Don't get mislead by the shop front, this place is huge! And it's not a stationery store (like I thought because of the display) but an artist supply (like it says on the plaque). But they've also got stationery. Only when you enter and walk around you notice how big this shop is and their assortment is HU-MUN-GOUS! I haven't seen so many different paint / acrylic brands in all my life so far. I guess Van der Linde basically has got everything that you may ever need for painting (thousands of paint tubes and brushes) or being creative with paper whatsoever. They have more different articles than you can even imagine. All kinds of paper colours and sizes, sketch blocks, maps, foam boards, books about relevant topics, a vast stationery assortment, spray, easels, and and and. Some people say things are expensive there, but if you compare to some online stores in the Netherlands, it's the same price (at least for some calligraphy supplies; can't say about the rest). I was looking for wooden dowels. When I lived in the United States, I always purchased these from art supply shops so assumed it would be the same here. I went to the front desk, after not finding any dowels in the shop. I apologized for not knowing the dutch term for dowel, and asked the lady at the front desk if there were any in stock. She did not know to what I was referring but invited me to use the computer on the corner to look over her shoulder as she looked it up. She was so kind and friendly! First, she googled the English to dutch translation (turns out it is duevel), then she told me what sort of shop I could find them in, then she googled that, then she gave me directions to the closest shop that would have them! This while also busily ringing up other customers! She was really fantastic. The store is enormous, and has just about everything you could want. But, good customer service in the Netherlands is hard to find and over the top amazing customer service is as rare as a unicorn. I highly recommend patronizing this shop.

When I went to place the order at the counter, a third employee was taking my information and clearly didn't want to, asking why I needed it, why that brand, did I know what I was looking for (yes, yes I do) and carried on as if I was seriously putting him out. I get it, it's not fun to take down information and place special orders but when it's part of the job shouldn't it be done without blaming the customer?
