorgeous trees but that falls mostly on the lawn area and not the playground. The whole area is fully fenced and while that usually means (for Mitcham Council at least) that dogs aren't allowed, I didn't see any signs saying that.

Ok, it's not quite Aussie bush but there are a lot of trees here and the playground blends right in. From the road I couldn't even tell it was there and I could imagine the mind of a young child would easily get swept up into an imaginative scenario. The equipment is pretty old and a little dated but it's still fun. It's designed for older children. It's fenced all the way around, has toilets (that get locked at night), a drink fountain, a beautifully shaded table area and a variety of play equipment....even one of the good old 'round-a-bouts' is still there! All of the play equipment has rubber ground and there's even a lawn area for those who would like to flick out a picnic rug. Perhaps the only downfall (and not a huge one at that) is that it butts right up against the train line so every now and then you have to yell for about 15 seconds. There's no shade cloth over the play equipment but most of the tables are in the shade and there's naturally a lot of trees in the area so it could just be in the middle of the day that it gets direct light. The whole area is wheel chair accessible, even the toilets. The lawn area could be a little hard for wheels though, it tends to get a bit dippy and bumpy. *No dogs allowed*

But there's a reason it's called a 'playground' and not a 'park'. There's a great variety of play equipment. It's very, very difficult to get bored with the play equipment here. And if you manage it, challenge achieved! Then you can go straight back onto being interested again. Because of the focus on play equipment, it may seem there's a lot less to do for parents and other attendees. Perhaps this is true. Unless you're a badass like me, who likes to ruin the fun all the kids are having by having more fun yourself. And the toilets are okay too, I guess.

With a huge area of playground equipment, and a towering cubby house housing a flying fox, swings, a teeter totter and best of all, plenty of trees to climb and hide during a game of hide and seek. There is enormous shade available here and they have great BBQ facilities, seating benches, toilets with a changing table and a drinking fountain. We love coming here. Throw a picnic rug, walk bare foot on the mulch or soft grass, twirl, run, dance or jump. So much of fun and pleasure as you soak up nature's beautiful aroma, sights and sounds.

Its free! and the best things in life really are. 2. It's enclosed! with metal bar fencing that doesn't resemble a prison and yet still has the same effect. niiice. 3. There is an old steam engine which is the feature of the play equipment. I sure there's some sort of history lesson in that...yay! the park is educational as well!! 4. There is a bathroom with a change table and its clean enough that you can use it before you get absolutely desperate! 5. There are park benches available within the fencing and outside too, so if you have older kids with you too they can run around on the grassy area. 6. I was a kid once, and my folks used to take me to this play ground and I thought it was awesome. 7. There are BBQ facilities, so you can have a gathering there and keep the kids occupied while everyone else does adult things, like drinking beer! only kidding guys, this is a dry zone and that would be slightly irresponsible. 8. It's an ideal place to take the kids if you're out shopping in Stirling because there's enough equipment and hills to occupy the small ones while you socialise or relax on the benches. You see family gatherings and events in the rotunda or at the bbq and benches of this park all the time. Parking's good and immediate as the park shares with the community theatre across the way, there's a drink fountain and public toilet on the same premises. I was particularly fond of climbing up on the steam roller and playing driver when I was a lad, but the rest of the play equipment is great too. Lots of variation and challenges for kids to tackle.
