But I…read morelike to think this review will help if someone thinks their incident at the hospital is isolated or exclusive to them. I was here for six days to be with my mother. Our biggest gripe was that she was not fed for hours on end. We kept inquiring, but we were told it was doctor's orders because she would be testing soon. We had arrived in the middle of the night, fine. But she wasn't able to get a room and was relegated to an ER curtained space for about nine hours. When she was finally moved to a room within the hospital, we inquired about breakfast as it was now 10am. To make a long story short, someone dropped the ball on communications, and our nurse was finally able to get my mother food that night around 6pm -- her first time eating since the day before at 4pm. Yes, I had outside food (i.e. apples and persimmons), but they kept saying she wasn't allowed to eat. Then, no one was able to confirm why that wasn't the case after all. I will never understand why it took so much effort to get her fed. Thankfully, there were no further issues with meals after that. She had to move rooms four times because of her fluctuating condition. The hospital is currently under renovation. Her room on the 4th floor and in the intensive care unit (ICU) were new and spacious, with digital boards. In fact, we were able to fit three recliners in her room in ICU. Her rooms on the 6th floor were old and significantly smaller, to the point where only the bed could fit comfortably. Also, we actually saw a roach outside the first room. Nevertheless, the support staff and nurses were phenomenal, as were the neurologists. There is free valet parking, a Starbucks inside, and a pianist played the grand piano in the lobby one day. He played holiday music since it was days before Christmas. I truly appreciated the thoughtful touches during such a high-stress time.

My Sentara Cardiologist alternates between this office in Chesapeake & the Fort Norfolk Plaza…read moreoffice, across Brambleton from the Sentara Norfolk General complex. The Fort Norfolk office had always been my choice because it's a closer & familiar route, has convenient parking and is near the Sentara Heart Hospital. I'll have to admit that I wasn't very happy when, needing to see him quickly, my only option was the Chesapeake office. I'm not familiar with the area. So venturing into unknown traffic timing, to see a doctor who is keen on starting the appointment on time or preferably early, made me apprehensive. Following WAZE's wonderful route guidance I headed south on I-64, east on Greenbrier Parkway then south on Volvo Parkway. The Sentara building sits on the east side of Volvo Parkway, rather far back from the road. Parking, including Handicapped, is plentiful. Here I was, not just on time, but early! So I've been back to this office several times. I still have issues with my lack of familiarity with the route, since I can choose lanes, turns and routes in Virginia Beach & Norfolk on autopilot. But the staff, RNs & NPs make up for that. The staff is very pleasant. Although Cardiology is quite busy during these times, they will always book appointments as a place holder with notes to try to get me in sooner. The doctor's preferred follow up date usually isn't available. But sometimes they can work magic. The Chesapeake office RNs who follow up on messages left on Voice Mail go far beyond any that I've had experiences with before. One even tracked down someone from another office who had called, but not left a message. I had no idea who had called since their caller ID is generic Sentara. The Chesapeake RN also managed to get me in at 8:30 the next morning with the Cardiologist. It was magic!! Thank you Jennifer. The Cardiologist & NP's MyChart responses to Blood Work are always prompt. That's so important when you've already seen the results. Thank you Dr. Robertson & Michelle. When I leave the office, considering there is no longer a time constraint, I always go home on the surface streets. WAZE has to direct me from Volvo Parkway to Kempsville Road. But once there, I'm on familiar terrain. I'll be coming back to this office more often. They provide service with a smile.

My mother had an appointment scheduled with Sentara Cardiology on July 8th, but it was canceled…read morebecause the doctor had a meeting. While I understand that schedules can change, what is unacceptable is that after canceling her appointment, the earliest available rescheduled appointment was not until January 2027. For patients needing cardiac care, a delay of more than six months could have serious health consequences. It is frustrating and concerning to have an appointment canceled by the provider and then be told there are no reasonable alternatives available. Patients deserve timely access to specialty care, especially when dealing with potential heart-related issues. We are now having to seek care elsewhere because waiting until 2027 is simply not an option. I hope Sentara reviews its scheduling practices and referral processes so other patients do not face the same situation.
