A fantastic gift shop off the beaten path!! You will find all sorts of natural soaps and lotions; a large assortment of jewelry, tablecloths, placemats, clothing and handbags and totes. Be sure to go upstairs where you will find an amazing Christmas area with the cutest ornaments around. They have kitchenware and novelty items. There is a great section upstairs if you are looking for the perfect baby shower gift! You can also find a wide variety of puzzles to keep you busy on rainy days. Heading back downstairs is a fun selection of children's toys and... THE CANDY! Penny candy like you may remember and if not, you are in for a treat! So many items to choose from and you can mix and match. The staff are lovely and patient while you choose what to take home. This general store is worth the trip to Hope Valley and a quick trip off 95. Be sure to pay them a visit! read more

Amazing selection of gifts and goods. Do not miss the candy counter. Staff is super friendly.

My go to spot for gifts, where there is so much crammed into the old bard. Customer attention and wrapping is always simple and free. Making gifting less of a chore and more of a pleasure. read more

A fun store to visit. You will leave with at least one item you like that you never saw anywhere else. Candy is fun too!!

Definitely worth a stop. As the first reviewer mentioned, they have an amazing candy counter. My favorite candy is the chocolate-dipped pretzels, although they have everything a child or adult could want in the way of candy from wax bottles to candied ginger. This store also has a great selection of jewelry, gifts, clothing and especially bath and beauty products, including Crabtree & Evelyn and Burt's Bees. They have a Yankee Candle section (with some other soy candles too) in the back. Upstairs you can find some great ornaments, Christmas and baby stuff. I've been going here for many years, and each time I go there is something new and wonderful. The owners are wonderful people and one of them is usually there when you stop by. Great atmosphere. read more

Hack and Livery General Store - a bottle opener - Cards & Stationery Near Me - Hope Valley, Rhode Island

It's like an old country store. Unique gift items and old penny candies. An amazing selection! Love this place!

Cute little store with tons and tons of knickknacks. There's Yankee candle with the works ; candles, wax tarts and warmers, votives and so on. There's tons of kids craft books, painted ponies, stationary, Burt's bees, jewelry, seasonal items, home decor, jarred penny candies and neat kids toys. As for the candy I really liked the dark chocolate covered orange Peel candy. But what made me jump up like a little kid was the jelly nougats. I love those. I got my kids some geodes and some Mexican jumping beans. Fun place to shop!! read more

The Hack & Livery is a great store to have in our little town! I can always find a unique gift with complimentary wrapping. They have great table linens, Christmas decorations, handbags, jewelry, toys, greeting cards, and much more. It's also obvious that they prize customer service here; you are the center of their attention once you're waited on, which can take a little while during holiday shopping season, but worth the wait! read more

Yep, 5 stars. Count 'em. 5. For a little general store. In little old Richmond, Rhode Island. Worth a stop? Hell yeah. Worth a return visit? You betcha. * Fantastic Selection of Candy (penny candy in over 100 glass jars) * Yankee Candle (a pretty big display) * Burt's Bees (I love this stuff for winter lip protection) * Crabtree & Evelyn (my wife likes this) * Painted Ponies (I have no idea what the hell this is but they have it) * Faire Glenn (I don't know anything about this stuff either) * Bean Pod Candles (or this or why they are popular) This place is like the Jelly Mill in Manchester, Vermont or Vermont Country Store in Rockingham, Vermont only a bit smaller than those two. Lots of fun things in a small space but it does not seem overcrowded or cluttered. The upstairs is currently decked out with Christmas items including the glass Christmas Pickle (of questionable legend and origin). The stock changes seasonally and right now the first floor features a fair amount of Halloween-related items. Fun. Fun. Fun. A very nice and helpful staff. Decent prices. Great selection. read more

