My taxes were complete a Month ago. I paid for the services and was told the returns would be submitted electronically. ONE month later I was advised the electronic submission had not gone through and the returns needed to be mailed. How does it take ONE month to advise me of this!!!! I fully expected my returns would be filed promptly. ONE month feels like a very long time to NOT submit my taxes. Get a receipt from the agent to make sure your returns were actually sent!!!!! read more

They offer extended hours, were efficient in getting me in the same day, the office setting works to allow for privacy to meet with the tax advisor. i recently January 29, 2015 filed my taxes at the Scotts Valley office. I paid the extra money to have the "peace of mind" (a total of $240.00 to file) I waited weeks for a return and finally received a letter from the IRS requesting a re-submission of my w-2's and 1099s. I called the Scotts Valley Office to ask why that happened. They asked me to come back into the office with tax forms they filed for me. Why? don't know they should and did have copies. When i went into the office they said no we don't really need the originals "you are going to have to file again." Apparently there was a mistake made by H & R Block, and that but that part was not made clear to me until I arrived. The originally suggested I file a change or amended tax refund request, stating that i already received the original return and now I was filing for the difference. ( the mistake was in my favor by 1300.00) I was not agreeable because I had not received a refund at all. The IRS said I need to re-file with a letter explaining "my mistake" I had to take this "new form" to the post office and send it in registered return receipt at my expense on February 22, 2016. ( as per Joyce H&R block does not pay for postage) It is now March 16th and I still have no word on my return. I called H & R Block to ask why the IRS has not responded and why my refund is still only for the original filing amount. The answer was sorry when you file via mail you have to wait. I am still waiting but I will NEVER use H & R Block again. read more

I did my taxes yesterday with Mary Lynne Donnelly at H&R Block in Scotts Valley. I was really stressed out about my taxes, and this was my first time paying someone else to do them. I usually do them myself, but this was my second year in a row owing a lot of money, and I was over it. She went through my return a couple times, trying to get me extra money, and when we realized that I just owed a lot of money based on my withholding status, she helped me figure out the amount I needed to have withheld every pay period for this next tax year. She filled out a new W-4 for me, and I know that after I submit that to my employer, I won't be owing again next year. When she was completing my return, she showed me that although I could save $37 on my taxes by claiming my education expenses, I'd be paying a lot more in tax preparation fees. At that point, I was totally sold on her services. I'm coming back next year, and I'm very satisfied that my situation has been properly managed this year. Her professionalism and friendly manner made dealing with my tax issues a more pleasant experience than I thought possible, and she gave me an H&R Block water bottle at the end of the appointment. I bet she'll give you one if you ask for it. read more

DO NOT FILE TAXES WITH THIS COMPANY!! I signed up for their "Best of Both" program, which means you fill everything out online, then a tax pro looks at everything for you, reviews it, and is supposed to file your taxes for you. I was assigned Mary Lynne Donnelly, who assured me multiple times that she would electronically file my taxes for me. 9 weeks pass - my state and federal tax return never show up. I look online on my H & R Block account for more information, as well as the IRS website and state website to determine status of tax refund - everyone is unable to find information on my tax refunds. I call Mary Lynn Donnelly's office multiple times, and it just rings through and says they are only open by appointment, no option to speak to a person. They offer to transfer me to another office to speak to a person, same thing happens there. They transfer me to the main call center, where I get transferred again, and listen to 6 different commercials for non-related products before I finally hang up and go through the same process again. I finally am transferred to an actual person, who then tells me MY TAXES WERE NEVER FILED!!! Now I'm facing late penalties from the State of California, and the IRS, as well as charges of tax evasion. Obviously, this has been a huge amount of my time wasted, and unnecessary stress, not to mention additional fines and fees and potential liability!!! I am obviously livid. The person I finally reached on the phone was understanding, and said that supposedly the company will cover any late fees, but that it will take 24-48 hrs for a team on their end to do an "investigation" and to call me and let me know how to proceed/actually file my taxes. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I will never be using H&R Block again. read more

We did our taxes here in 2010 and had a fantastic experience so we went back for 2011. What a horrific experience we had this year. The person who helped us this year was a level 3 tax specialist,, Tim, he was awful. First he was rude and condescending and treated us as if we were unimportant. Second, he does not seem to have a good grasp of how to do taxes, he missed one of my W2 forms completely, did not report some of my income as paid family leave/unemployment (this results in a higher return) and he has absolutely no idea as to how to handle restricted stocks. This truly was a waste of time and we ended up collecting up all of our forms and leaving to come home and have someone else file our taxes. I will be very hesitant about going back to this H&R location again. Even the management did not help ease our concerns, when we brought this to their attention they came up with excuses for their tax specialist rather than coming up with some way to make the situation right with us. Heed my warning, IF you go here... avoid Tim as your specialist. I only wish someone else would have warned us. read more

I had recieved conflicting refund amounts from different online tools. I made an appointment with Joyce to hopefully help clear things up. She graciously explained why I may be getting conflicting information while E-filing. She walked me through my 1040 return and allowed me to return home to file for free.
