SERVPRO of Blount County - Bathtub after they were all done

    SERVPRO of Blount County

Our relative, a disabled Vietnam Veteran with heavy exposure to Agent Orange, and his partner, a…read morestroke survivor, had sunk into filthy living conditions. We hired a company to move 2 dumpsters of trash out of the house and hubby and I filled another dumpster. We cleared all floors and countertops, carted away to our house clothing and miscellaneous. We hired ServPro of Blount County to clean and sanitize before the painters and floor people arrived - totally based on their reputation and advertising for cleaning up small disasters. ServPro knew that these people had become hoarders and the invoice stated that it was a hoarder cleanout. I was told ServPro of Blound County would do the job on a Monday and finish Tuesday. Based on that, we scheduled painters, furniture movers, and flooring. ServPro of Blount County had some staffing issues which slowed them down and they said they were finished on Thursday. When we returned to the vacant house on Friday, the floors, tops of all the furniture, behind light switches, top of cabinets, and many, many other areas were filthy and/or still had cobwebs. I texted them and they came out Monday and Tuesday. The floors were better (but still dirty, the tops of furniture extremely dusty, and the painter cleaned out the dust and filth behind switch plates. The bathtub is still filthy (the picture does not do it justice). Only the front of the refrigerator was clean, the side was yellow, even though hubby pointed this out. Perhaps it was a communication issue on my part. Perhaps I did not make myself clear about making the house appropriate to move back into (we were paying for our disabled relatives to stay at a motel). My husband and I spent all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday preparing at least one clean room for the couple to move back into while the painters finish. Flooring had to be rescheduled for 2 weeks from now and we will need to move these disabled relatives out again for that. I would never use ServPro of Blount County again. And what did the (scheduled) *2-day* cleaning and sanitizing cost? Glad you asked! $5,268. I should have gone to another company. Many regrets.

Problem being neither he nor co-owner Ashley bothered to inform me that it would be almost two months before they would get a crew out to reinstall the wall and flooring. During that time I had studs exposed and was walking on bare concrete. Ashley is extremely poor at communication. It took her over a month to let me know she was having trouble getting the repair crew out. Lots of stonewalling. No apologies. Never again! There are lots of competent contractors out there. Call them first.

On a Saturday in December of 2012 we had a small fire in our home which caused LOTS of smoke…read moredamage. We called what we thought was a local company and on Sunday representatives from Service Master arrived on the scene. This crew seemed to be thoughtful and competent. On Monday we came home to talk with the area manager, project manager and a different crew. The area manager was very flippant in his attitude towards the job and said it was a piece of cake. Meanwhile my husband and I were sharing a hotel room with 2 dogs. My husband was coming by daily and found that our project manager was supervising day labor people and it seemed no one really knew what was going on. For most of our 13 days in the hotel there were only a few days that we even had people working on the house. After 5 days I came by the house to see how things were going. Things still looked like a disaster, my wood floors had not been covered or protected in any way, my bathroom tile floors were black with footprints, I found a leather chair and ottoman outside on a porch, all of my houseplants on the deck, and items in the house just strewn about. When I talked with my project manager I told him I was concerned about their lack of respect for my house and my belongings. He said he had honestly not seen a problem with anything they had done but apologized. We were able to get back into the house on a Thursday and as soon as I walked in I was shocked. The wood floor was still covered with black grime and an dirty film and the grout and tile in the kitchen and bathroom were black. I called the project manager and told him they had to come back and do the floors. He told me they were done and if I had any problems I would need to contact my insurance company. I called the main office and found I was dealing with a company out of Rome, GA not Maryville and once I let them know my displeasure they said they would send someone the next day at no charge. This was fine except for the no charge part; we nor our insurance company had received a quote and although the free labor started on Friday we didn't get the bill until the following Monday. As we started looking further into the condition our home was left we found that most of our belonging were in boxes stacked precariously in the laundry room and most of the contents were not cleaned or even wrapped or protected. Pottery and glass were in a box with a hammer, boxes had blood smears on them, boxes were not marked and contained contents were from multiple rooms and even multiple floors. Many irreplaceable items were broken. On Friday we had our adjustor come by and he was appalled at what he saw and found. In order to move in I had to spend an entire day cleaning the bathroom cabinets, shelves, inside the laundry chute, and our bedroom closet. None of this as well as whole rooms had been cleaned. The one poor soul they sent from GA on Friday spent most of the day on the floors and once he saw the rest called the office to tell them he needed to bring a crew with him the following Monday. He came back and they sent him with one other person. They had to redo the carpets upstairs as well as clean everything else that had been left. They were here until Thursday of that week. Then there were my 7 month old couches. I told the project manager they were new and if they couldn't clean them properly I needed to know that, he said no problem. He cleaned them then Scotch guarded them leaving huge black stripes. The GA guy cleaned them a second time and the same project manager Scotch guarded them again. The third time they used a really harsh chemical that began to break down the fibers and I told them there would not be a fourth time. It took many phone calls and lots of determination but I finally got the couches replaced. Through this whole I felt all they wanted to do was make me go away and never did I feel they were there to take care of me or my home. They never should have taken this job. They told me when I first called about things not being done that they were very understaffed and the project manager was not experienced. This company is all about making money, not taking care of the people that trust them to help put their lives back together. I finally had to contact the main company and they assigned a mediator. The mediator was wonderful and because of him I would try another Service Master franchise but I would not let this franchise come into my home again if they were paying me the almost $20,000.00 they charged. They turned a not so bad event into one of the worst events of my life and it is their lack of respect for my home, my life, and my belongings I will never forget.

