I read way too many financial magazines, so I found out this is the kind of person you want to do your taxes. To put it simply, an EA is a federally authorized tax practitioner. If you are ever audited, the Department of Treasury allows EAs to represent. I saw Lupe for the first time last February when I lived in south Gilbert. I saw her again this March even though I now live in central Phoenix. Her tax services are worth driving that far for (seriously). I thought she did an amazing job last year, but I think she did an even better job this year. My fiance went with me this year to get his taxes done. She makes you feel like you are one of her good friends. She was chatting with us the entire time, even though she was stopping at every turn to make sure she got everything she needed. I bought a house last year and forgot my closing documents. She gave me her computer to get the paperwork I needed. After we were done, I asked her about how our taxes will change next year since we will be married and filling jointly. She took the time to do a quick estimate of what we will be paying in taxes next year. She didn't have to, but by doing some calculations, probably saved us a lot of money (by convincing us to contribute more money to our 401ks to keep us in a lower tax bracket). I will drive out to Queen Creek next year to have her do my taxes. I may not have seen other EAs or CPAs in Phoenix, but I don't think there is anyone as good.
