Longer version (for the brave) - On my first few days in HK I've decided to explore the area around central and Hong Kong station by foot, while accidentally stumbling upon this place. While looking for it in Yelp I've realized they are quite popular around town, so now I also feel lucky! This place is a store with stacks of clothes, not sure if it's all second hand but it all looks rather vintage-y. The pieces are divided in price ranges and there are some discounts if you buy a few. It's also divided by type- you won't find the racks with mixed clothing, which makes shopping even easier. I got here once and bought a few shirts, got loads of compliments and went back to buy more. The last in the store is very nice and there's so much to chose from I really get lost - so I only went for shirts :) The store is pretty packed and hard to move in... During rush hours there are a few people inside too, a fun time indeed! This is a place I'll definitely go back to during my next visit. So cool!

Thrift shopping isn't quite a thing here in HK, and the closest thing we can get is these vintage…read moreshops. Mee & Gee is one of the few bigger names in the vintage world here in HK. It's funny how it's located right there, and the heart of Central, next to all those overpriced high-end brands. That is some 5,000 words worthy of study of Hong Kong, but I'll save it for later. You can't miss Mee & Gee if you walk through Li Yuen Street West. Minimal design or anything fancy, but you will be greeted by huge amount of clothes. Like tons. Closest to the entrance are the $5 (HKD) clothes. People constantly walking in and out, so squeeze through if you have to. The men's clothing was mostly on the second floor, so I walked up there and took a quick look. To be fair, the design of a lot of clothes there are considered out of fashion. But then, isn't fashion something just being recycled every decade? And at least, the way you carry it is all it matters. Brad Pitt and I could wear the same cloth, but being interpreted and criticized very differently... Clothes are fairly clearly categorized, all in good bargains and good conditions. I'd still recommend you to wash it before you wear it, obviously. Also, I'd pick clothes with a darker tones than a lighter ones, as some of the clothes here tend to have this old, yellowish, wash-out tones. Unless of course, that tone is exactly what you are looking for. I didn't end up buying the cloth I had in mind, mainly because I keep a minimal amount of clothes at home, and I wouldn't buy new ones unless I'm 100% certain. But yeah, at least I know the cheap option is always there.

Aalis Watch out!…read more Aalis has expanded. The new location in Central has been open for three months and the first store In Causeway Bay, which has been open for about 4 years, is still going strong. This is a one of a kind clothing shop. There was a pair of pants hanging on a rack that drew me into the store. They are a pattern of green, yellow, orange and white, high waisted, light and airy. The kind of remind me of throwback bellbottoms from the '70s. I've sworn I've seen my mom wearing a pair of these in an old black and white photo. The colorful fabric and lack of bell, give these pants a modern twist. They also carry a variety of tops which include statement setters and basics. I really like the use of asymmetrical lines in the clothing. It's just enough to say, "I'm cute, but not your plain old shirt." There are so many items in this store that make you think about great fashion used to be. One of my favorite things about this store is that they carry Nobeing jewelry. This jewelry is unique, bright and will make people turn their heads. Their use of metal and beading creates bold pieces that can be worn with both casual or elegant wear. When your feeling in the mood for something throwback, but cheeky, check out Aalis for some unique gear that pays honor to the good 'ol days.

They will only treat you better if think you are a good customer (from their eyes) and no customer oriented mind at all. I have my first time pre order experience at this shop recently, at the end my order can only be arrived 1 month later that I need to change another on stock items as I will be out of town for a long time. Only one fitting at cwb shop, there is another customer in store that time. The shop manager ask me go to their small stock room to try the clothes which do not have a door, even not able to turn your body at the narrow aisle! As they think I come for trouble, that's their mistake of holding my order much longer than plan without any follow up call until I ask. As I won't able to pickup the item if they can't ready at the committed time. Seriously , that's crazy but I didn't blame her, still acting polite. I told myself I won't buy this shop anymore. Will also tell my friends not to. Their price is not expensive (around $1k per piece) with a bit difference on style , but cutting is not nice actually. You will know what I mean if look for those better cutting items.

So I am always a little bit surprised by how few hats I actually buy from Nop. I always go in. I seem to find it impossible to walk past this shop and not stick my head in for a sticky beak. There is often some truly bizarre headgear on display, I once bought a friend a horse-head-hat (complete with mane and ears) that I hear she has actually worn. But there is also a heck of a lot of 'hmmmmm', bland, stock on offer. For guys there's a good range of beanies and caps. For ladies, it tends to be the drab wool / felt hats in winter and straw in summer. I tend to feel a bit underwhelmed. This is not to say I haven't found things I like. I got a great red felt fedora, that I love and should wear more often. As with anything to do with fashion, especially things as utilitarian, but also as potentially controversial as hats, it all boils down to your particular needs and personal taste, but I think there is an over-abundance of stock at the two extreme ends of the spectrum and not enough funky stuff in the middle.
