They take the time to explain what needs to be done, they're fair with pricing, and I've never felt pressured into unnecessary work. 3 times in the past 4 years I have visited H&J for tires, and each time I walk away paying less than I had expected. Also, they get the work done so fast. It was 20 minutes for 2 tires on a Monday afternoon visit. Unlike most tire places, Chris and Phil don't push you to buy a high end product. They ask about your vehicle and driving habits, then provide a list of options for you to choose from. I've overheard them on the phone, and they make an honest effort to understand customer needs and save the customer money. If something doesn't need to be fixed, that's what they will tell you. i've been going to them for many years... they've worked on all 3 of my trucks. i recently brought in my 2013 tacoma trd offroad, because i was riding on the original suspension, and it was shot, they did the lift on my 99 taco about 10 years ago... so i knew who to take it to. new upper and lower control arms, shocks on all 4 corners, ecgs clamshell bushing installed, new brakes, new leaf springs... all adding up to a nice 2in suspension lift. the prices were better than competitive, and the turnaround time was very quick for such an involved project. got it back,and immediately took it on a trip to shasta. miles of forest service roads at pretty good speed...and my truck was just floating over everything. long story short, these guys know what they're doing, and they not only know how to work on offroad vehicles, they're enthusiasts as well. if you like to play offroad, and have ideas about what you want out of suspension, these are the guys in marin that will make it happen. read more

Got an estimate that was about 15% lower than my usual place in San Rafael, went in a week later and Chris remembered the estimate, stuck to the price, and got the job done quickly. These guys are great! I have a 2006 Honda Element which I thought needed new brakes and tries and I was prepared to spend the money. My brakes were good but I needed tires and tire alignment. My car's tire had a slow leak and I was constantly getting dashboard notifications of low tire pressure. I filled the tire myself the first time because the car had been sitting in the garage for awhile. Recently, I took it to another known tire place up in Santa Rosa because I happen to be in the area and got a low tire pressure notification. They checked my tire and said there was no nail or valve issue and therefore no reason the tire should be losing air and sent me on my way. My car is not driven a lot so I didn't think much of it and and seemed fine until the low tire pressure light came back on. At this point, I decided to take it to a real professional who was referred with high regard, by a friend. I was told they would find the problem even if it was my dashboard indicator. I called late on a Friday and had an extensive conversation with Dennis. He went through a thorough, list of questions with me to help him understand and determine if it was an urgent matter. As it turns out it was not urgent, and his advice was perfect! He said fill the tire to 40 psi, drive it as much as I wanted over the weekend as planned, and bring the car in the following Thursday, which I did. I came in Thursday morning as agreed. I was greeted very professionally, and respectfully with a huge smile by Chris. I left the car with him so that I could go back to work and picked it up several hours later, giving them all the time they needed. Chris later called me and told me my car was ready. When I can in Dennis talked with me at length about a plan because they were unable to find anything wrong with the tire. Here is the part you need to know if you're looking for any kind of services related to your car and your tires. Dennis and Chris at H&J exemplify customer service and professionalism. They took the time to diagnose and thoroughly inspect to determine if there was a reason I was getting a check light notification for low tire pressure. Then Dennis went above and beyond and devised a future service plan. Dennis's plan was very detailed, including a recheck to determine if the tire pressure has changed and any new low tire pressure indicators occurred. I LOVED everything about my interaction with H&J, Dennis, and Chris. I have been a loyal customer elsewhere, buying tires at "NOT NAMED TIRE STORE" for all of my cars, and my kid's cars for years, and although treated fine, I have never received such care as I did at H&J. Sharing my review from Google because people need to know that if they are stressed and pressed for help they may want to bypass this place. I live in San Rafael so I wanted to do business there but I put in an online inquiry on Friday and they didn't bother answering it. Called Saturday and they said they'd check on the inquiry and get back to me. Called the following Monday to which "they'd call back in two minutes " With that runaround I called Tony's Tires in Greenbrae and they actually cared enough to not only get me two tires right away- they also alerted me that my front brakes needed to be replaced soon. Basically I felt H&J brushed me off because I am a woman and they felt my needs didn't equate to enough money for them to be bothered with me. As a business that's really bad karma to discriminate who you care about as far as their safety and purchasing needs. Everyone matters but not to H&J tires. I have been a customer of H&J for 15 years. My company, based in Marin, has been taking all our delivery vehicles to H&J for at least 20 years. In all that time, Dennis (the owner) and his son Chris have always done the best work on both my company vehicles and my own. Now when I say "the best", I mean it. I mean that I have never worked with a business that was better in handling their customers or the quality of their work. Dennis and Chris are so nice and such pros that I actually look forward to heading to their shop to get things done. I've actually gone out of my way to drop by and ask them a question about cars or tires- they're that knowledgeable and great to chat with. As a result of they're amazing work over the years, I've done my best to refer as much work as I can to them. Sadly, I moved far away from Marin recently, so I can no longer take my personal cars to H&J. But I still send my company vehicles to them, and I call long distance if I have any car/tire questions. With all the cheeseball tire shops in Marin to choose from, you owe it to yourself to go to H&J. They're not the cheapest option, but in this case, you get what you pay for. Today, my low tire pressure light came on twice: once being after I pumped air in. I was worried I had a nail in my car so I pulled into the first tire place I saw since I still had a 45 minute drive home ahead of me. This was Big Os. I asked if they could help and although they said yes, they left me hanging in a parking spot. I left thinking I'd have to drive all the way back to Santa Rosa before I got help. That is when I saw H&J Tire. I pulled in and told Javier about my tires and he quickly helped me. I appreciate it so much because even though low tire pressure might not be the biggest deal, he definitely relived my anxiety about possibly having a nail. He even made sure to wait for me to recalibrate my car before sending me off. All in all, support this business.
