WARNING! Be aware & don't get swindled like we did. This review is long to provide you with…read moreadequate info to avoid a similar unfortunate tire purchase. We purchased a set of Hankook Optimo H727 tires from Discount Tire in Fort Gratiot Jan 2013. They were excellent tires and still had a good amount of tread left but because of the AGE of the tire we opted to replace them. I called a couple places to see if they carried the same tires. I was told they were available & the price, but it would be a week or so to order them in. I then called Joe's Discount tire who quoted $40 cheaper & stated they were in stock. He said "come on down and lets get it done - we don't take appointments". That's Fine. We went over shortly after. Upon arriving I advised who we were & a few guys came right out, jacked up the van, removed the old tires & had the new ones installed. All in all it took about 1/2 hour or so. We paid but were given a fairly blank store receipt? I thought it odd but filled in the info myself(make, model odometer reading, purchase date, etc). They were quick and the tires were installed Aug.20/19'. We were excited about the 1000+ km trip to Gananoque we were about to go on. After driving for a couple months they didn't seem as nice as the previous set & the colour seemed off. We received a tire pressure reminder email from Discount. We went there to have the air checked. The attendant there said "You should think about replacing your tires, they're 7 years old." WTF!?!?! We just had them replaced a fwe months ago! When we got home I did some research & checked the dates myself, sure enough they were mfg in 2012. The SAME YEAR as the ones that we just had replaced! We went to Joe's to confront him about it. He said "That's how I save customers money" & "I always run old stock on my vehicles, my tires are like 19 years old & still good." I then asked about the warranty & he said "good luck getting a replacement from the manufacturer as you have to prove it's their fault anyway". That's not the point, we paid for what we thought were NEW tires not 7 year old tires. He wouldn't do anything about it! We'll be lucky if we get another 2 yrs out of these tires. I would've given 1/2 a star! What he's doing is not LEGALLY wrong but I believe his practices are immoral & unethical. At least INFORM the customer so they can make a decision that's best for them! We would've paid the extra $40 & waited a week to get NEW! I STRONGLY advise going somewhere else but, either way, make sure you check the tire date regardless of where you get them to avoid a similar situation! Here's some info I found on the web but do your own research too! EVEN UNUSED TIRES MAY BE DANGEROUS: Believe it or not, much like many other products, tires have an expiration date. Even if a tire has never been used, it might still be unsafe to put into service. This is due the nature of rubber itself. Rubber is used in tire construction because of its ability to flex, stretch, and conform to different surfaces. EXPIRED TIRES CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT: When the aged, weakened rubber is subjected to the forces of driving, stretching and twisting, expanding and compressing, heating and cooling, it can begin to crack, and eventually it can become separated from the other layers of the tire. Once this occurs, the tread is ripped away from the rest of the tire due to the force of rapid tire rotation, and the tire can rapidly disintegrate as the lower layers are shredded by the road surface. If the vehicle is moving at average or high speeds this can cause sudden loss of control, and most likely, a serious accident When purchasing new tires, take a moment to examine the tire sidewall. On the side of the tire should be a section that includes the letters "DOT", and shortly after, a 4-digit number which identifies when the tire was manufactured. * The first two digits show the week the tire was manufactured. * The last two digits show the year the tire was manufactured. For example, a number of 0316 would mean that the tire was made in the third week of January 2016.