Hack and Livery is a landmark in this area. It's been around since 1888! First as a real Hack and Livery, then as a hotel, before it's current state as a gift store/candy counter. The candy counter! This is a unique shop has within the most amazing old-fashioned candy counter which in itself, makes the trip worthwhile. They've got hard candies, swizzle sticks, rock candy, licorice, as well as the more popular stuff. I spent much of my formative years just up the road a bit, which made it easy to spend my babysitting money whenever I could! It's amazing I never had a cavity. So in order to give a honest, adult oriented view, I had to wait until I visited as a real grown-up because I honestly couldn't remember anything else they sold, since the candy was all I ever cared about (I swear! I have a mortgage and everything!). To my surprise, they have quite a nice assortment of gifts, home decor items, candles, toys...of course lots and lots of country-esque flavored items, it is after all, Hope Valley. Since it was Christmas, they had an amazing assortment of holiday decorations, lights, ornaments, candles, you name it! You can find it right on Rte 3, about halfway between exits 2 and 3 making it an easy on and off 95 if you're passing through! Don't forget....CANDY!!!! read more

I liked this place, they have a great selection of quirky stuff. It's expensive though (really $3 for a small rubber snake?) but fun to look around. Great candy selection. The workers were really nice too. read more

I recently moved to Hope Valley and today was a day to explore the little shops. This is by far my favorite. They have something for everyone and everything that I love! read more

There is a reason why you are seeing over and over why this store is getting 5 star reviews, because it's THAT AMAZING! This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I loved going there as a child checking out the penny candies they had, root-beer barrels, red licorice pipes, and all those other little odds and ends. Every Christmas we knew our stockings would be filled with so many cute and unique gifts from this store. Paddle balls, Chinese finger cuffs/traps, little tins with great lip balm, ya silly fun stuff like that. While it's not often I get a chance to get back home, when I do I make sure to visit this little store. Brings back so many wonderful memories and every time I walk through those doors, I feel like a kid again. This trip purchases were a pair of boxers with lobsters on them, a cast iron lobster bottle opener and then some odds and end candies. Prices are fair but to me this store is priceless! read more

It's a cool little store, lot of overpriced collectibles, but also, a really great sock selection! I'm not sure who their clientele base is, as the average Hope Valley/Hopkinton resident isn't likely to shop here regularly. It's a gift shop, in essence. I'm giving it 3.5 stars, mostly because I don't typically purchase anything when I go in, and the staff seems to cater to the tourists who wander in looking for rock candy, from their extensive candy area. It's an odd fit for this small town, but still sorta fun. read more

Love the Hack! I basically get every gift for b-days, holidays, etc. from here. Boys, girls, men, and women, I can find something for them all. Really good selection of greeting cards, stuffed animals, salt and pepper shakers, Precious Moments figurines, slippers, candles, candy, and so much more! The people are also very friendly and are happy to offer complimentary gift wrapping. read more

Eclectic is a good term for this wonderful general store. I like taking my grandaughters there on a shopping spree for them to get a toy which seem to be different than department stores. I also like to look at their jewely collection, clothes and housewares. And let's not forget it's a good place to get Yankee Candles. The candie counter reminds me of the days when I was a kid buying candy at the local general store where I grew up. Lots to choose from. This is a fun store worth stopping in even if you just browse. read more

my favorite store in hope valley...penny candy, beautiful jewelry, nice candle and home decor selection

Love this place. Always neat stuff. I always seem to buy something from here, even if it is just candy.

Caution with getting there "on time". Store hrs post as opening at 10am on Sundays. Arrived at 10:07am, noticed lights off. A female employee was walking toward door, unlocked door. My 10yr old daughter gets out of car, female employee yells to her (I had to open door to listen) rudely "you need to give us some time, we just got here" and then slammed store door (I have noticed that the door shuts loudly if not careful to give her some small amt of credit). Kept shades drawn for next 5mins. So much for quaintness! My intent was to purchase 4x $25.00 gift certificates for Hope Valley teachers/staff. My daughter stated "I don't think we should go in there and buy from them". My thoughts exactly! Being a local, I find it convenient to stop in for occasional gifts in addition for treats for my children. Unfortunately today put a bad taste in mouth, not eager to return. (Note: customer service has been 50/50 here, this is not a one time occurrence). Buying locally and from local owners should be preferable however I also expect a different atmosphere as well. read more