If you cherish having peace and quiet don't move here. The staff are very friendly but the building itself is extremely ran down the owner needs to put more money into this dump and fix it up! Also the parking is trash how do you not have enough spots to accommodate your tenants and expect residents and guests to park on the street or park over in the parking lot where Panera bread is and walk back to the apartments? Completely ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to move because 414 flats is NOT the way to go!

The fire alarm has falsely gone off 3 separate times due to a faulty sprinkler system. Apparently this is not a new problem and has been going on for years. This is not only a safety hazard but extremely inconvenient as the alarms have gone off at 2 AM, 6 AM and another at 10 AM. When the alarm went off at 6 AM, we sat outside for about 15 minutes and the fire truck still had not shown up. I decided to call it in myself because clearly the alarm system at this apartment complex does not even alert a fire station nearby. I keep an extremely clean apartment and would not expect any bugs to be in the apartment and yet I have found several cockroaches. I am assuming they are coming through the vents, as the vents are absolutely disgusting and most likely have not been cleaned since the building was built in the 60s. I have told the manager about this and was told the exterminators were out till the beginning of the year. On top of that, my bathroom reeks of cigarette smoke nearly every other day. It smells like I went in there, shut the door, and smoked a whole pack of cigarettes. I don't smoke and this is beyond disgusting. I believe someone is smoking in their bathroom and it is coming through the vents. Once again, I have told the manager about this and his response was to ask if I knew which apartment it was coming from. How would I know that??? I informed him that I did not know, and I'm not sure how I could know and received no response. The manager even had the audacity to post a letter on all the resident's doors detailing how this was a smoke free building and he has received several complaints about marijuana smells. I have not once smelled weed in the building, yet every single time I walk in, I am forced to walk through a cloud of smoke as the residents like to sit on a bench (that literally has an giant standing astray next to it) directly in front of the door and smoke. He wrote in the letter that we were not allowed to smoke within 300 feet of the building, yet I see him smoke directly next to it all the time. I am guessing over half the residents in this building smoke due to how bad the elevator reeks at all times and how every single time I am going inside I smell smoke coming from somewhere. Oh, and my air has been working on and off for a couple weeks now. Will randomly stopped working and since it's the winter, I have my windows shut. So when I come home it so hot and stuffy in there my dog profusely panting and drooling. It will also switch to heat by itself. To top it all off, only one of the elevators has been working for almost a month now. So 100+ people are all using one elevator. If you are in a rush, you better run down the stairs because you will be waiting for the elevator for a while. You will frequently hear the alarm bell from inside the elevator because it gets stuck between floors. That happened to me once while I was trying to let my dog out during my lunch. I was also in the elevator one time when it stopped on the first floor and I was asked to get out so the EMTs could wheel a stretcher with a dead body into the elevator. No one was informed or warned of what was going in, but apparently a man died in his apartment and naturally they did not tell anyone anything about it. The hallways always smell disgusting, my apartment was filthy when I moved in (spent hours scrubbing the floors and cabinets to get the grease off of them), and there is more dog poop outside than grass. This place is grossly overpriced and the amenities are all subpar at best. There is not enough parking for every single resident, even when all the visitor parking spots are utilized and yet you have to pay $50 for a parking pass. The pool was nice, but they had to close it early because grown men and women in their 30s and 40s still think they are in college and like to get plastered up there and have sex in and around the pool. Don't waste your money. There are much nicer places for a lot cheaper and you won't have to deal with the plethora of problems this building has.
