The client base immediately fled to find better prices. I was looking for a new accountant. Called this lady. She sounded smart and competent, I was going to hire her. I asked her to give me a price estimate of how much a final tax return (closing return) for a company that is now out of business due to COVID would cost. After getting a quote of $1,700 to do a final tax return, I was shocked. After I told her that it was totally unacceptable, she said that she needed like 12 hours with $100 or $90 per hour, I don't exactly remember, to "set up" the company on her system or some BS like that. The company is dead, out of business, why do you need to charge a horrible amount for set up? This is predatory, and I would say extremely predatory. She also recently moved from "poor" Boulder Creek to Capitola. I bet to look for wealthy clients in a new wealthy area. Terrible experience.

The call center said the Capitola office was open until 4pm and I should get a call back by 2pm confirming the appt for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm with John. I called the Capitola office at 3pm and the receptionist told me that the tax preparer who our appt was with was still w/a client. I explained that the call center said I would get a call confirming our appt with (for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm). The Capitola receptionist then said the office manager (a male?) had not put out the schedule for (9/21-26). She then said that she wrote us in for the appt. And as I thanked her, she said the Capitola office is closed on Wednesdays. I said that I'm confused, do I have an appt or not? She said the manager would see the scheduled appt and call me. On Monday (9/21) morning I was called by the Capitola office manager (a male). He said that I had a drop off appt scheduled for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm. I said that I scheduled us an in-person appt. He said those are not being done. I said that I misspoke and that it was a social distancing / in office / in person appt, and he replied "Oh, ok, good we are doing those." He then told me that he was going to call our tax preparer (John) and then call me back. Well, you guessed it that never happened. I just looked at the Capitola HR Bock website and the office is open by appt on Tuesday/Wednesday. Yet, I still do not know if we have an appt or not. Total management incompetence!! The only reason we travel to there is that John has prepared our taxes for decades. Later this morning (9/22) I called again...no answer...transferred to Florida... From there an email was sent to all email contacts for the Capitola office. About 10 minutes later my phone rang. It was the male office manager and he said, "So there is confusion about your appointment?" I replied, "I am not confused. You said you'd contact John, confirm our appointment, and call me back. You never called me back as promised. No one answered at your office, and we live about 1.5 hours away. Do we have an appointment tomorrow with John on Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm or not?" Maddening!
