The Hacker Lab is in a great downtown location. It is a warehouse size, multi-roomed building that offers the budding business person a chance to rent an office space of their own. Rooms vary in size for that private office, to meetings or class rooms, to a large, spacious work shop. All in one place, to help the entrepreneur and creative minded alike. Even machinery, hardware and techno equipment are available on the premises and still expanding. The members of the Hacker Lab were very nice in educating us about their facilities during our Elite Yelp event, in which they graciously allowed us to invade and snoop. This facility has so much going for it, that I see it doing well. Membership and rental fees vary, but quite reasonable. And they are accessible 24 hours a day. If anyone is looking for an office space, start their own business, or pursue artistic endeavors, forget about wasting that spare bedroom, attic or garage, this is the place to check out! read more

"Build. Code. Unite" SITREP This is the motto of the Hacker Lab in Sacramento. As it were, only a few blocks away from where I live. Their mission is a simple one: they "aim to educate folks and seed start-ups with community driven resources." SETUP It is a wonderful warehouse style venue space. I have memories of this physical lay-out when it USED to be Sub-Q tattoo parlor. My friend and fellow Yelper Rich K. also used to sub-let a space from Sub-Q for his music business Zoundhaus, for guitar instruction. However, when Sub-Q lost their lease, Rich had to move as well, which was a shame, because this was prime location in Midtown. So of course I was waiting with baited breath to see what would show up here. ENTER HACKER LAB So since I've been back to this "location" as it is now Hacker Lab, it is a treat to see how the set-up had changed since those previous Sub-Q & Zoundhaus days. This past Saturday Night I got to meet the leader of our local Hacker Lab, Eric, and he explained how Hacker Lab was desiged to be a workspace for BOTH students & professionals in this software & hardware space. This is an incredibly cool "tech-hacking, company-building, knowledge sharing space," as they describe it. What does that mean? It's a place where entrepreneurs, mainly of the technical variety, can rent office space and pursue their first million. They boast thirteen private and semi-private offices, open collaborative space, private meeting rooms, and a large conference room. It's actually a huge building. What I like the most is that it's an affordable way to get yourself an office and out of the house while looking professional, even if you may not feel like it. Hacker Lab is a creative geek space. There are rooms available for meetings and computer stuff. There's a library of tech books. When I was there for a fun and fabulous Yelp event, there was an Atari set up and we gotto play old school games, including Pong. There was a guy there doing 3-D printing. Another guy was working on making a computer game. There was a huge space in the back with all kinds of tech machinary that I totally didn't understand. There are classes and events. The monthly membership is reasonably priced, and you're able to get some feedback and suggestions from like-minds. Had High Hopes for this place. I signed up online and started my month in May. It wasnt as hot then but This is near the end of June and they are "still working with Management on installing AC." In return they offered a free class For your Troubles. Keep in mind this is Sac you know how how it gets. I will try other co working labs. Build it and they will come.............. Where else can anyone and everyone come together to figure out the next great thing or tweek the almost next great thing? Where beverages flow, snacks prevail and the sound of clicking keyboards become ideas in motion. So we attended our first Yelp event at Hacker Lab and the place is cool. There is tons of space available, large rooms, small rooms a conferernce room, audio/visual gear pretty much anything you can think of they have available for rent! I was lucky enough to attend the Yelp Elite event hosted at Hacker Lab and I'm glad I attended because otherwise I would have never known about Hacker Lab. It's a really cool warehouse space for anyone to work. The standard membership is $99 a month, and it's only $45 for students. This seems pretty fair because you get 24 access, wifi, conference/meeting room access, and coffee/tea/water. It just seems cool to have a workplace to go to, if you need one. Plus, it's clean too. If you don't plan on using the space that often, they also have some cheaper options available. They have their own parking lot, but street parking seems to be pretty easy otherwise (at least when I visited in the evening.) read more

This place is like Nirvana for us geeks (and geek wanna-bes!) The space is so comfortable - couches and other comfy seating abound... and an impressive library of techie references! Every time I'd think of a topic and wonder if they had a book on it, PRESTO, I'd easily locate it. I wish this place had been around when I was in college! The location is great, parking was easy and I love their goal to assist small start-ups... what a great grass-roots effort! Super cool place! My buddy N'Shawn over at Thinkhouse invited me to a meet n greet pizza and beer presentation about HTML stuff last week. It was actually pretty informative......... if you have a long enough attention span. The dude talked and talked and talked for at least an hour and a half. I probably went through 3-4 beers. I give them props though for quality beer and pizza. No Little Ceasar's or Coor's Light, so I was impressed. I even found the greatest gift idea... an origami sculpture made out of tape!!! read more

I've been hearing about Hacker Labs from the Meetup app and my friends, and all I have heard was great things. This is definitely a place Sacramento can be proud of. There isn't a place like this that is so involved with its customers and community. COming into this place, I did not know what to expect. It was like a giant playground for me. I needed a space that was not a coffee shop so I could meet with an intern weekly. I met some good people at Hacker Lab and got what I needed for space, professionalism, and a quiet but collaborative space to work. It was affordable for my needs with plenty of options should I need them (conference rooms, kitchen, some equipment, etc. and pretty good selection of music if you wanted). The classes weren't really for my needs, but I thought they looked pretty interesting, and I think the work they do in the community is pretty exceptional and fun. They are a respectable place. The only reason why I give this place four stars is because on several occasions the co-owner was not very approachable and she would just look at me like I was bothering her or that I didn't fit in when I had some questions, which put me a little at unease - something that I didn't feel with the gentleman that work there. Perhaps its just a female thing. It shouldn't change your mind you from coming here though. Parking in the area is not really an issue with metered parking and occasionally you can get a spot in their small parking lot. Overall, I'd come here again if I needed the space. read more

Loved the place. It's like a gym membership for people who want to be productive. $100 a month, $50 for students. More options if tou want more than access. like a desk. In a room. I noticed a woodworking area, screen printing room, metal working area including welder. 3-d printer. The possibilities are endless! Great workspace! I poked around this shared-use workspace and it is the real deal. It is fully outfitted for any entrepreneur to set themselves up to tackle projects of all sizes. I went here for a yelp event and I thought it was a really cool place. They had a demo about how someone had a computer program set up to this machine to create cute little figures. They also have a huge workshop in the back and they place really seems to encourage people to channel their inner programmers. If I was a programmer I would be at this place all the time. If they had cool or fun classes that I could sign up for and try some of the stuff I would do that too. read more

Hackerlab is more than just a cowokring/office space, it's a complete hacker and maker space. All 12 or so office rooms are currently rented, with a wait list to get in. Membership is reasonable considering everything you have access to: Wifi, Coffee/Tea, woodworking tools, metalworking tools, electronics lab, conference room, and (very soon) an open computer lab. They've also lockers to keep stuff if you need to leave it there securely. The Hacker Lab is one of the most amazing places in Sacramento. Not only does it provide a wonderful meeting area for computer lovers of all levels but Sac Makers, a private charter school for grades 6th-12th resides deep in the heart of this amazing place. I am a mother who has recently sent my teenage boy (who was not doing well in school both academically and socially) and have seen major progress and improvements in him in a matter of weeks. This awesome school teaches hands on, applicable skills that prepare their students for functional jobs in the workforce. From 3D printing, graphic and game design, furniture making, and so much more- this school offers students a wide range of learning options that would fit any hands-on student.
