One piece of advice from Erin Benzakein from Floret about hiring a bookkeeper and accountant was that if you feel dumb or awful after meeting with either, then it's time for you to hire a new accountant/bookkeeper. I was having a hard time managing my own bookkeeping and was inquiring about this service. I met with Tara and she was condescending, defensive, and was gaslighting me when I started crying on the call after she went on a diatribe about the importance of bookkeeping. I also disagreed with her statement that "Bookkeeping is the backbone of your business." Unfortunately, Rose was also on the call and there wasn't any intervention. I would recommend Rose Brown only if you were just working with her and Darin, but would stay away if you are on a call with Tara.

I'm guessing it was some kind of mailer, but I'm glad fate directed me their way. It's a pretty unassuming location, I almost drove right past it the first time. The place itself seems to be run out of the porch of someones home ( The Colvins?). Far from being awkward, however, it gives it a very homey and comforting feel. Right down to the family photos, cookies and coffee, that greet you when you walk in It was such a good experience the first time that even though it was just a simple filing this year, I used them again. Both times, my agent was Barbara Conn. She was like that wise aunt, who always gives you really good advice. She was an expert at getting the maximum refund , right down to how many loads of laundry you do per year. Little tidbits like that make it worth the effort. Since I've never done any other tax service or software program, I can't cpompare it to anything. Their fee has been in the $200 range, but that seems worth it to me based on the amount they get me back. I'm thinking that only people in this area would use Colvin, and I hope they do. It may even be worth your time for you city folk to trek out here to get the Colvin treatment.
